Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Keter

Special Containment Procedures: Audio surveillance in the areas where instances of SCP-1 has been detected is to be carried out at all times, as well as the moniterization of phones, android devices and any available medium that can transmit sound. Should an instance of SCP-1 be detected, a Mobile Task Force of no more than 3 members will be dispatched to prevent the affected individuals from spreading it. Upon detention, individuals must be questioned and interrogated about SCP. Instances of SCP-1 are to be recorded in separate music sheets of standart format, then sent to [DATA EXPUNGED] for further analysis. Once the instances of SCP and their carriers have been seized, Class-A amnestetics must be administered to everyone involved in the operation, including the personnel who should be rotated out if possible.
SCP-1 sheets are to be locked in a secure archive locker in [DATA EXPUNGED]. Security Clearance 2, an extensive knowledge in Big Band Jazz and music composition and approval by the acoustics staff are required in order to access SCP. Under no circumstances will any member of the site possess more than two sheets of SCP-1 unless approved by the research team and no copies or back-up manuscripts or files are to be made or uploaded.
SCP is to be tested in a soundproof studio. Site personnel must wear noise-isolating headsets at all times and be proficient with American Sign Language. Should an instance of SCP be detected, lockdown grade A- will be initiated: The studio will be put in quarentine until all personnel involved has been administered Class-A amnestetics by a task force consisting of no more than 4 members equipped with noise-isolating headsets.

Description: SCP is an audiohazard that consist in a piece of music which composition, melody and instruments indicate that it is a non-published version of Richie Birdland's 1935 hit "The Stars At My Hand" with some very noticeable deviations from the original. SCP-1 are the fragments of SCP that have been found on every affected individual. These instances are either in short choruses or long verses as SCP has yet to be found on its entirety in a single subject.
Upon hearing any instance of SCP, subjects become entranced or mesmerized by its catchy melody and are prone to hum it, whistle it or improvise lyrics. This efect is more prevalent with those familiar with the works of Richie Birdland and His Orchestra, and big band artists in general, such as Cab Calloway, Duke Ellington and Benny Goodman. SCP-1 instances vary with each individual and are cumulative, which means that should an affected person hear a different instance of SCP-1, they can and will expand the verse or chorus they possess and viceversa.
If the piece is played on its entirety, it binds itself to the memory of anyone hearing it, essensially becoming a permanent earworm. Subjects have expressed great disconfort and tiredness as they are unable to forget the song and play it constantly on their heads. Other ill effects include but are not limited to: Abnormal sleep patterns, insomia, depression, sudden change of subject's musical preferences and music artistry and proficiency.
Recent studies have shown that SCP is one of the world's most common earworms, with researchers placing on spot 102, bellow "Night On Bald Mountain" and "Barbie Girl". SCP-1 audiohazard effects are rare due to the unstable nature of verbal communication, thus affected individuals are usually passive carriers of instances of SCP-1. Should the individual possess a proper enviroment where their messages can be understood without the disruption of foreign noises, SCP-1 will spread to anyone within hearing range. Unless noise-isolating headsets or earplugs are available, anyone can carry an instance of SCP-1 of any length.
