Don't Feed the Birds

Item #: SCP-5472

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-5472 is to be contained within the open space aviary in Site-██, periodic intervals of confinement to small spaces is permitted when required however these intervals should not exceed 1-3 hours. It is to be ensured that all food given to SCP-5472 is organic in nature, its consumption of synthetic or processed foods must be avoided. Instances of SCP-5472-1 are to be terminated following initial examination unless otherwise dictated by research personnel assigned to the anomaly.
No man-made food products are to enter within 20 meters of the containment chamber or otherwise risk containment breach.
Any and all living instances of SCP-5472-1 are to be contained or terminated.
All testing on SCP-5472 must be approved by at least 1 level-03 personnel and involve no researchers inside the containment space.

Description: SCP-5472 appears as a common seagull in coastal regions, otherwise the anomaly will present itself as a city-pigeon. Any time SCP-5472 is purposefully fed man-made food, SCP-5472-1 will manifest within 24 hours of initial exposure, hunting the victim over the next 72 hours of initial exposure. Unless visibly attacked by the instance, all other persons will recognize SCP-5472-1 as whatever species it initially appeared as.
SCP-5472-1 vaguely resembles a microraptor but remains with coloration resembling a seagull, along with some additional red and black regions. SCP-5472-1 has a scaled body and feathered wings. It has a small plume of feathers at the end of its tail. SCP-5472-1 had 8 eyes on either side of its head and small, sharp teeth protruding from its upper jaw.

Addendum: The initial discovery of SCP-2521 occurred after the reporting of an unusual animal attack following the █████████ family’s most recent vacation. A journal was confiscated and the family was administered amnestics. The following is a journal entry written before death.

“There’s always signs we never obey… “NO SMOKING”, “Do not feed the birds”, etc… Well, I fed the birds, and it seems to be the biggest mistake of my life. If you find this, always remember to Obey the Signs…
It’s at my window, the glass is starting to crack and I’m alone, scared—-”

The rest is illegible, with the exception of “DON’T FEED THE BIRDS” written in the victim’s blood.

After animal control was called, an MTF unit was dispatched to contain SCP-5472-1 and the civilian’s family was informed that he had died on a hiking trip to a bear attack. This is the first reported instance of SCP-5472-1.

Test log - 5472-1A
Further testing of SCP-5472 with Class-D personnel concluded that SCP-5472 was only recognized by the Class-D that fed the bird until about 42 hours after initial exposure, of which the Class-D exposed was attacked and only then did the other Class-D intervene, realizing the instance was not a regular bird, but in fact an instance of SCP-5472-1. The instance was shot by security personnel, but not before inflicting serious damage upon the two Class-D personnel.
Both Class-D were terminated after the test.
It is noted that each instance of SCP-5472-1 displays varying levels of intelligence and aggression. A few tests have shown individuals on the intelligent side have even been known to mimic human speech, almost like a parrot, and others, like the average for an avian of the species SCP-5472 had appeared as.
The varying aggression levels have proven testing difficult, as it’s nearly impossible to tell how the birds will react to our personnel.

It is unknown if there are other instances of SCP-5472, but since the containment of the anomaly in 20██, no such reports have been received.

Test Log - 5472-2
SCP-5472 was brought to the ███████████ Rainforest to test if the bird will appear as any tropical species.

SCP-5472’s temporary cage was uncovered. The anomaly appeared to personnel as a bird of the Ara Macao species.

Note: We have been unable to reproduce this effect in any other location thus far.
