Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be housed in a reinforced steel case within a multi-layer room. The object is to be guarded against any attempts to read it with any necessary force. Site staff were all exclusively selected as they are unaffected by the memetic effects due to their religious standing. Under No circumstance are any staff of affected religion be stationed at Site-██ to avoid attempts to read the object.
Description: Object housed at Site-██ by request of Dr. ████. Object is a leather bound book titled "Books of Enoch" in reference to the great- grandfather of Noah, the biblical character who built the Ark for the Great Flood. Upon viewing the object's contents, it is an exact copy of all surviving works of the character named Enoch, along with works which have yet to be discovered possibly due to their destruction over time.
When read, nothing anomalous occurs until the subject stops reading without finishing the section they are in. At such time, the subject will begin to transmutate into the last entity the subject read about, losing all memory of their previous self and attacking all humans within a four (4) km radius. If the subject never read about any of the entities in the object, then the transmutation will be random but always from the unfinished section.
Subjects who undergo a transmutation will gain anomalous abilities according to what they become. After a transmutation, the subject becomes an instance of SCP-XXXX-2 and will continue to attack humans within it's radius, and will attempt to spread the memetic effect as if preaching the book"s power until dispatched via any means mentioned for the entity within the Christian and Jewish religions.
The object is a memetic hazard which draws in the following groups of people in a fifteen (15) km radius, causing an insatiable urge to read the object, the effect subsides upon opening the cover:
- Christians
- Jews
The O-5 council has ordered that without express permission, no testing is to be done. This is to prevent a possible LK or XK class religious scenario.
Addendum: Transmutations have yet to be seen as the subject spontaneously combusts and remains engulfed in flames until the transmutation is complete. All recorded attempts to put out the fire yield no results. The fire does not affect any surroundings, but thermal readings indicate temperatures equivalent to the earth's core, though this is not apparent until physical contact is made with the flames.
Subjects will almost always stop reading once they reach sections about demons and other religious entities. This is possibly due to a memetic urge to stop, though this is only a theory as there is yet no way to properly or safely test this.
Recorded transmutations, their abilities, and methods of inhibiting or dispatching them are listed below:
- Demon - skin which can cut through most materials due to high temperatures, emission of flames which burn indefinitely unless put out manually, possession of surrounding humans, in some instances, wings are grown during transmutation granting flight - Holy water causes third degree burns to manifest; members of the Vatican can often times subdue them via reciting scripture; it is possible to dispatch these instances of XXXX-02 via bullets made of religiously holy metals, or by "burning" it to death via large amounts of holy water; it can be trapped within a perimeter of salt, though some instances can escape if they are strong enough.
- Giant - average height of 10-13 meters; enhanced strength; enhanced endurance; skin becomes more dense and harder to penetrate - the most effective way to dispatch an instance like this is by blood loss or lethal trauma, mainly with an anti-tank rifle or a thermal targeted missile if it is a stronger instance.
