Special Containment Procedures: Uncontainable¹

SCP-XXXX can only be contained within a spherical chamber of diameter 243 centimetres composed of three layers of [Redacted] and trinalatite-kalseri² alloys with a polycarbonate and titanium mech between each layer.

Non-human organisms³ are not to be allowed within 500 meters of the containment chamber. All humans within 500 metres of the chamber must be certified as fit to do so by a psychological examination.

Any personnel assigned to guard, work around or conduct experiments on SCP-XXXX must receive psychological examinations every three days. If said personnel fail to pass said examinations, they are to be reassigned away from SCP-XXXX.

If any personnel within the 500 metre exclusion zone exhibits any uncharacteristic behaviour, they are to be administered amnestics according to the assessment of Dr. Kalseri and two other qualified psychologists.

If any personnel try to release SCP-XXXX from its containment chamber, suffers a psychological breakdown or [Redacted], they are to be taken down by Theta-Gamma tranquiliser darts and administered Class-A amnestics. If tranquilisers prove ineffective, security personnel are authorised to use lethal means to maintain the integrity of the containment chamber.

Description: SCP-XXXX, also known as 'Achlys' is a gaseous organism composed of 43% carbon dioxide, 19% methane, 14% hydrogen, 12% chlorine and 12% [Redacted]⁴ that is invisible to the naked eye in normal conditions.

SCP-XXXX was first noticed by SCP operatives in 20## the Eastern Mediterranean off the coast of Crete, south of the [Redacted] site and due east of [Redacted] town. Both areas were active during the latter days of the Minoan Civilisation. Both these sites had fallen into ruin and were forgotten by A.C.E. 845.

SCP-XXXX possesses telepathic and clairvoyant abilities enabling it to communicate and interact with humans, abilities through which its name, age and other information have been revealed through interviews I-1 and I-2 and Addenda A-1 and A-2.

SCP-XXXX has been declared to be a cognitohazard. Its abilities include but are not limited to, suggestive thoughts, changes in character traits, psychotic outbursts, and the amplification of psychological illnesses like depression.

Two experiments, E-1 and E-2 were conducted to investigate what other abilities SCP-XXXX has.

SCP-XXXX consumes gases at the exact ratio of its composition, namely, 43% carbon dioxide, 19% methane, 14% hydrogen, 12% chlorine and the remaining 12% are substituted with oxygen, as [Redacted] cannot be manufactured or harvested by any known means. The properties of [Redacted] are unknown.

Conclusions

Interviews, experiments and collected information by researches has revealed the hazardous nature of SCP-XXXX as an entity capable of manipulating and subverting human and non-human organisms.

1a) Non-human organisms immediately demonstrated violent breakdowns similar to the effect of rabies once entered within a 500 metre radius.

1b) Non-human organisms quickly recovered once taken out of said radius.

2) Humans exhibited increasingly aggravated psychological side-effects from psychological ailments and diseases once entering within 500 metres to SCP-XXXX, with effects worsening with increased proximity and over time.

3a) Humans remain adversely impacted up to three months after leaving the 500 metre area.

3b) Humans having experienced a psychological breakdown, violent or otherwise, have not shown signs of recovery even after the administration of Class-A Amnestics.

4) Following experiment E-2, by direct order from [Redacted] no further interaction is to be done with SCP-XXXX unless by clearance from the 05 Council. No on is to enter within 550 metres of SCP-XXXX unless authorised by said council. Guards stationed at this point are authorised to use any means to prevent entry into said area.

5) Professor Jones, Keyes and [Redacted] have advised reclassification of SCP-XXXX to Keter Class, and the relocation of SCP-XXXX to site [Redacted] for security reasons due to persistent activities by an unknown organisation to access SCP-XXXX to harvest [Redacted].

Extracts from the diary of Dr. Kalseri dated 12/3/#### to 1/12/####.

12/3/####

Agents Hillard and Jannika were on leave in Crete when they were contacted by Agent [Redacted], now deceased, about an incident in their area involving multiple civilian casualties. Agent Hillard who was trialling an experimental optical device in lieu of his right eye was able to see a gas in the air over the area, being particularly dense over the a rampaging man armed with a firearm.

They requested the intervention of Taskforce-S which was then operating in Turkey to intervene. As of this evening, the area has been isolated and the gas has remained localised.

Anomalous gaseous entity, now designated 'SCP-XXXX', has been determined to be a sentient organism following Agent [Redacted] being sent to investigate the area. After entering within half a kilometre of the area, his innate paranoia seems to have increased 10 fold, and he was recovered by a robotic rescue drone.

Agent [Redacted] had been unconscious upon recovery. En route to receive medical aid he regained consciousness. He was considerably distressed and near manic. He insisted the gaseous anomaly was sentient, and that it called itself 'Achlys'. He died twelve minutes after regaining consciousness. Causes unknown.

8/10/####

Achlys, or SCP-XXXX, was trapped within narrow the cave system by a A.C.V.D.⁵ which sucked it into the cave system. SCP-XXXX could not be contained within the device, but the suction of said device kept it within an inner cave chamber.

Taskforce-S has established a cordon disguised as a safety measure due to a methane deposit that had been leaking over the area leading to the delirium that caused the incident on 12/3/####.

I have been instructed to investigate the entity. I am due to leave for the site 10/10/####.

14/10/####

No known chamber or container can hold SCP-XXXX within. I have requested 05 command to grant me access to project [Redacted] materials to attempt to contain SCP-XXXX.

An individual was noted observing our cordon by a drone from a boat five nautical miles from the shore. The boat sped away before we managed to intercept it.

31/10/####

I have had nothing to report for the last few days. the boat had returned occasionally but we never managed to intercepted it.

Today 05 command has granted me permission to access the requested materials.

28/11/####

I have managed to construct a containment device for SCP-XXXX out of materials which I cannot write here for safety reasons.

We are due to ship out the container via the containership Explorer in two days.

30/11/####

Unknown assailants attacked our position killing many operatives. reinforcements arrived in time to relieve our positions.

The attackers belonged to an unknown organisation, none of the survivors cooperated, each having a cyanide capsule. They were well-armed and trained but outnumbered and trapped at the mouth of the cave by our reinforcements and us within the cave. They had equipment designed to suck in an contain gaseous masses twice that of SCP-XXXX.

The Explorer arrived slightly early. It had an escort by SCP destroyers Runner-1 and Runner-8.

Agents Hillard and Jannika manually moved SCP-XXXX. While handling the object, Jannika, recovering from depression, experienced a regression. She was sedated and taken away.

Agent Hillard had entered a trance-like state but recovered soon after. He confirmed what Agent [Redacted] had said. He also noted that it was the [Redacted] gas that [Redacted]. This gas is what the attackers looked to get.
