Musical Masterpiece

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: Item SCP-XXXX is kept in a locked glass vault at Site-XX when not in use. The room must also be well-lit and low in moisture, as SCP-XXXX is easily susceptible to environmental damage. Vault access is restricted to personnel above clearance level 2. All tests must be scheduled and approved by Dr [EXPUNGED] prior to appointment.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a singular page of sheet music with a burnt off top right corner and a wine stain covering the lower half rendering it incomprehensible.

The Foundation was first alerted to the existence of SCP-XXXX in 1945, when a US army Artwork Recovery Team located it in Nazi occupied Berlin in an underground bunker, housing stolen pieces of artwork. SCP-XXXX was found propped in the music rack of a grand piano surrounded by 5 recently deceased Nazi officers one of which were seated on the stool in front of the piano. Autopsy’s on all 5 subjects revealed their death was due to brain haemorrhaging.

Forensic analysis revealed SCP-XXXX to have originated from Romania, made evident by a wine stain identified as a rare 1864 vintage exclusively manufactured in the Apuseni Mountains, at coordinates [REDACTED]. This likely means it was stolen during Germany’s invasion of Romania as early as July 5th, 1940.

Using D-Class personal with musical experience and test rats, in a completely sound proofed bunker, experiments were conducted discovering when played to certain degree of accuracy on acoustic instruments has a range of effects.

When played on a classic grand piano the test rat and 2 present D-Class Personnel and who could hear the music died due to brain hemorrhaging.

When played with a Flute, SCP-XXXX appears to pacify all creatures within earshot (NOTE: further testing required on overtly aggressive SCPs such as SCP-682).

When played on an Organ or an Accordion, all listeners will enter a trance-like state of consciousness. Whoever is playing SCP-XXXX at this time can administer basic instructions, and subjects under these effects will obey willingly. [NOTE: Those under the influence of the organ are more subservient to the player]

Whilst attempting to review footage of SCP-XXXX, it was discovered the sound could not be recorded by any digital means. The first few seconds can be heard before all sound in the footage cuts to a singular high-pitched note. Further tests into recording the sound discovered that it could only be recorded on a manually operated phonograph, the physical recording of which (SCP-XXXX-A) is required to be manually played, resulting in the same effects of the subjects who listen.

The Fender Incident: The first deviation from Acoustic testing proved catastrophic. 30 seconds into playing SCP-XXXX on a Fender Stratocaster Performer resulted in a 6.2 magnitude earthquake, the epicentre of which surrounding where SCP-XXXX was played, destabilising the structural integrity of Site-XX. It is now clear that SCP-XXXX possesses a power output far greater than previously anticipated. Upon review of tectonic plate movements throughout the duration of this time, a correspondence was found between the activation of SCP-XXXX and the discharge of immense energy resulting in the earthquake. At this time, it is assumed that the effects of SCP-XXXX can only reach such intensity when played on an electric instrument. All further experiments on electric instruments are to be strictly prohibited, effective immediately. Future testing on electric instruments and replication on a digital platform, will proceed when an offsite testing area has been secured.
