Item #: SCP-XXX
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: Not needed, due to the nature of SCP-XXX. High security safekeeping is only required because of its value and prevention of theft.
Description: SCP-XXX is a pair of perfectly round, metal globes, SCP-XXX-1 and SCP-XXX-2, connected by a thin, rigid metal cable. All of these components appear to be composed entirely of spiegeleisen, although their weight suggests that they are neither entirely solid, nor completely hollow. The sounds made by knocking at their surface varyingly hint at hollowness or solidity, depending on the exact location knocked.
SCP-XXX-2 has a radius exactly matching the value of Pi, down to smallest measureable decimal. The radius of SCP-XXX-1 is Pi raised to the power of Pi, again with exact precision down to smallest measureable decimal. The length of the cable is also the value of Pi, only this time in meters.
When not interacted with, SCP-XXX is entirely inert. On no occassion has it been observed to activate or deactivate on its own.
SCP-XXX can be activated simply by touching the outer half of SCP-XXX-2 (the half facing away from SCP-XXX-1). Upon activation, a perfectly reflective sphere, SCP-XXX-3, instantenously appears around SCP-XXX-1, stretching exactly to the middle point of SCP-XXX-2.
SCP-XXX-3 is entirely solid and 100% reflective. Tests confirmed that it does not absorb even the smallest amount of light or any other radiation directed at it. It also appears to be entirely impervious to any physical force. Not even industrial diamond drills were able to penetrate it. Curiously, the drills themselves were not damaged, blunted or worn in any way by these attempts either, as if they hadn't touched anything at all. There seemed to be no friction, as heat was not generated either.
If the outer half of SCP-XXX-2 is touched again, SCP-XXX-3 immediately vanishes without any trace. Any objects that were within the radius of SCP-XXX-3 prior to activation are found unharmed and unchanged, in the same position where they were. This applies even to objects that were in motion at the time of activation of SCP-XXX-3. After deactivation, they resume their movement unhindered, with the same speed, acceleration and direction as before, as if nothing had happened.
Tests conducted with living organisms (in successive order: plants, various smaller and larger animals, and finally, D-class personnel) inside the radius show that SCP-XXX-3 is perfectly harmless. The D-class personnel involved did not even notice that anything had happened at all. As SCP-XXX-3 was deactivated and the researches invited them out, they expressed surprise and slight confusion on being sent in and then "immediately" (from their perspective) called back. They had this same perception even if SCP-XXX-3 was in fact active for hours or even days on end. Analog watches as well as digital timekeeping devices held by the subjects also showed the same date and time after deactivation of SCP-XXX-3 as before, regardless of how long they were inside. Afterwards, they resumed normal functioning.
Based on the above, it is theorized that SCP-XXX-3 is in fact a stasis field generated by SCP-XXX-1, suspending any and all movement within its boundaries, possibly down to the subatomic level. The perceived solidity and reflective quality of SCP-XXX-3 can be explained as a direct consequence of this effect, as it only seems to apply to anything that was within its boundaries before activation, but not to anything that tries to get in afterwards. For those, SCP-XXX-3 is an apparently impenetrable barrier.
