Mr Worry

Draft for possible SCP-4000

SCP-4000
Item #: SCP-4000 and SCP-4000-1.

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-4000 is to be kept securely locked in a box at a temperature no higher than one hundred and seventy five [175 degrees] Centigrade. No other containment measures are necessary.

Description: SCP-4000 is, to all appearances and as far as testing can ascertain, a small wooden box with a lid that can be fastened with an attached silver-coloured metal clasp. The box appears to be hand-painted, featuring a coloured image of a man who can be identified as a wizard by the robes and pointed hat that he is depicted wearing. The paint appears to be faded by sunlight and handling.
There is always a small lump (around four [4] grams) of a brown substance in the box, which is identified as SCP-4000-1. When SCP-4000-1 is removed from SCP-4000, a new lump of the substance can be instantly found to have appeared in the box. It is not known where the substance comes from, how it is produced or how SCP-4000 “knows” to produce more of the substance when it has been emptied. Each lump of the substance appears to be similar in appearance and identical in composition: all lumps are referred to collectively as SCP-4000-1.
SCP-4000-1, according to all testing so far, is a combination of vegetable oils and cannabis: what is commonly known as “hashish” or “hash” to users of the drug.
When smoked, vapourised or ingested, SCP-4000-1 produces the same effects commonly associated with the use of hashish. It also produces an additional, seemingly-randomly decided effect on the user. Experimentation on D-Class participants has shown that all the effects produced are identical to items found on a number of pages of the Charts and Tables section of the 1st Edition Dungeon Master’s Guide written by E Gary Gygax and published in 1979 by TSR Limited. The effects have included items from the Parasitic Infestations Table (page fourteen [14]), Wind Direction and Force (page fifty-four [54]) and the table showing Results of Psionic Blast Attack on Non-Psionic Creature (page seventy-eight [78]). It is not conclusively known if any other tables or charts from this book are sources of other possible effects: further testing on D-class subjects will be necessary to determine if this is the case.

SCP-4000 and SCP-4000-1 were found in a previously-overlooked storage cupboard in student accommodation slated for demolition at * in 1991. The discoverer opened SCP-4000 and smoked a small quantity (0.5 g) of SCP-4000-1 in a hand-rolled cigarette. The discoverer found himself blown by a mysterious wind in a Northern direction with what he described as a strong gale. This was observed by university staff. Police were called and the discoverer, SCP-4000 and SCP-4000-1 were taken to the nearby ** Police Station. Interviews with the discoverer led to mental health consultations, which in turn led to the involvement of the Foundation. All involved in the events following the discovery of SCP-4000 and SCP-4000-1 were given amnesia-inducing medication, monitored and found not to have related any events concerning SCO-4000 and SCP-4000-1 to others. Monitoring of affected individuals ceased after 2001.
Since then, SCP-4000 and SCP-4000-1 have been kept in secure storage at Foundation Facility *** where they have been undergoing thorough testing on non-human and human subjects. Multiple uses of SCP-4000-1 by the same user have been shown to produce varied effects.

Addendum:
Experimentation log excerpts

12/9/1991: Subject A smokes half a gram (0.5 g) of SCP-4000-1 without other substances. The subject becomes temporarily unable to complete elementary/primary school mathematics and spelling tests.
19/9/1991: Subject B smokes half a gram (0.5 g) of SCP-4000-1 combined with tobacco. The subject’s body temperature immediately drops to 0 degrees Centigrade. Ice crystals are observed to form on the subject. The subject dies immediately and cannot later be revived.
23/9/1991: Subject A eats three-quarters of a gram (0.75 g) of SCP-4000-1 in a “brownie” style cake. No effects were observed until the subject caught sight of a picture of the Moon, at which point he began to howl, froth at the mouth and attempt to attack the Foundation research scientists. After recovering from being subdued by Foundation security staff, Subject A described the effects of ingesting SCP-4000-1 as being “a moment of madness”.
