A naturally occurring instance of SCP-4940

Special Containment Procedures: All organizations and individuals who have dealt with or are investigating SCP-4940 are to be kept under surveillance by Mobile Task Force Theta-4. Persons under the influence of SCP-4940-2, deemed SCP-4940-3, are to be detained and incinerated. Absolutely no contact with wild or captive instances of SCP-4940 or SCP-4940-1 is allowed without prior consent from Director Nicholas Gertz. Description: SCP-4940 is a genus of parasitic flowering plants resembling the species ‘Rafflesia arnoldii.’ The plant has no stems, leaves or roots. SCP-4940 is an obligate parasite of hominids that ensnares its victim in SCP-4940’s equivalent to a conventional haustorium. The un-concealed portion of SCP-4940 resembles a five-petalled ‘Rafflesia arnoldii’ flower with a mean diameter of 117 centimeters and a standard deviation of 2.34 (rounded) centimeters. Unlike conventional ‘Rafflesia arnoldii’ SCP-4940’s ‘disk projections’ (designated SCP-4940-1) are thorns that consists of a hardened material organically grown by SCP-4940.

SCP-4940’s haustorium is a resilient epidermal layer, opaque and uniformly a dark brown. The haustorium is coated in an as-of-yet-to-be-identified viscous substance designated, SCP-4940-2. SCP-4940-2 for SCP-4940 acts as a reproductive fluid that contains pollen from SCP-4940 in suspension. Extensive chemical analysis of has revealed the existence of DMT and dopamine as substituents within SCP-4940-2. SCP-4940-2’s primary chemical structure cannot be identified by current methods due to its anomalous properties. SCP-4940-2 volatilizes easily into a highly addictive vapor that entices its victim to taste SCP-4940-2. Upon tasting or injecting SCP-4940-2, all cases, designated SCP-4940-3, have reported developing an intense craving for SCP-4940-2.

Upon consuming SCP-4940-2, there is an 50% chance that an instance SCP-4940-1 will teleport to within the vicinity of 5 meters from SCP-4940-3 and direct itself towards SCP-4940-3 at speeds of up to [REDACTED]. It is of note that SCP-4940-1 on impact of a surface causes SCP-4940-1 to combust, releasing small fragments of SCP-4940-1 throughout SCP-4940-3’s body. The mechanism that allows the instantaneous transportation of SCP-4940-1 over large distances is as of yet unknown. SCP-4940-3 will disregard all other foods and beverages, rejecting them both physically and mentally. Food consumed will be regurgitated while any fluids other than SCP-4940-2 consumed will be violently rejected. Upon death, the dormant pollen within SCP-4940-3 will begin to germinate until multiple instances of SCP-4940 envelops the entire corpse. Envelopment of the carcass can occur as rapidly 3 days to 6 weeks. Regular consumption of SCP-4940-2 by SCP-4940-3 will cause hallucinations and a varied range of adverse health effects.

SCP-4940 was discovered in ████████, Indonesia after embedded agents in the Indonesian National Police stumbled upon a large concentration of SCP-4940 on a raid of an abandoned drug house.

Addendum 4940-2-A: Update to Special Containment Procedures: As of ██/██/████, SCP-4940 has been reclassified from Eculid to Keter. Due to the confluence of recent events that have resulted in the deaths of █ agents and an increase of instances in major population centers around South East Asia, investigation into alternate means of reliably keeping SCP-4940 away from human population centers are underway. The abnormally high concentration of SCP-4940 occurrences specifically in the ████████, Philippines displays SCP-4940’s ability to coordinate with other instances of itself. Whether this is through a hive mind or through SCP-4940 having some sort of situational awareness is unknown. The respective governments, ███████████, ████████, ██████, █████████████ and ████████ have sanctioned the extra judicial killings of individuals suspected of being SCP-4940-3.
