Item #: SCP-7127
Object Class: Keter
Special Containment Procedures:
SCP-7127's base files are kept inside a blue, unmarked flash drive and plugged into a small laptop developed no more recent than 2005. The flash drive must have no more or less than 30 megabytes of space used. The laptop must contain no other files and must not have an internet connection. Guards must check once every 6 hours to ensure that there is no discrepancy in this number. The laptop must be kept inside a standard containment room on a metal desk at site 84-B, and the battery must be removed at all times except for checking SCP-7127's files. Computerized devices are prohibited within 15 meters of the containment chamber. This threshold must be clearly marked and all personnel made aware of this. After incident 219, all wireless and internet networks must be wired to avoid this threshold. Two guards must be stationed in front of the door to SCP-7217's containment chamber at all times. Four guards must be stationed inside SCP-7217's containment chamber. Guards must not carry any computerized devices on their person. Messages are to be delivered through this threshold by Class D personnel.
Description:
SCP-7217 is a computer virus of unknown origin. It consists of various data files, and two application files. All text is written in a language not recognized in recorded human history, leading researchers to suspect the potential of alien origin. SCP-7217 is reported to demonstrate highly creative problem-solving techniques, as well as the ability to bypass firewalls, antiviruses, and bot-detection software, leading researchers to conclude that while it may not technically be alive, it has enough intelligence and creativity to be classified as sentient. The entity possesses the ability to infiltrate and subsequently take over any computerized devices it encounters within a 5-meter radius. Complete takeover of a device takes about 5-10 minutes. Signs of takeover include the device acting of its own accord, text changing to the same language as on its base files, and an extra 30 megabytes of storage being used by an unknown program. Once total takeover of the device has been achieved, SCP-7217 will attempt to use all means at its disposal to kill as many people as it can. The entity can only control one device at a time. However, if the device has a connection to the internet, it can use that to broaden its access to other devices. Removal of a controlled device's battery will cause The entity to become dormant, and if there are no other files on a device, it will essentially become stranded so long as it is not within range of any other devices. Initially it was speculated that SCP-7217 kills out of an animalistic feeling of fear. However, this was amended by Dr. ███████ after careful study of incident 219. SCP-7127 was first discovered in █████████, Denmark on ██/██/████. It was then moved to Site 25-A. After incident 219, it was moved to Site 81-B. It has currently caused ███,███ fatalities.
Addenum:
Site 25A incident, ██/██/██11.
At about 4:45 a.m., Site 25-A's core system reportedly suffered a glitch, which caused a five-minute facility-wide loss of power. Approximately thirty minutes later, the system spontaneously initiated complete facility lockdown. Automated defenses were activated following this, and the on-site nuclear warhead was detonated at approximately 5:27 a.m. Recovery of Site 25-A security footage reports that automated defenses opened fire on personnel. All present personnel, including Director ███████. Additionally, all anomalous entities contained at Site 25-A were reported terminated or missing, and presently no entities have been recovered. Monitoring of data reports an increase of used storage in Site 25-A's main computer by exactly 30 megabytes, confirming this incident to be caused by SCP-7127.
