SCP-4992 - Skull Stickers

Item #: SCP-4992

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: All instances of SCP-4992 are to be stored in a safe made of copper in Containment Chamber 23, Site-926. Access to Containment Chamber 23 requires at least Level 3/4992 authorisation.

As per the events detailed in Incident 4992-01, all instances of SCP-4992-2 are to be neutralized within Incineration Chamber 18.

Description: SCP-4992 refers to a set of eighteen sheets of stickers, each around thirty square centimetres in size, with a realistic illustration of a human skull on the non-adhesive side. Each sheet contains six stickers in a two-by-three arrangement. Chemical testing of the adhesive on individual SCP-4992 instances shows a recipe phased out as an industry standard no later than 1983.

SCP-4992 instances exhibit anomalous properties after being applied to the face of any living human, as well as most other mammals. Once secured, the subject (designated SCP-4992-2) will begin to make an extremely high-pitched screaming sound, usually varying between 6000 and 8000 Hertz, far beyond the vocal range expected of a human.1 They will begin to violently convulse and claw at their own face in an apparent, and usually unsuccessful, attempt to remove the SCP-4992 sticker, which will proceed for approximately two to five minutes. Afterwards, the sticker (now designated SCP-4992-1) will have the image of a skull replaced with an image of SCP-4992-2's face prior to the application of the sticker. In certain cases, SCP-4992-2 instances experience abnormally high levels of cyanosis, resulting in particularly significant grey discoloration.

If an instance of SCP-4992-1 is torn, punctured, or damaged otherwise, an unknown colourless gaseous substance will be forcefully ejected from the fault zone at speeds of up to 137 meters per second, causing major mechanical damage to anything caught in the stream. This process, producing a similar screaming sound to the application process of a SCP-4992 sticker, does not seem to actually propel the sticker itself by any notable degree, despite its mass being comparable to many non-anomalous stickers. Attempts to capture any of this substance for testing purposes have proven unsuccessful, as it does not seem to be able to interact with any solid or liquid matter after three seconds of expulsion and appears completely intangible to all tested wavelengths of electromagnetic radiation. The sticker will revert to having a skull after this. However, attempts to reuse damaged stickers have been deemed unsuccessful.

Often, messages can be found on areas of skin of SCP-4992-2 instances covered by SCP-4992-1. These are usually messily written, resemblant of that of a child, and appear to indirectly comment on the respective SCP-4992-2 instance.

Acquisition Log - SCP-4992 was first brought to the Foundation's attention through a video uploaded on the 19th of May, 202█ on the [REDACTED] video sharing network, which had gathered 97 views prior to its takedown. The video shows a man dressed in dark clothing luring numerous children into a wooded area near ███████ Elementary School before proceeding to use the stickers on them.

Class C amnestics were administered to all viewers of the video, the families of the children involved, and all employees of ███████ Elementary School. All recovered SCP-4992-2 instances were taken into Foundation custody and are now housed in Containment Chamber 7 at Site-926 were incinerated following Incident 4992-01. All missing children were replaced with D-class personnel from alternate universe 8█Q-██3-█7E, equipped with the respective clothing and school supplies of the missing children, administered Class F amnestics, and genetic replacement through [REDACTED].

Log of Testing

Subject: D-4992-1
Subject description: African-American male of average build
Result: Image appeared as expected, with no major flaws noted.
Message: "Another friend! Yay!"

Subject: D-4992-2
Subject description: Caucasian male, mildly overweight
Result: Resultant image appeared to be from a "slightly slimmer" version of the subject, possibly to fit the shape of the sticker.
Message: "A bigger friend! Yay!"

Subject: D-4992-3
Subject description: Caucasian male of average build
Result: Subject jerked away during application of the sticker, providing suboptimal facial coverage. After █ minutes, subject was able to remove the SCP-4992 and, after a pause of 3 seconds, attempted to attack Researcher █████ for administering it, but was eventually restrained. Testing showed that the subject's temporal lobe had suffered major decomposition. Subject terminated on 5/██/20██.
Message: "l"

Subject: D-4992-4, observing the adhesive face through a camera transmitting to a cathode ray tube television
Result: Subject experienced constant distress, and incessantly complained about "a
door" on the adhesive side of the sticker. Subject experienced no ill effects. Camera and TV recovered with no apparent damage, with no anomalies found on the footage.

Subject: One cat (Felis catus)
Subject description: Was the pet of D-10783-6, confiscated prior to her being taken into Foundation custody.
Result: Subject did not produce any audible sounds characteristic of testing in humans. Resultant image was unnaturally stretched to fit the dimensions of the sticker.
Message: "A kitty! Yay!"

Incident 4992-01
Date: 2028-04-07
Location: Containment Chamber 7, Site-926
Personnel present: D-4992-18 [subject], Researcher ███████, Researcher █████
Subject description: ████████ █████ of average build
Result: Unlike what had been observed in all previous testing, the subject immediately collapsed after application of the SCP-4992 instance, with no other immediate anomalous effects associated with SCP-4992 taking place. Over the course of approximately twenty-five minutes, D-4992-18 could be seen repetitively denying what appeared to be a request coming from above them, despite no auditory or visual anomalies having been noted within the testing chamber. A large amount of these complaints were noted to have mentioned [DATA EXPUNGED], giant skulls and "desires of childlike liberation" particularly frequently. Their tone of voice slowly shifted from assertive and stubborn to considerably more irritated before launching numerous expletives at the presence and unsuccessfully attempting to roll onto their front, which "activated" the sticker.

While SCP-4992-2-18 was being transported to Containment Chamber 7 (approximately 0.6km from Testing Chamber ██), motion could be noticed from its container. Upon closing the door of Containment Chamber 7, SCP-4992-2-18 managed to break free of its container, proceeding to attack and [DATA EXPUNGED] Researcher ███████, and, using its fingernails, managed to scratch a skull-like emblem on his left shoulder with unnatural strength. With the help of [REDACTED], SCP-4992-2-18 was eventually brought under control, all personnel were able to evacuate the room, and SCP-4992-2-18 was successfully contained.

Testing of SCP-4992 on humans has currently been discontinued, and all instances of SCP-4992-2 are now to be incinerated within the newly-built Incineration Chamber 18, directly adjacent to Testing Chamber ██, to minimize any further threats posed by SCP-4992-2. All instances of SCP-4992-2 procured throughout testing, as well as from SCP-4992's initial recovery, have as such been incinerated in safety interests.

Message: "You know what you did, Mr. C███████."
