Mystery Corn

Item#: SCP-XXXX

corn-field.jpg

Object Class: Safe Keter

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX and the surrounding barn are to be protected by an electric chain link fence. Cover Story XXXX-K is to be given to civilians entering the area, which is that the area has been condemned due to high toxicity levels from pesticides. Satellite imaging must distort the nearby Foundation research outpost to avoid suspicion. SCP-XXXX-1 instances deemed safe are to be stored in an airtight organic preservation unit for study. SCP-XXXX-1 instances deemed volatile must be disposed of immediately, as some instances have the potential to severely harm. the nearby area. Level 2 information leaked by SCP-XXXX-1 must be treated with affected person(s) being amnesticized with Class C or stronger amnestic at the discretion of on-site personnel. SCP-XXXX-1-AA(corrupted) is to be disregarded on account of confirmed SCP-XXXX-1-S infohazard effect.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a cornfield located in ██████, Ohio, USA measuring 400mx350m. SCP-XXXX-1 are any stalks of corn that grow from SCP-XXXX. Growth of SCP-XXXX-1 is non-anomalous until exactly 8 weeks after initial sprout from the ground. The main difference between normal corn(Zea mays) and SCP-XXXX-1 instances is that all kernels within are a seemingly random object or material commonly found on Earth. Kernels can also manifest non-physical properties such as thought(delivered to a person through unknown means), light, gaseous elements, and other forms of energy with no matter(see Addendum below). The contents of the corn can vary with unlimited possibility from inert to alive. Some SCP-XXXX-1 instances have the words, "MYSTERY CORN" inscribed on its outside, with contents appearing to contain normal corn kernels while exhibiting the same random properties of other instances. These rarer instances only manifest their anomalous trait when bitten in to by a sapient being, making them more dangerous to experiment with. -Due to the containment of SCP-XXXX being rather easy as minimal interaction with it would keep it inert, SCP-XXXX is classified as Safe.— Following Incident XXXX-1-P(shown in Addendum below), SCP-XXXX has been reclassified as Keter.

Discovery and History: SCP-XXXX first came to Foundation knowledge in 1988 when an anonymous caller reached out to a Foundation cellphone in Site-19, despite it being in a closed-circuit. The caller is assumed to have eaten an SCP-XXXX-1 instance that gave them knowledge of the Foundation. Field agents found what is presumed to be the callers' corpse within the barn as a result of suicide. The barn's history is limited but is traced back to 1866 when likely, non-anomalous corn was being grown. It is suspected that SCP-XXXX-1 instances began appearing only shortly before the anonymous call, likely early 1980's.

Addendum XXXX.1: Instance Log of notable SCP-XXXX-1 not marked with "MYSTERY CORN". Note that all most contents stated are miniature versions that seemingly replace the kernels and that these were notable instances.:

Instance # Contents Explanation, Effects, and Containment Procedure Updates
SCP-XXXX-1-A Cobs of corn Examination found that this instance was made of cobs of corn smaller than its own cob that produced it. This cycle of infinite corn did not have an apparent end.
SCP-XXXX-1-C Carbon-Monoxide Notable because this the only first instance involving a gaseous compound and no kernels. This is likely due to the fact that the substance cannot exist in a solid state.
SCP-XXXX-1-D Fragmentation grenades(World War Two Era) Grenades had no safety pins when the husk was peeled, causing each to explode, killing 1 researcher. Containment Procedure updated to where viewers of the instance are not in direct contact or line of sight. Extreme caution is now exhibited.
SCP-XXXX-1-E An unknown force of energy giving Foundation personnel within 2 meters knowledge of SCP-087 The contents of inside the corn was non-existent and was pure energy. Two researchers affected by this instance were given Class-B amnestic and released.
SCP-XXXX-1-F Blood of Human (identified as that of an armed guard stationed at nearby Foundation outpost) The guard in question did not lose any blood or other organic matter.
SCP-XXXX-1-G Pure tin Tin had approximately 20 times more density than naturally occurring tin found on Earth. Notable because of the potential to make rare resources in very high quantities.
SCP-XXXX-1-H Unknown substance emitting 3200 lumens of light The instance blinded 1 researcher even though not looking directly at it. Containment Procedures updated to ensure that occular hazards are detected before looking at the instance indirectly.
SCP-XXXX-1-P(Incident XXXX-1-P) Antimatter particles Antimatter was suspended within transparent shells and do not contact matter unless broken. One kernel broke and a 5 meter radius around SCP-XXXX-1-P was vaporized except for itself and other kernels. Incident killed 4 Foundation personnel. Disposal of this instance has not been discussed as of yet and is currently still help in a more secure holding unit.
SCP-XXXX-1-Q 05-4's cerebrospinal fluid1 The contents had a 100% match to the previous 05-4.
SCP-XXXX-1-S An infohazarous phenomenon released by unknown means. Physical contents were non-anomalous corn kernels. Approximately 9% of documents within 400 meters written in any form became partially or completely corrupted, ranging from simple spelling errors to entire documents completely erased. All documents following the release of SCP-XXXX-1-S are considered compromised and are to be analyzed for discrepancies.
SCP-XXXX-1-U Non-anomalous oboes(woodwind instruments) Besides their size, the instruments were in good condition with working reeds.
SCP-!@#$-%-++ Destruction of the SCP Foundation All sites and Foundation personnel immediately vaporized.2

Addendum XXXX.2: Instance Log of SCP-XXXX-1 marked with "MYSTERY CORN" on its exterior. Note that the only possible method of manifesting the anomalous properties is by having a sapient being bite on the kernels.:

Instance # Subject Subject's Description of SCP-XXXX-1 instance Result
SCP-XXXX-1-AN D-3856 D-3856 described the corn as "normal as can be". Subject ate all of SCP-XXXX-1-AN. D-3856's stomach imploded after approximately 5 hours following the test. Subject killed. Corpse incinerated.
SCP-XXXX-1-CZ D-1143 D-1143 did not respond to attempted interrogation. Subject seemed to have gained knowledge of how to escape from the outpost. After successfully typing in correct passcodes to multiple doors, Subject was terminated by on-site armed guards.
SCP-XXXX-1-DA D-08056 D-08056 began reciting the true version of SCP-001. Subject immediately terminated as to not reveal Level-5 Data. All on-site personnel were voluntarily given Class-A amnestic. Further testing has been postponed by order of 05-██.

Addendum XXXX.3: ALL FURTHER TEST LOGS HAVE BEEN REDACTED BY ORDER OF 05-██.
