Item #: SCP-5881

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-5881 is to be traversed at least once daily, with appropriate record keeping of any notable changes regarding disposition towards SCP-5881. See Addendum SCP-5881-A for further details. Any noted changes in disposition are to be reported to the nearest site director immediately. It is currently assumed that SCP-5881 has cognitohazardous effects; however due to it's passive and otherwise harmless nature, civilians are not to be prevented from accessing the area, and no active attempts are to be made to combat the spread of hatered towards SCP-5881.

Description: SCP-5881 is a field spanning roughly 1.35 acres in the Irkutsk Oblast, Russia. The field has the standard appearance of any average field; however, once a person becomes aware of it's existence, or otherwise is approaches within 10 meters of SCP-5881, they immediately show signs of hatred and despise towards SCP-5881. SCP-5881 was discovered in 18██ after stories began to arise regarding disgust towards an unspecified field in the Russian Empire. It was noted upon by foundation researchers at the time, but aside from shared momentary disdain for the field following reports of it, not further action was taken. In 19██ the British Army gained permission from the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics to commence bombing runs on SCP-5881, due to the apparent disruption of sleep of over 40% of Britains upper class civilians from hatred for SCP-5881. A total of 8 bombings took place over a 3 year span, ending in 19██ following the realization that the bombings only made the field larger and greater in volume. SCP-5881 was finally granted it's designation in 20██ following rediscovery of the priorly written foundation notes.

Additionally, SCP-5881 has been observed to have effects on animal psychology as well as human psychology, with animal packs frequently abandoning others of their pack who tread on the field. Local humans have also integrated SCP-5881 into customs, as children who play on the field are shunned, beaten with sticks, sent to ███████ for 8-months, where they are scalded and tied to posts and stoned. Such punishments have no recorded instances of fatality, and the foundation sees no reason to stop the tradition, due to its resulting effects of discouraging amicability towards the field. Adults do not suffer punishment when on the field, as such trespassing is presumed accidental; however for the next 34 days sentiment towards an individual who stood on SCP-5881 will be generally negative and spiteful.

Addendum-5881-A: On routine traversing, report of any amicable or neutral feelings towards SCP-5881 are to be recorded, and the foundation personnel who preformed the routine inspection is to be psychologically evaluated. Following a clear psychology report, investigation will commence on disposition towards SCP-5881. Should substantial numbers of foundation personnel and locals show no further sign of hatred or resentment towards SCP-5881, SCP-5881 is to be reclassified as neutralized, but is to still be observed monthly for any new disposition changes. Should any other dispositions result from knowledge or contact with SCP-5881, such as euphoria, depression, apathy, etc. SCP-5881 is to be reclassified as safe if it is not already, and further investigation is to be conducted.
