Item #: SCP-4592

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-4592 is to be stored in a standard storage locker in Site 76. No personnel under level 3 clearance are permitted to access the item without Site Director approval.

Description: SCP-4592 is a small sign 55.2 x 32.2 cm with a thickness of about 5 mm, made of a lightweight aluminum alloy with embossed lettering which reads: ‘Gone Fishin’. Analysis of a piece removed from the object has revealed a composition of 55% Aluminum, 25% Mercury, 13% Beryllium, with the remaining 2% being a mix of various other common metals. Three holes are present on the sign, one having been created when a sample was extracted, and the remaining two being present prior to Foundation acquisition. Through the pre-existing holes is a piece of twine approximately 75 cm in length at rest, but which varies depending on SCP-4592’s anomalous properties. This twine is tied via a standard double knot on both ends, but as of yet, has not been successfully untied or cut, displaying an abnormal resistance to standard shearing mechanisms, heat, and force.

SCP-4592 displays anomalous properties manifest when placed over a door handle, latch or similar mechanism on a flat openable surface. The length of twine has been shown to adapt to the opening mechanism upon which it is placed, such that it can fit comfortably with the metallic portion of the sign hanging approximately 5 cm below the point of attachment. If 50 cm of space is not provided below the mechanism, SCP-4592’s effects do not manifest.

Once placed, the surface which was once the ‘door’ is sealed via a viscous grey substance which emerges from the frame of the door; and becomes unopenable by any means other than the removal of SCP-4592 from the ‘handle’ on which it was placed. This process isolates the ‘room’ which the door provides passage to. Attempts to remove the grey substance have as of yet yielded no results, as the material quickly evaporates upon removal from its originating surface, and hastily gets replaced by more from its source.

The room determined by SCP-4592 seems to include the smallest possible volume which is enclosed within 4 walls. No known upper limit to the volume is known, as is evidenced in incident log 4592-A.
Attempts to enter the ‘room’ which SCP-4592 seals via other entrances are met with similar substances leaking from surrounding doors. Attempts at brute force entry have resulted in [REDACTED] resulting in 7 deaths and 62 serious injuries, as well as massive structural damage to the surrounding containment facility. Researchers are strongly discouraged from using explosives anywhere near active trials of SCP-4952.

Individuals within the room when SCP-4592 activates will find themselves in one of several different biomes, bringing with them only items on their person. Attempts at transportation of vehicles have been unsuccessful, however bags and items draped on the subject do not appear to get removed.

Testing has revealed the following environments with corresponding frequencies and observations:

Location Frequency Details
Unidentified body of water 62.3% Based on analysis of brightness, points of incursion are estimated to be approximately 300m below the surface. Fauna seen are majorly comprised of fish often seen in the Baltic sea, but many unidentified creatures are also present. A small percentage have been identified as fish which have gone extinct, ranging from periods 142 million to 45 years ago. Currently over 422 new or rediscovered species have been documented within, with samples of each accessible by researching staff in the Site 22 biological sample storage bay.
A “fleshy” cave 14.2% The walls present are observed to be comprised of pulsating tissue and stone, various ‘vessels’ containing sanguine fluids are common. Samples indicate a human source for all discovered viscera, though genetic identification has had no success identifying a singular individual as its origin. Severing any of them causes visible reaction from the surface it is embedded within. Mucous-like substance often coats the ground, which has been described as ‘unsettling’ to step in. Large ‘lakes’ of mucous are common. Exploration of these bodies of liquid yield creatures with fish-like qualities comprised of human flesh and bone tissue. Sampling indicates high frequency of disease in these ‘fish’, interaction is highly discouraged at risk of contracting illness. Various figures have been observed in the distance, classified as SCP-4592-B. These figures differ greatly between instances, but generally assume a disfigured humanoid appearance. Appendages are often fused to nearby surfaces, severely limiting their range of motion. Entities are universally passive, and removal of samples yields minimal response aside from standard reflexes expected of tissue removal.
A deciduous forest 10.5% The vast majority of trees are identified as poplar, maple, and oak have been identified, though birch, fir and various others have also been seen. The forest has numerous streams, lakes and ponds each of which are populated with expected aquatic life forms endemic to standard North American deciduous forest climates. No non-aquatic, non-plant life has been recorded, resulting in a exceedingly sterile environment. Fish observed seem to derive sustenance directly from aquatic organisms, and tend to avoid objects which fall into their bodies of water.
An office building lobby 9.1% The environment is generally described as ‘clean’ with all windows and surfaces possessing a sheen akin that of a recently washed or polished surface. The nearest walls while seemingly near, have been shown to be located more than 10 km from the point of incursion. A ceiling either doesn’t exist or extends to a height which cannot be seen. As such, weather patterns are often noted in the sky between the walls, including clouds, wind, and on one occasion a twister. At regular intervals the tiling on the floor gives way to a perfectly circular pit filled with water, which extends to unknown depths. No entities have been identified within to date, and exploring these vertical shafts of water has yielded no substantial discoveries.
A snowy landscape 3.7% cell-content
A living room styled similar to Victorian residences of the 19th century 0.2% See Exploration Log 4592-104 for more details.

Individuals which expire within the room while SCP-4592 is active are no longer present on removal of the item from the door. Any tracking devices cease functionality as soon as expiration occurs. If the object is removed from the 'handle', the individual within will reappear in the room, along with anything they may have in their possession.
