A tree infected with SCP-XXXX-231

Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: A partition of at least 10m is to be maintained between SCP-XXXX and all surrounding plantlife. An electric fence surrounds the premise, preventing the movement of animals from SCP-XXXX to the surrounding environment. All equipment and personnel leaving the site of SCP-XXXX are to be put through a 3-step cleansing process detailed on-site. A research station is to be maintained on-site to continue research into SCP-XXXX. Any changes are to be immediately reported to Site-33. The research station is to be equipped with hazard protection equipment, as well as various herbicides. In case of a containment breach, MTF Theta-4 ("Gardeners") is to eliminate all subspecies outside of the containment zone. Mild electric shocks may be applied as 'punishment' to SCP-XXXX in case of overtly violent behaviour.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a collective of over 3782 species of plants, fungi, mammals, and arthropods, ████ of which do not naturally occur outside of SCP-XXXX. SCP-XXXX occupies an area ███ square kilometers in size and is located in ██████, Australia. It was discovered during an incident where loggers reported being attacked by 'possessed trees'. The story was suppressed and Foundation Agents sent to investigate (see Document 109FS-1).

The various organisms SCP-XXXX is composed of behave in a purely mutualistic fashion, their behaviours and life cycles coordinated to a degree far beyond what is observed in mundane organisms. All plants and fungi within SCP-XXXX are connected through a complex network of underground routes using various means to transport and store information. Information transmitted through this system can alter the behaviour and growth patterns of the SCP-XXXX subspecies, which allows it to respond to external stimuli in a coordinated fashion. Due to it's seeming ability to learn and adapt SCP-XXXX has been classified as a single sentient organism, and should be treated as such.

SCP-XXXX is capable of spreading and including other species into it's whole. It is uncertain if there is any limit to SCP-XXXX's potential growth. Due to it's tendency towards rapid adaptation and general hostility towards lifeforms outside of it, an unfettered spread of SCP-XXXX may constitute an XK-class end-of-the-world event. It is currently unknown whether human life could be assimilated as an element of SCP-XXXX.

Below are several prominent documented subspecies within SCP-XXXX. Each has been assigned a number between SCP-XXXX-001 and SCP-XXXX-3782. For a complete list of all documented species see Document 109DS-3.

SCP-XXXX-0231
A species of large arachnids, typically 15cm in diameter. These arachnids nest in large groups beneath the bark of several tree species, acting as a defense mechanism. Any damage to a nested tree will cause SCP-XXXX-231 to emerge in large swarms, becoming immediately hostile. SCP-XXXX-231 is capable of jumping, and primarily attacks with it's venomous bite. Unlike other species of venomous spider it will bite targets repeatedly, seemingly not stopping until the spider dies of exhaustion. It is likely that SCP-XXXX-231 instances do not hunt for food, and instead extract nutrients from the trees they hide in.

SCP-XXXX-1358
A species of vine that frequently grows along the bark of trees within SCP-XXXX. It is rooted into the neural network at the base, and seems to transfer signals through dew that it leaks at specific points. This dew feeds several insect species, including 231, 2484, and 83. Hormones contained within this dew can confer 'commands', with different hormones correlating to different actions.

Incident T-013
Several subspecies of SCP-XXXX were found outside of the containment area. Rapid intervention by MTF-Theta 9 ("Gardeners") prevented further spread,
