Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be kept within a 7 metre x 12 metre containment cell on floor 27 of Site-88. Containment cell is to be lined with four feet of concrete and two armed personnel are to be stationed outside of the cell at all times. SCP-XXXX must not be interacted with outside of testing conditions, and as of now Dr. █████ Yusuf is to be distanced from the subject at all times, until requested by Site Administration.
SCP-XXXX must not be given knowledge to any concurrent conflicts happening around the world. Any potential articles, books or even staff mentioning conflicts that have not concluded are to be removed from the site immediately. Any staff caught talking about conflicts near SCP-XXXX's vicinity are to be detained immediately, and containment teams are to negotiate and convince the subject that said conflict's existence is a lie. Staff that are seen directly telling SCP-XXXX about ongoing wars, conflicts or military operations are to be terminated immediately [Dr. Yusuf being an exception as of now]. This is designated as Procedure-XXXX.57, and is to act as a direct prevention for SCP-XXXX to manifest elsewhere. Request for a new cell has been made as of ██████, however it is yet to be accepted. Request was made in order to stop SCP-XXXX's involvement within potential containment breaches.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a seemingly translucent humanoid being, standing 203 centimetres in height on most occasions; however, this can be subject to change and whether or not the listed height is its natural status remains unanswered. Subject appears to weigh approximately 52.6kg, regardless of its size, and appears to be missing patches of fibrous connective tissue across its torso. SCP-XXXX's skin is pale and is described to be textured as like tracing paper. The subject is sapient, sentient and capable of speech in over 17 separate languages, some of which are no longer in use by modern societies. Subject seems to prefer speaking to individuals who have suffered from unbalanced conflict, where they were defeated or wounded because of it. Subject is capable of speech with non-combatants as well, but generally holds a higher sense of moral judgement and speaks down to them. This however has been recently neglected [see INTERVIEW XXXX-4]. Currently, the subject shares no physical nor mental understanding of ageing nor does it show signs of such.
SCP-XXXX has an affinity for its own actions and existence, previously claiming its righteousness as a source of dutiful greatness in the field of combat. Extensive questioning into its past has recently changed its behaviour and previously formal personality [see INTERVIEW XXXX.3]. However, SCP-XXXX almost always refuses to talk to those who have not experienced conventional or unconventional military combat, or fallen under the threat of it directly. Because of this, the first two attempts of interviews were met with a lack of response.
Subject is recorded to be a intervening third-party during worldwide conflicts at unknown given times. The common trend of its involvement comes from certain forces being considered doomed, outnumbered, outgunned and outmatched beyond comprehension. In the time of need, SCP-XXXX arrives in a manifestation dependent on the target it seeks to assist. This is predicted to be based upon personality, beliefs, mindsets and cultural significance. Its extent of assistance depends on how its targets require assistance. This can vary from physical involvement, directly joining the conflict as such, or by inspiring its collaborative force with common morale-boosting techniques: musical parades, colour bearers and even strategic officers.
Due to the nature of its ethereal-like manifestations, SCP-XXXX can alter its appearance in countless ways, ranging from developing natural features (like hair, facial structures and genitalia) to unnatural or seemingly artificial additions (clothing, tools and additional instances of itself). Where the subject gains access to such changes and the limits of said alterations remains unknown and thus requires more testing. Instances of SCP-XXXX that appear as separate manifestations are designated as SCP-XXXX-2, however they cannot be considered sentient and are dependent on the subject for their actions.
SCP-XXXX was first brought to the Foundation's attention in █████████, Iraq in 2007 when Foundation Staff found reports of a celestial being directly attacking United States soldiers on two recent instances. Upon its discovery, the subject was encountered only once and its containment had failed to be achieved. Pursuit across the Middle-East lacked success, however several observations of the subject were made on three separate skirmishes. The subject's position was lost until 2015, where it was discovered to be in the hands of a Serpent's Hand cell, located in ████, ███████ Ireland. Foundation task-forces were met with a four day siege in attempt to recover and contain SCP-XXXX and eventually forced the subject to rush to their aid, allowing for them to capture and escort the subject out of the area to Site-88, where it is currently held.
Interviewed: SCP-XXXX
Interviewer: Dr. Rogers
Foreword: Previous interview was deemed unsuccessful, where subject would only grunt. This formal interview was conducted by the Lead Researcher assigned to subject's testing. Interview happened in an enclosed interrogation room, where three researches watched behind one-way blackened glass. One armed personnel was also posted within the room, though was briefed to not make contact with the subject by any means.
<Begin Log>
Dr. Rogers: Hello there. My name is Dr. Rogers, I am here to ask you a few questions, if you would be so kind as to answer them?
SCP-XXXX: [Muttering, transcribed from Rogers after failing to be picked up on microphone] I ask only to speak to someone who knows what it is like.
Dr. Rogers: Aha! Progress, see. I knew we'd get a word or two out of you. Now, please could you repeat yourself once more?
SCP-XXXX: [Repeats previous statement, over and over. Appears to slur into incomprehensible jargon for three minutes]
Dr. Rogers: [Talking to observing staff] Do I have to sit through this? It's just repeating itself. I don't want to miss lunch…
<End Log>
Closing Statement: Whilst absolutely no knowledgeable progress was made, observable steps into the right direction were taken as subject spoke its first set of words towards a foundation staff member. Even though it dismissed Dr. Rogers' attempts of an interview, On-Site staff recommended using a different interviewer further on.
Interviewed: SCP-XXXX
Interviewer: Dr. Yusuf
Foreword: Fourteen hours before Interview XXXX.3 was recorded, subject spoke to Dr. Yusuf directly whilst passing by its containment cell. Dr. Yusuf was requested to partake in upcoming SCP-XXXX tests until further notice. Throughout the interview, Dr. Yusuf was spoken to through an earpiece, guiding him on what questions to ask and what inquiries to make.
<Begin Log>
Dr. Yusuf: Uhm, hello. My name is Dr. Yusuf. [Chatter in earpiece causes pause for a second, presumably questions to ask subject] You said that you wanted to speak to me, correct? Why am I personally someone you want to speak to?
SCP-XXXX: You have the experience I seek to relinquish; you're but a man who cried out and plead for someone to save you from a certain demise. If I recall, it was at [DATA EXPUNGED]. Am I wrong?
Dr. Yusuf: [Heard clearing throat and breathing, disturbed by potential mentioning of his past] Y-yes…you're quite right. But why does that interest you? Or…rather, what is it about my case that makes you so intrigued?
SCP-XXXX: The interests of those in need is my righteous purpose, Doctor. I was bred from the fields of combat, where those who sought survival when their fates were sealed required my blessing.
Dr. Yusuf: So you see yourself as a sort of…Guardian Angel? My colleagues have said you described yourself as an Angel, correct? What sense of morality brings about this expression?
SCP-XXXX: You ask plenty of questions, don't you? Is it because you are thankful for someone of my stature to be around in times of need? My decisions are brought simply about who is needed. For the greater good, one must have balance in the field of battle. I am that balance.
Dr. Yusuf: [Muttering over earpiece again] Uhm…Can you please describe how long this has been going on for?
SCP-XXXX: For as long as the battles have tolled between man and man again. The fields of Agincourt, the seas of the pacific, the greatest retreat from Mons, all have reaped my benefits, Doctor. I brought only the best outcome and balance, and to deny it would be rather ignorant.
Dr. Yusuf: That's…interesting. Could you please-
For the next five minutes, subject begins to start rambling. Edits made in the recording for brevity, as most of it seems incomprehensible; begins repeats of previous statements and boasting about itself.
<End Log>
Closing Statement: Communication with subject proved to be cryptic, as always, and it held some sort of moral high ground. Disclosures between Dr. Rogers and collaborative staff has dictated that a few set of moral questions will be presented towards subject in order to fully understand their motive. Dr. Yusuf has been transferred as a temporary asset until further notice.
Addendum-1: Following Interview XXXX.3, whilst little information was actually obtained Dr. Yusuf managed to unearth leads into its past and why it performs such interventions in conflict. Two tests were conducted before Interview XXXX.4 in an attempt to learn more about its manifestations. Whilst the tests were being administered, Dr. Yusuf was temporarily assigned a psychiatrist, as well as morning therapy, after showing signs of PTSD and an influx of paranoia during his daily life.
Subject: SCP-XXXX
Premise: During previous interviews, the subject stated about bringing balance to conflict. Subject was placed in a room with several laid out scenarios before them, showing different military encounters throughout history where one faction was heavily disadvantaged. Camera was used for monitoring whilst two armed personnel stood inside at the door. Subject was instructed to highlight scenarios it deemed to be worth intervening within.
Results: Subject spent fourteen minutes sat, ignoring the scenarios written out in front of them. After several minutes of trying to remind the subject to take part in the test, it finally spoke, uttering disinterest in the scenario because no lives were at risk. Subject did remark, however, that two of the eight scenarios presented to it were familiar, and that perhaps they were works of their own.
Doctor's Statement: A waste of time. Spent thirty minutes watching it wandering around the room and ignoring the test, despite redirection. With Dr. Yusuf still within therapy, it was almost impossible to get any direct responses our of SCP-XXXX. Damn thing started to laugh at one point too, as if having a nostalgic trip. Don't like it when subjects do that. It could be nothing more than that though, just some sort of memory. We threw in the Great Retreat at Mons from the First World War, considering it mentioned it, and it just smiled. The only thing we got was that I missed lunch, again! - Dr. Rogers
Subject: SCP-XXXX
Premise: Subject was introduced to the exact same test as before, with a selection of eight other scenarios, some set in the modern era instead. Dr. Yusuf was preemptively pulled out of psychological therapy to undertake this test, despite having a few disagreements over it.
Results: Dr. Yusuf was hesitant to talk to SCP-XXXX for roughly four minutes. Eventually, conversation was initiated but no direct participation within the test was made. Subject ignored the scenarios yet again, stating that they held no real bearing on their interest. Halfway through the test, Dr. Yusuf seemed to be provoked by yet another mentioning of [DATA EXPUNGED] and went into a miniature frenzy, bursting into tears and crying to himself, pleading to the security inside to let him out. Sequentially, his request was granted and he was returned to his therapist.
Doctor's Statement: So glad I took my panini in there with me. If I didn't expect it to take 40 odd minutes for the test to end I would've missed lunch yet again. Now we have Dr. Yusuf blubbering like a child in another room. At this point I'm considering looking for another candidate to interact with the subject. - Dr. Rogers
Incident XXXX-1: █████, August ██ 2018, a subsequent containment breach allowed SCP-XXXX to manifest and intervene in conflict, being the first time it happened since its containment. The breach itself was minor, however it escalated once SCP-XXXX manifested against containment teams, working alongside the outmatched breach. Targets were both eventually brought back into containment within an hour, as MTF reduced their active force count in order to direct SCP-XXXX elsewhere. Containment was secured of both, and thus Procedure-XXXX.57 was established.
Dr. Yusuf's Condition
Diagnosis: Dr. █████ Yusuf has been referred to long-term psychological investigation for the next two years following Incident XXXX-1. Diagnosis is listed as Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and Sleep Paranoia, where Dr. Yusuf tends to have an influx of flashbacks to [DATA EXPUNGED]. Looking into the file of [DATA EXPUNGED] has shown that Dr. Yusuf was in fact victim to SCP-XXXX's intervention in 2007, Iraq. Dr. Yusuf's involvement with the instance is unknown, however it stands clear that his fear has grown exponentially. Discussions about whether or not he is discharged from SCP-XXXX's containment are undergoing, however Dr. Rogers now believes that he is a valuable asset to communicating with the subject.
Addendum-2: Dr. Yusuf spent two weeks preparing an interview [see Interview XXXX.4] of his own to SCP-XXXX and constantly requested to interact with the subject. Eventually, permission was granted and Dr. Yusuf went under a one-day psychotherapist briefing to ensure said interview remained proper, formal and within protocol.
Interviewed: SCP-XXXX
Interviewer: Dr. Yusuf
Foreword: Dr. Yusuf was determined on setting up his interview. He'd prepared a set of moral questions. Subject was kept in the room with two armed personnel again, and was monitored through a one-way glass observation room. Security teams were advised to keep a close eye on Dr. Yusuf in the case of aggression, threatening the well-being of SCP-XXXX or potentially compromising/inciting a containment breach.
<Begin Log>
Dr. Yusuf: No need for introductions. You know already who I am. Wo-
SCP-XXXX: [Interrupting] Doctor Yusuf, if I am correct? We met a while back in this very room.
Dr. Yusuf coughs and angrily mutters to himself, trying to maintain dominance throughout the interview.
Dr. Yusuf: Let me ask my questions, please! [Takes a few seconds to clear throat] Please, would you inform me on your knowledge of paradoxes?
SCP-XXXX: A contradiction of one thing over another? Vague, I know but-
Dr. Yusuf: I want to question the legitimacy of your actions. You claim to be a righteous balance in war and that you provide the best outcome, but I would rather incite that you do anything but that! Are you or are you not capable of realising the consequences of your intervention?
SCP-XXXX: I…don't quite understand what you mean, Doctor. I am known to balance the field of war when my time is announced. There is no qualm about it.
Dr. Yusuf: Let me return to paradoxes. Do you see a trend in your interventions? Every single time you've found your way into combat, those you side with are victorious, every time. Agincourt to Mons, Somalia to Iraq; don't you see a problem there?
SCP-XXXX: Your questioning seems irrelevant, Doctor. I am indefinitely the one to bring balance to-
Dr. Yusuf: Your ethos is based upon helping the doomed, those who are guaranteed a failure in their combat prowess. Yet despite this, whenever you are involved you have constantly shed that same damnation upon the opposing force. Doesn't that seem odd?
Silence continues for another twenty seconds, and Dr. Yusuf ignores the advice given by the observation staff reminding him to remain calm and collected.
Dr. Yusuf: The paradox here is that your involvement creates the imbalance. You guarantee lives to be saved at the expense of those who originally held the upper-hand. But that would mean you would need to side with the opposition, right? But you can't, because then the original side you were with is now guaranteed death. And yet you've proudly announced that you create a balance where conflict fails to provide it!
SCP-XXXX: [Tone changes to that of frustration and confusion] D-Doctor, that is completely false. You may be a survivor of battle but I assure you that you know nothing abou-
Dr. Yusuf slams his hand on the table and the security personnel are advised to stand closer to him, if restraint was necessary.
Dr. Yusuf: Don't you understand, you absolute [REDACTED], you ruined everything I had, the peace in my mind with your righteous [REDACTED] when you killed everyone I had around me! All of those I had to love were damned by your supposed godly narcissism! [Security approach Dr. Yusuf and begin restraining his arms and preparing to escort him out]. Let's try another question, do you even think about the consequences of your actions? You say you bring the best outcome and yet here we are, where the wicked prevail and the innocent get murdered because you felt it was a little unfair!
Muffled dialogue for ten seconds, a struggle breaks out between Dr. Yusuf and the security personnel, who are now preparing to detain him.
SCP-XXXX: [Muttering] An…imbalance…That can't be true, I am…the one who…
Dr. Yusuf: [Shouting from afar] You ignorant and arrogant narcissist! You ruin lives and paint yourself as a hero.
Dr. Yusuf is escorted out of the premises and moved into temporary detainment, whilst this occurs Dr. Rogers enters the room and tries to deter the situation.
Dr. Rogers: Excuse us, for I apologise for this aggression. Would you like to continue this interview now or perhaps another time?
SCP-XXXX: [Silence for a few seconds] I…would like to return…to a place I can dwell for a while. It would seem that…maybe…maybe I need to go over some things.
Dr. Rogers: That is understandable. We'll continue this another time, and Dr. Yusuf will not be involved.
<End Log>
Closing Statement: Whilst the interview between Dr. Yusuf and SCP-XXXX was rather short-lived due to the former's outburst, a drastic change has been seen in SCP-XXXX's behaviour. Previously, the subject held an almost zealous type of duty, feeling like it was responsible for only the good in the world. Dr. Yusuf's obsession seems to have unearthed reminders that the subject has incidentally assisted malicious groups, such as Al Qaeda, as well as Foundation Groups of Interest like the Serpent's Hand, which in turn was how we contained the instance. Much is still unknown about the nature of the subject, how it does what it does and why it continues to. As long as we keep it contained, we should be able to extract enough information to dictate how sentient it is. - Dr. Rogers
Addendum-3: As of recent events, SCP-XXXX has entered a docile state and seems to be uninterested in conversation. Sometimes, it broods to itself about its past. Dr. Rogers predicts that the decades, even potentially centuries, of involving itself as some mystical god-like saviour in battle has driven it to narcissism, in which its isolated behaviour means its only contact with other people comes in the form of battlefield appraisal. Subject is to have testing placed on standby for the coming weeks until SCP-XXXX returns to a more cooperative state. As for Dr. Yusuf, whilst his critical involvement in SCP-XXXX's dialogue has been apparent, knowledge on those SCP-XXXX was willing to cooperate with will likely result in a new candidate. D-Class personnel of such background has been requested for such future tests. However, since Dr. Yusuf listed more places around the world still experiencing conflict, two more manifestations of SCP-XXXX have been recorded before the subject returned to containment willingly.
