Mulhausen

There's a running joke in the foundation, about the first two SCPs

Two researchers are talking about their assignments. The first is working on SCP-001, the second on SCP-002.

ah fuck, how does the rest of it go again?

listen, the joke is that skip 1 will make you lose all touch with reality, being caught in a hellish nightmare of despair, while skip 2 is a glorified meat furniture maker. Big whoop. Just don't go in it and it'll be fine.

A collection squad of SCP security personnel led by General Mulhausen was immediately dispatched to the area where they quickly secured the subject in a large container and performed initial testing with subjects recruited from the nearby village. Three men individually sent into the structure subsequently disappeared. Upon discovering this deadly property of the subject, General Mulhausen issued a Level 4a Termination Order of any witnesses (roughly 1/3 of the village) to ensure no outside knowledge of the object and initiated its transport to SCP facility 17, in order to be studied and tested.

After securing SCP-002 on that barge, SCP-002's effects begin to manifest within the ship. Several Staff members, including Mulhausen himself, reportedly found themselves increasingly paranoid and agoraphobic. Those effected by SCP-002 noted a strong desire to "ditch this small town life and live it up in the big city". At approxialty 2 hours after boarding the ship, General Mulhausen goes to the captains quarters to demand that the ship be turned around and brought to the closest urban area immeadatly. When asked for more details, Mulhausen became violent, picking up the captain by the neck and slamming him into a nearby wall. Mulhausen then directed the crew to turn the freighter around and sail into Lisbon (the closest and most densely populated city in the area)
The crew, who where not aware of the SCP onboard, did as instructed, but secretly informed a neighboring ship (USS Republic) that their vessel was under the attack from the inside.

[DATA EXPUNGED]

Following the termination of General Mulhausen, SCP-002 was re-secured by SCP staff and brought into special containment in [CLASSIFIED], where it currently resides. Staff with clearance below Level 3 have been denied access to the SCP-002 container without prior approval of at least two Level 4 staff after the Mulhausen incident.

I get that question a lot, you'd be surprised. Mainly just new employees who just dipped their toes into SCP-001. They see all this care and aunotomity and protection and they're blown away, so they think

"Hey, I wonder what the second SCP is about?" and.. well.

Listen, I don't understand the organization any better than you do, its designed that way. But really? That's SCP-002? It's laughable the amount of delicate care that the O5s put into SCP-001, just to have the next one be a meatball that turns people into furniture.

eventually, you start getting curious, start poking around, you find scp 1 and you'Re meet with a cognitohazard warning and, if you're dumb enough to ignore it, a permantly braindead member of society.

1922. was the foundation young or old back then? ah it barely matters. trying to understand our history is like finding a dead baby in a pool of mollasess, it's wrong, it's ardenous, and it doesn't explain how it got there. What you need to know is this

1922. end of ww1

it's what they don't tell us. like that hitchcock quote with the bomb underneath the table, but they keep talking about baseball. We do the same, but we know theres a bomb. we just don't know when it is.

so heres the deal.

heres what you need to know
1. we where sending it to site 19.
2. after Mulhausen puts the skip on the boat? Bloody miracle where were never caught. We had pumics, yes, but not in high supply! That shit was expensive, and this dipshit just waltzs it in Porto! Keep in mind, he had just killed over a thouasand people for even looking at this thing, and he was just gonna drape a blanket over it and send it into the second largest city in Portugal? Idiotic.

we didn't know what it needed back then. we didn't know how to control it's spread back then.

i hate to say it but i don't blame the guy. he served his country in ww1, fought on the frontlines with his men. He hated that war more than he ever could've hated a kraut. He was told to keep it a secret, and he kept it a secret. His is heart was in the right place, but he didn't know what he was dealing with. He just saw it as a mission. He didn't know what he was doing.

i hope he didn't know what he was doing. god i hope so.

He was given the orders of "keep it secret, keep it secure and bring it to site 17."

We get a lot of questions here in the foundation. We rarely know the answer, we just keep doing what we've been told to do and hope that it works. And if it doesn't we'll try something else until that works too. I don't know when the foundation began, I'm not sure anyone does. We're so buried deep in false memories and amnestics that i wouldn't be surprised in the least that the SCP foundation is thousands of years old, predating modern civilization, or if it was formed in late 2017 and we've all been imagining we've existed before then because of some stupid skip.
