An instance of SCP-XXXX-1b

Special containment procedures: The area where SCP-XXXX is native to is to be monitored at all times for instances of SCP-XXXX-3. Due to the vast area that SCP-XXXX-1 covers, and the fact that it is virtually indistinguishable from the non anomalous members of its species, full containment is impossible but any identified instances are to be burnt. A disinformation campaign to hide the existence of SCP-XXXX is to be reinforced. Any instances of SCP-XXXX-3 are to be isolated and, if in stage 1 or early stage 2, to be treated and then provided class-B amnestics. If in late stage 2, or stages 3-4, the host should be terminated and the body incinerated.

The forests and woodlands in the area should be searched for instances of SCP-XXXX-4 and if they are found the, surrounding area should be quarantined from the public. If an instance of SCP-XXXX-4 is found in a populated area, it should be incinerated.

Description: SCP-XXXX refers to 4 seperate entities. SCP-XXXX-1a is the fruit of a plant closely related to the Phoenix dactylifera1 and is found throughout north-east Egypt , Israel, Jordan and the Tabuk region of of Saudi Arabia although one instance has been found in K██████, Pakistan, presumably due to importation. Instances of SCP-XXXX fruit appear fleshy and ovular and usually have a dark brown pericarp, with an unusually small seed compared to most dates. It constantly releases a mixture of pheromones and fragrances that seem pleasant to most mammals, including humans. When damaged, usually due to partial consumption, the insides begin to produce more of this fragrance, as well as secrete small amounts of dark brown, sweet liquid, henceforth known as SCP-XXXX-2. It has shown to be highly addictive, has both extreme psychedelic as well as anesthetic properties and has been found to have chemical structure similar to heroin, compelling the consumer to eat the rest of SCP-XXXX-1, usually including the seed. The consumer, if they have ingested the seed, is henceforth known as SCP-XXXX-3. What happens next is as follows:

Stage one:
The seed usually germinates in the lower intestine, after a period of approximately 40 minutes. The growth rate is exceptionally quick, usually with several centimetres in an hour. However testing has
shown that it depends on SCP-XXXX-3's usual habits and diet. Subjects usually experience a minor
pain in the region, nausea, vomiting as well as painful constipation. In some cases, the large intestine ruptures, leading to extreme pain. SCP-XXXX-1 usually secretes PAF2 and grows over the rupture, presumably in an attempt to keep SCP-XXXX-3 alive. At this stage, SCP-XXXX-1 can be removed.

Stage two:
Once SCP-XXXX-1 has reached the top of the small intestine, it then begins to grow throughout
specifically the digestive system. To keep SCP-XXXX-3 alive during this process, SCP-XXXX-1 secretes
masses of SCP-XXXX-2, which provides all the nutrients the body needs to survive for a short while.
Subjects experience total agony at first but then fall under the effects of SCP-XXXX-2, leading to the complete loss of rationality. At this stage, SCP-XXXX-1 can be removed.

Stage three:
Once SCP-XXXX-1 has filled the digestive system, it then begins to wrap around the spinal cord and reaches to the brain stem. It also grows softer, more flexible material throughout the muscle of SCP-XXXX-3. Subjects have limited understanding of their surroundings and/or what is currently occuring to them due to SCP-XXXX-2 but are usually still extremely distressed by this point. There is now an inability to move any limbs or joints from the torso and down, and in severe cases, any muscle at all from the bottom of the head.

Stage four:
SCP-XXXX-1 sends various chemicals over the brain stem and spinal cord and production of SCP-XXXX-2 is is further increased. Several ruptures in the skin appear and roots are visible outside of the body. A weblike substance made of xylem tissue fills in lacerations very quickly, both internally and externally, and prevents the subject from bleeding to death. SCP-XXXX-3 is rendered completely immobile and either unable or unwilling to communicate presumably due to the effects of SCP-XXXX-2. By the end of this stage, subjects are usually covered in a sprawl of roots so thick, they are completely unrecognisable.

Stage five:
SCP-XXXX-1a begins to grow non anomalously as a date palm, albeit at an accelerated rate. Due to an immense change in characteristics, it will now be referred to as SCP-XXXX-1b. Digestive enzymes are released in small quantities, allowing SCP-XXXX-1 to make use of the muscle mass and fat stores in the host body. SCP-XXXX-3 will continue to stay alive.

SCP-XXXX-1b has only been recorded to bloom when the following requirements are met:

* SCP-XXXX-1b is over approximately 3 weeks old.
* SCP-XXXX-1b has reached a height of approximately 12 metres or more.
* SCP-XXXX-1b has no deficiency of nutrients, sunlight and water.

SCP-XXXX-1b then produces swathes of stubby, very small red flowers. When pollinated, SCP-XXXX-1 will start forming from the flower extremely quickly, in approximately 19 hours it will have become a fully mature instance of SCP-XXXX-1b. When most of the flowers have become instances of SCP-XXXX-1, they will all drop on ground and SCP-XXXX-1b will start producing SCP-XXXX-2 and keep releasing fragrances, presumably to attract animals. When SCP-XXXX-1b is eaten, the cycle begins again. SCP-XXXX-b does this once every lunar cycle if all the requirements mentioned above are met. One instance of SCP-XXXX-b has been confirmed to be over 2600 years old.
