Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: SCP is to be stored in a 10 x 10 x 10-meter room. The door of SCP is to remain open at all times when not in use. Testing or any use of SCP is to not being conducted without the explicit written permission from Dr. ███████. Testing should only be conducted with D-Class personnel.

Description: SCP appears to be a large rectangular object made of an unidentified metallic substance. Attempts at damaging this substance through any means have proven ineffective. SCP is 1.7 meters long, 1.7 meters wide, and 2.2 meters tall, and weighs in at about 150 kilograms. One side of SCP contains a door with a handle made of the same substance that allows access to the inside of SCP.

The inside of SCP is a chamber 1 meter long, 1 meter wide, and 2 meters tall. Inside is a large knob parallel to the doorway. The knob in its default state points vertically. The knob can turn up to 90 degrees to its left and right. To the left, right, and top of the knob are sets of three unidentified characters of an unknown language. The interior side of the door contains a handle as well as a locking mechanism. When this lock is disengaged, and/or the door is opened, turning this knob has no effect.

Once the door is closed and the lock is engaged, SCP displays anomalous properties. Attempts at peering through the crack between the door and the door frame are ineffective, either from the exterior or interior. Wired (by feeding a cord through the crack between the door and the door frame) or wireless communication to someone while inside SCP is ineffective. All clocks, stopwatches, or any device for tracking the passage of time immediately cease to function while inside SCP-5038. In this state, no sound from the exterior of SCP can be heard from the interior, and vice versa.

However, there is one anomalous property that stands out. While in this state, turning the knob affects the speed at which time passes outside SCP. Testing shows that when the knob is turned to the left, time outside SCP passes slower, and when it is turned to the right, time outside SCP passes faster. When the knob is in its default state, time passes at its normal rate. Testing also showed that the more the knob was turned to one side, the more the passage of time would be affected. SCP has shown that it is able to speed up or slow time anywhere from 1.1 to ██ times than normal, depending on how much the knob was turned to one side. A test with a clock and stopwatch confirmed that time passes normally outside SCP, even if the knob inside SCP is engaged. If the door lock is disengaged while the knob is turned to the left or right, it will automatically return to its default state. It appears as if that even if the knob is engaged to either slow or speed up time outside SCP, that time inside SCP passes normally. However, since attempts to make use of devices that track the passage of time have proven ineffective, this is unconfirmed.
