Item #SCPxxxx
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures
SCPxxxx is to be contained in a 1m x 1m x 1m airtight steel vault on the second floor of Site [DATA EXPUNGED] and requires level 3 or higher staff members with additional written clearance by the lead researcher to access the vault for test purposes. SCPxxxx is only to be touched by D class personnel during testing. Once authorisation for testing has been cleared, SCPxxxx will be placed in a well lit testing unit and observed by attending researchers and assistant researchers from behind security monitors. Two briefed D class personnel are to be added to the unit and assume test positions. Only D class personnel are to be photographed during testing, unauthorised use of SCPxxxx is grounds for immediate incarceration and/or termination. Any D class found using, or attempting to use, SCPxxxx is to be classed as a level 2 containment breach until SCPxxxx is recovered by on duty security units and the involved D class is confirmed as terminated unless detainment is possible without further danger.
Description
SCPxxxx is the designation given to an unbranded 35mm film camera speculated to have been manufactured between the 1960s and 1970s, based upon the design of chrome and black leather consistent with the time period.
SCPxxxx's anomalous properties are triggered when a clear photograph is taken of a subject's face. The subject, now known as SCPxxxx-1, will begin to complain of sharp migraines approximately one hour after being photographed. Within the next three hours the subject will begin to show signs of paranoia, expressing a desire to cover their face at all times, even when sleeping, and mention hallucinations of a shadowed figure that can be seen in close proximity to the subject. As the next three to nine hours pass subjects will exhibit different effects ranging from sudden and deep sleep cycles to extreme outbursts of aggression that has been described as "feral" by witnesses. See incident report SCPxxxx-D7733 for more information on this occurrence. From this point up to 24 hours after the initial photograph was taken, all subjects will expire. Cause of death is reported as a full shutdown of the brain and vital organs followed by asphyxiation of the brain and cardiac arrest. Revival of subjects is not possible or advised. It is noted that all subjects reported the same need to cover their faces at all times, even resorting to extreme methods to achieve this.
SCPxxxx-2 refers to the shadowed figure that appears behind the subjects photographed. It stands behind the subject almost completely mimicking their stance and height while showing a part of the head and one eye exposed, looking past the subject. The figure is devoid of any features, except for the aforementioned eye. SCPxxxx-2 has so far only been seen in the anomalous photographs taken of instances of SCPxxxx-1. SCPxxxx-2 is theorised to be the hallucinations that instances of SCPxxxx-1 report to observe before death. It is currently unknown if SCPxxxx-2 can materialise outside of the affected photographs or if unaffected individuals can visibly see SCPxxxx-2. To date, no unaffected personnel have seen or come into contact with SCPxxxx-2.
Incident Report SCPxxxx-D7733
Subject is designated D7733, male 28 years old of age and convicted of two counts of first degree murder and drug distribution.
Recorded at 12:48pm on 14/05/[REDACTED], D7733 is seen standing in the corner of the cell facing the wall with their hands covering the sides of the face, obstructing view and muttering incoherently. After approval from the lead researcher, two staff enter the cell and ask D7733 to view the photograph taken of him approximately three hours prior. D7733 refuses profusely, stating the he cannot show his face to "it". When questioned, subject remains silent. It is believed that D7733 is referring to SCPxxxx-2 as "it". As D7733 begun to show signs of increased aggression, two D class personnel were instructed to restrain D7733 and force him to view the photograph. When D7733's face is revealed he immediately begun to scream and claw at his face with increasing force. By the time he was fully restrained and medical staff were present, D7733 had fully removed both eyes, severing them from the brain and optical nerve causing major trauma. The skin on D7733's face was torn off in large chunks and bleeding rapidly. D7733 exasperated at an irrational rate for 40 seconds before expiring.
Cause of death: Heavy trauma to the brain via forced removal of the optical nerve.
Note: It is hypothesised that all instances of SCPxxxx-1 will act in a similar manner when hallucinations are reported. However, it is still unknown whether death or deliberate blindness is the aim of this act. The nature of this incident requires further inspection and deliberation from the Ethics Committee before attempting testing again.
Interview Log D7546
D7546 sits nervously at the table, his hands are visibly restless with signs of skin missing from around the finger nails. Dr [REDACTED] enters the room with one armed guard.
Dr [REDACTED]: It has now been exactly three hours 42 minutes and 29 seconds since your photograph was taken by SCPxxxx. Can you describe how you are feeling?
D7546 shuffles in his seat and can be seen breathing deeply.
D7546: The headaches won't stop. It won't let it. It won't let me think.
Dr [REDACTED]: What do you mean by "it"?
D7546: The thing with me in the picture. It's real. Can't you see it? Why can't anyone see it? Sometimes its there, in the corner of my eye. Sometimes it stands right in front of me. I can't look at it. I feel like I'm dying but I feel nothing. It follows me into sleep.
Dr [REDACTED]: Can you describe the entity?
D7546 remains silent and breathing is visibly elevated.
Dr [REDACTED]: Can you illustrate it?
D7546 remains silent and reaches for the pencil, his hands begin to shake violently as he turns his eyes to look past Dr [REDACTED]. As he does, his eyes quickly roll back into his head so far as to tear the tissue. D7546 then, in one swift movement, throws his head down onto the pencil in his hand and penetrates his right eye with the blunt end of the pencil. Death is instant.
Interview terminated.
