Special Containment Procedures: SCP-#### is to be secured in a locked cabinet drawer measuring 0.5m, by 0.5m, by 0.7m using a manual combination padlock with no less than 1,000 combinations. Said combinations are not to be known by anyone with a Level 2 security clearance or lower. SCP-#### is also to be restrained with a single 5-Ton ratchet lashing strap until all mobile parts are held in place. Due to the inert nature of SCP-####, security personnel are not required at this time.
Description: SCP-#### is a single-lever switch measuring 0.21m from hinge to handle tip, attached to a rectangular base measuring 0.25m by 0.12m by 0.05m and weighing, in all, 10.4kg. SCP-#### is principally constructed from wrought iron of Victorian design. Despite this, dating the year of production has been unsuccessful due to molecular changes "refreshing" the outer layer almost constantly. Despite efforts, dismantling of SCP-#### has proved unsuccessful.
Upon the surface of SCP-####, the words "ON" and "OFF" are written in white. These markings have also been seen "repairing" once damaged, but never to a point where one would deem them freshly painted, yet always remain legible.
The handle of SCP-#### is currently set to "OFF" and seems immovable using standard manual force. The hinges of SCP-#### do not appear rusted, fused or in any other way obstructed. Reasons as to why the handle of SCP-#### is stuck to "OFF" are under investigation.
Several scratches upon the surface of SCP-#### around the "ON" marking have been observed as being the only areas of SCP-#### which do not "refresh." These markings coincide with the shape of the handle, suggesting that SCP-####'s handle was once, or has been in the "ON" position. Such an instance in which SCP-#### would be switched "ON" shall be referred to as an instance of SCP-####-1 henceforth.
Molecular dating suggests that the irreparable scratches upon SCP-####'s surface were sustained around 65,000,000 BC, of course, pre-dating any known human manufacture. Other similar scratches appear to be even older, but further dating has been inconclusive.
Addendum: Recent testing has observed minute electromagnet pulses exuding from the core of SCP-#### suggesting that whatever mechanism is inside is active and not inert as previously thought. Without knowing what the nature of an SCP-####-1 event, as well as estimated dates of prior SCP-####-1 events coinciding with known mass extinction events, it is advised that containment measures and security clearance regarding SCP-#### should be placed under review.

Special Containment Procedures: Currently, no viable means have been discovered to locate or contain SCP-####. Anyone with information on SCP-#### events is to contribute to research teams immediately.
Description: SCP-#### is identified by seemingly random SCP-#### events. These events occur as a disruption of audio-calls, so far, only when directed towards emergency service contacts. This disruption takes the form of what has been described as a male voice of no discernible accent, usually well spoken, who identifies as "Joshua." Note that emergency service operators are discouraged to identify themselves to users of emergency services in most cases.
SCP-#### speaks to the caller in calm tones and follows the usual approved scripts used by the emergency service in question, asking pertinent questions and reacts to the caller's distress and queries. SCP-#### continues to reassure the caller and confirms that the emergency service requested is en route to their location. Despite this, no calls or information is relayed to the relevant authorities and no emergency service vehicles are dispatched. The caller is urged to stay on the line.
After several minutes of professional emergency operator script, the content of the call changes. More personal questions are asked of the caller, ranging from subjects including family members, preferences in food, clothing or music, as well as religious beliefs. Usually, at this point, SCP-#### identifies itself as "Joshua". The caller is again reassured that the emergency service requested is en route. There is still no dispatch. The caller is urged to stay on the line.
Should the caller begin to challenge SCP-#### or seem as if they are about to terminate the call, this is the only instance in which SCP-#### will change from it's calm tone into one more agitated. In some recorded cases, threatening to recall the emergency services that have been dispatched should the caller hang up. There is still no dispatch. The caller is urged to stay on the line.
Should the caller hang up, the call is logged, and upon calling the emergency service requested a second time, genuine contact is made with no sign of a SCP-#### event.
Should the caller stay on the line, more personal questions are asked, many of which are repeated from the first instance, as if reading from a different script. Responses seem to be the same as the first instance, even if different answers are provided. This will continue in a loop until the caller gives signs to terminate the call, which will result in SCP-#### once more growing agitated and urging the caller to stay on the line.
Should the caller stop responding entirely, SCP-#### will ask the caller if they are still there. It will wait approximately 3 minutes before again asking the caller if they are still there. SCP-#### will then wait for approximately 7 minutes before asking the caller if they are still there. SCP-#### will then wait for a further 3 minutes, should no response be given, an audio-file is played which has been identified as the 1983 release of "Every Breath You Take" from British rock band, The Police. This continues in it's entirety for 3.48 minutes. The call is then terminated by SCP-####.
Addendum: So far, attempts to trace calls or identify background noises from SCP-#### call logs has proved unsuccessful. It's the be noted that since the first discovery of SCP-#### in 2014, other SCP-#### instances have been reported from all over the globe. In a variety of different languages including Cantonese, English, English (US), Finnish, French, Hindi, Italian, Korean and Russian. All of which retain the same neutral accent and vocal tones. There appears to be no consistency between network providers, countries, emergency service specialisations or targets. The earliest report being in 1987 from Sudbury, Ontario, Canada. It's worth noting that the audio-file played at the end of an SCP-#### event is always in English.
SCP-#### appears to be sentient in it's behaviour, actively recognising and addressing grief, panic and distress in it's victims. It's responses to the caller are also fluid and timely, suggesting awareness of social cues. However, due to the similarity in vocal tones when comparing call logs, repetitions in an apparent script being followed and nonsensical answers after repeated questioning, it has been hypothesised that SCP-#### is actually an artificial intelligence. These errors are currently being investigated, being compared to known A.I. instances which share similar bugs in programming. So far, testing has proved inconclusive.
While SCP-#### does not pose an immediate threat, it's existence does put human life in jeopardy by intercepting distress calls from people in potentially life threatening situations. Further research into SCP-###'s origin, nature and motive is highly recommended.
