Virally-infected blood is drawn from a donor and transfused into the SCP. It experiences the regular symptoms of the viral disease at an accelerated pace until it dies. It remains dead for ~15-25 minutes, then comes back to life goes through the symptoms backwards until it reaches the beginning again.

If blood is drawn from the SCP during the reverse phase and transfused back into the donor, the donor will also be cured once the SCP is done healing. Notably, it works for incurable diseases such as HIV/AIDS or Ebola but also run-of-the-mill diseases incl. common colds and norovirus. Obviously this is very valuable but the foundation can't just hand him over to doctors.

The entire process is excruciating for the SCP and that the decay phase is accelerated further by inflicting physical pain, but presumably finding a cure and saving the lives of regular humans is more important. After 2 years of research one of the head researchers goes through a moral lapse and stabs a guard to steal his gun, shoots the other researcher, the SCP, then himself. Most of this is revealed after the fact through private casual communications between the two (ie. an app like Signal or something).

After "the incident", business continues as usual and the only change is that the corpse (which no longer works, so its "awaiting further research") gets stored in a tub and the security guard protocol is updated.

• This is my interpretation of the foundation: heartless by necessity but ultimately made up of moralistic and fallible human beings (sometimes)
• It's also shows the inevitable mundanity of the majority of the SCPs. For every famous anomaly there's bound to be hundreds or thousands of things that just happen to be anomalous enough to warrant being hidden from the public, even if it means shoving it into a storage locker somewhere
• I looked up some modern research on preservation techniques and viral infections so hopefully it seems scientifically sound

SCP-XX is to be kept within a padded standard humanoid containment cell. Due to repeated suicide attempts, SCP-XX is to be restrained with wrist and ankle cuffs when not in use.

SCP-XX is to be stored in a standard 200-litre HDPE drum filled with 70% ethanol. The drum should labeled and kept away from extreme temperature shifts.

Description: SCP-XX is the cadaver of a Caucasian male identified as Samuel Kingsley, born 1980-10-20. It was killed during the incident on 2003-09-18 (see %%%%%). Prior to its death, SCP-XX was capable of producing blood serum which had the effect of completely curing various viral infectious diseases when transfused. Notably, this included several diseases previously thought to be untreatable or incurable, such as hepatitis (all types), HIV/AIDS, and symptomatic rabies. A complete list of diseases which were tested is provided in %%%%%.

The production of curative blood serum was initiated by a transfusion of at least 150 mL of whole blood from an infected donor. SCP-XX would immediately enter a "decay phase" and begin to display symptoms normally expected of the disease. Symptoms would progress at an accelerated rate over the following period of approximately 26 hours, ultimately culminating in total cessation of cardiac and brain activity.

Following a "dead phase" lasting 15-25 minutes, brain activity, and subsequently cardiac activity would restart spontaneously. SCP-XX would then enter a "restoration phase" of equal duration to the decay phase wherein the previously observed symptoms would progress in reverse until it reached its state before the initial transfusion. During this phase, a normal sinus rhythm was observed via electrocardiogram (ECG).

During the restoration phase, if at least 80 mL of blood serum was transfused back into the donor, the donor would begin to also display reverse symptom progression at a rate similar to SCP-XX and would be completely cured of viral infection approximately 26 hours after receiving the blood serum.

The decay phase could be significantly shortened by administering high voltage electroshock treatment, reducing the decay period by up to 83% (appx. 22 hours). Electroshock treatment did not shorten the duration of either the dead or restoration phases, regardless of the phase in which it was administered.
