When personnel must enter SCP-173's container, no fewer than 3 may enter at any time and the door is to be relocked behind them. At all times, two persons must be looking at SCP-173 until all personnel have vacated and relocked the container.

Description: Moved to Site19 in 1993 little is known about SCP-173's origins. It is constructed from concrete and rebar and was once painted with Crylon brand spraypaint.

SCP-173 is animate and malevolent, if given the chance it will kill anyone within its line of sight. It is able to cover at least 2 meters in the literal blink of an eye, however it does not move while being watched. It typically kills by either snapping the victim's neck from behind, or grabbing the victim's throat and strangling them. Whatever animates SCP-173 does not give it much force with which to break things; a large room with unbarred windows is fully capable of containing it. However when it is not moving the statue is hard and strong as concrete, making its grip unbreakable.

While left alone in its room, one can hear a stone-on-stone scraping from within that is believed to be the sound of SCP-173 moving about.

The reddish brown substance on the floor is a combination of feces and blood. SCP-173's container slowly fills with these substances. In order to ensure that bacterial growth within does not begin to damage the building it is contained in, and to maintain sanitation, the enclosure must be cleaned on a bi-weekly basis.

Got an update for you. Ladybug is cornered. I'm not actually certain what happened, but his dead man's are loose. Gave me a kick in the metaphorical rear just as a notification, though it didn't leave me anything I could use. Hoping you've figured something.

Of course, he also left a dead letter for each of us, but I intercepted the one meant for you. Sorry about that. The switch was hooked to outdated storage, which is why - and how - I'm sending this letter to you in the first place. Ladybug's letter is in gamma-pe-sulfur. I promise I didn't look, despite myself.

Doubt he's actually been taken though. You see, as soon as his pulse stopped, the whole package started crawling out. But there's no revolution, as you can probably figure. The collectors edited their own reports to make the ones we have look worse, and they put our (their?) package into a public front. What we have is already useless, and what they put out is all lies. From what I can tell, the front went up in record time and Ladybug went dark soon after. Seems they care more about keeping their club secret than the actual collecting, so maybe L.bug figured the same and just got spooked.

Adding in what Beetle said, we should be endangered together. But we've been free, which doesn't line up. So the current weather doesn't feel like L.bug's been captured, and our tree is completely intact, not even a mark on it. I figure we should be fine to move as normal.

Revealing the collectors themselves might take some time. Of course, their front is a massive side-of-a-barn sized target, but it's waterproof. The foundation it's on isn't paved though, so we should be able to dig in. I'll save the details for later, as agreed. Make some plans for if L.bug doesn't show.

Earlier this week, I told you about those weird burrows. Well, turns out some of them hold Weird ratties that can not only move through our tunnels, but through, around, and over them too. I got found an Hour after I laid my trap out for them, so they're smarter than the usual pests.

Lousy rats followed my trail home, too. I'm sure a certain someone will make some off-color jokes about how his motion cameras lit up harder than our take on Christmas. Anyway, I'm being sheltered inside a really messy room right now while waiting for the rats to lose interest. Like, you won't believe how scattered and Disorderly everything is, here. It's like that feeling where somebody just lives in their own Mess and knows where everything is. Except here it's one person making the mess and everybody else having to live in the stuff. It's hard to get to know my Roommates. Good news is, this place is pest-proof.

Pines are otherwise doing well, despite the little weirdos scurrying around. Although technically they've been here longer than we have, just that we've only now seen them. Anyway, my trees are in great health, last I saw them. I won't be free to check on them again for a while. I appreciate all the Roses you sent me, by the way!

Pashur Zabur flipped his access card around before sliding it back into his jeans. He dropped off his bag at his desk, hit the power switch on his Dell desktop, and walked off to the washroom. He'd been working here for more than four years now, and had gone through the same routine for just as long. Although, today, he did not get any coffee from the office dispenser. Someone had brought in a box of tea packets yesterday. The change was well welcomed.

On the way back to his desk, Pashur walked past a new face in the research department. Every now and again there would be fresh faces among the full-time old farts. The newcomers were welcome, too. In fact, any small changes were always quite welcome. Just to break up the routine.

Okay, maybe not all the small changes. Small changes to my pay aren't so exciting, Pashur thought. The yearly raise was not nearly as fast as his wallet would like. Although, to be fair, it was already a respectable amount. Not to mention that the "research" itself was quite lenient. To top it off, this was probably the most stable job in the world. Probably. Maybe he shouldn't be complaining so much.

Pashur's desktop finally finished booting up, and an unfamiliar icon on his desktop grabbed his attention. In a small moment of clarity, Pashur remembered that he had yet to submit yesterday's experiment log. And that he had put this file in the middle of his desktop to remind his future self. He opened the document.

Purpose: Further understanding of item and attempt to generate mass.

Methods: D-510832 was instructed to interfere with the conversation and to retrieve any loose items from the area.

Results: SCP-3907-2 stood up when their chair was taken, did not react to being superficially attacked, and did not react to being stripped of clothing. All retrieved materials disappeared upon end of event.

That was worth a shot, Pashur thought. If any of these skips had the potential to generate mass on an industrial scale, and without side effects, Pashur planned to leverage it. Redirect it. Food would be alright, but he planned to mass produce entire buildings, Sites.

And the recognition would get me a raise. Pashur submitted the document, and his mind immediately began to wander. He spun around idly in his chair, eyes skipping about the walls. As always, the big three-pronged logo was prominent on the otherwise blank hallway.

So foolish. To CONTAIN something without understanding it, not testing every capability. The way things were going, the Foundation would one day be faced with something impossible to SECURE. Maybe many somethings. That they would need more than concrete, chemicals, and soldiers to survive. More than their precious secret Thaumiels.

And yet, they would not prepare for the inevitable. Because that would go against their precious PROTECT. A message that was drilled into every member of staff who even got close to seeing an anomalous item.

"We protect the public, not from the dangerous items themselves, but from the fear that would permeate our world should they ever become aware of the anomalous. Giving the rest of the world a life of normalcy is the reason for the Foundation's existence."

Pathetic. Absurd. Setting themselves up for a world-shattering defeat.

No such thing as perfect security. It would be far safer to slowly leak it, get everyone used to the stuff. Of course, that would allow more power-mad fools to run about, but it would still mitigate any fallout.

That was Pashur's take on the matter. But he would never so much as hint at these ideas, much less discuss them. Because at the end of the day, he was not here to better the world. More accurately, he had no reason to risk his comfy office job, one where the daily schedule is a funhouse of, let's see… on today's menu, we have anomalous bees, toymakers, and jellyfish! All of them open for Pashur to mess with in the name of testing. With days like these, he had no reason to risk his neck over company morals.

Although, just hypothetically, he most certainly could work from the inside. He could make anomaly-based tools that the Foundation itself could not resist. He could erode their flimsy sense of justice until even the most gullible juniors became swamped in hypocrisy. Pashur had been around long enough to bubble up some ideas.

Nah, they would probably fire me first. Pashur shook his head clear and spun his chair back around to face his monitor. I would like more pay, though. Or at least a bonus. He started reading the first item on his list.

Several more years would pass before Pashur's prophecy came true and the world was irreversibly turned on its head. Within those years, there would be several hundred sacrificed to approved rituals, dozens of timeline rewrites, and Pashur's Site Director would change. But until that time…

Oh, I forgot to get the tea. Pashur got up and walked towards the kitchen. Two old colleagues were already there, chatting over drinks.

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be kept on a strict 6:4 ratio of rest to moderate activity on a daily basis. left undisturbed. All potential disturbances are to be preemptively suppressed. Feeding is to be provided as necessary for a normal B. torquatus unnecessary. SCP-XXXX is considered self-contained.

Should SCP-XXXX be primed, it is to be awoken as soon as possible by an ice cube remotely applied to its forehead. The controls are to be operated by D-Class personnel with minimal oversight from Level 2 or higher staff. SCP-XXXX is primed and must not be awoken. All Foundation staff working on or nearby extradimensional travel must be familiar with the identification marks applied to SCP-XXXX's fur and explicitly ordered to not awaken SCP-XXXX if given any opportunity.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a maned sloth (B. torquatus). If SCP-XXXX is allowed to fall asleep, it will remain asleep indefinitely until disturbed. Recovery Log: SCP-XXXX was recovered on 1982/10/24 from São Paulo Zoo, Brazil. Zookeepers had reported the zoo's layout changing overnight, coinciding with one zookeeper's disappearance. Certain enclosures were reportedly sealed off with solid stone. Foundation Agents took over the investigation and extracted the stones. Various human parts with matching genetics were found in all recovered stones.

Through extended observation of multiple suspects, SCP-XXXX and XXXX-Sowilo events were identified, leading to containment. It is theorized that the initial event was caused by the zookeeper inciting an elephant to trumpet, which awoke SCP-XXXX from a primed state.

A cover story of kidnapping and drug trafficking was released for the Brazilian public. The zookeepers were additionally told SCP-XXXX had contracted a rare disease and had been taken to an overseas hospital for treatment and research.

SCP-XXXX likely did not have many opportunities to become primed while out in the wild. As such, it is possible that more instances of SCP-XXXX exist, though undiscovered, and are currently being displaced by deforestation. Potential areas of SCP-XXXX priming have been marked as ASRS-5s6r Heightened Surveillance. Surveillance cancelled due to lack of results and information from XXXX-I1 interview.

Addendum 1: A XXXX-Sowilo event on 1986/05/10 compromised the 7 closest Foundation personnel, comprised of two guards, three researchers, one D-Class, and one janitor. Hallway cameras show these personnel suddenly stop in their activities before lining up side-by-side outside SCP-XXXX's containment chamber. SCP-XXXX-1 are standing upright but show little movements other than in their eyes, which dart about inconsistently before refocusing on Researcher Klein. All responses from SCP-XXXX-1 are preceded by at least 2 seconds of silence. Pauses longer than 2 seconds are noted in transcription.

Closing Statement: Nearby guards called for reinforcements and medical attention. All SCP-XXXX-1 were found to be in comas. SCP-XXXX-1 instances do not respond to any stimuli.

Edit: There has been no change to the comas of SCP-XXXX-1 for six months. As per the Anomalous Health Contribution Agreement, Section 5 "Indefinite Incapacitation", SCP-XXXX-1 will be used for studying anomalous health conditions.

Addendum 2: Following the latest XXXX-Sowilo event, SCP-XXXX has escaped containment. The Spatial Anomalies Department detected traces of extradimensional movement and believes SCP-XXXX has shifted to another dimension.

If SCP-XXXX is ever re-encountered, it is not to be disturbed in any way. Without the presence of SCP-XXXX, it is possible that the resulting XXXX-Sowilo event may affect a wide area in our home dimension, with potential for an ?K-Class indeterminate change scenario. Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX are to be kept in airtight isolation chambers made of concrete. The chambers must only be accessible by airlock. No more than 300 SCP-XXXX may be within one containment chamber at a time. Harmless insects may be introduced to SCP-XXXX containments as food.

Any personnel entering SCP-XXXX's containment chamber must wear a gas mask and a full-body, skintight, incision-resistant weighted suit. Personnel must also weigh no less than the population of SCP-XXXX divided by 6, in kilograms, including the suit. Carrying heavy objects is not a suitable substitute for meeting the weight requirement. Any personnel exiting the containment chamber must be thoroughly showered with at least 50°C water while within the airlock. SCP-XXXX's chambers must be cleaned and inspected for damage on a weekly basis.

Description: SCP-XXXX is the collective designation for a species of insects resembling Mantidae (praying mantises). SCP-XXXX physically differ from Mantidae by their forelegs, which are tipped with bur-like tibia rather than grasping endings. These tips are slightly sticky and firmly attach to most solids. SCP-XXXX's anomalous nature is focused on these tips, and SCP-XXXX bodies are otherwise non-anomalous. SCP-XXXX are capable of flight.

SCP-XXXX have different behaviour patterns than Mantidae. Upon surrounding large¹ prey, a swarm will rush towards the target, firmly attach themselves, and bite at available surfaces. Swarms cease aggression once the prey is killed or after 10 minutes of unsuccessful attacks. SCP-XXXX swarms will remain attached to their target and can be removed by hand. If not manually removed, specimens will detach themselves after 1 to 5 minutes. Up to 70% of specimens participate in each swarm, suggesting colony preservation instincts.

SCP-XXXX-1 is an extradimensional space instinctively utilized by SCP-XXXX. SCP-XXXX's forearms partially exist within SCP-XXXX-1, and enable travel to and from SCP-XXXX-1. Each individual SCP-XXXX can shift up to 119 grams to SCP-XXXX-1 at a time. If any part of a shifted item remains within our dimension, the entire item will return. However, if an entire object is shifted, it will remain within SCP-XXXX-1.

Observations have revealed the following SCP-XXXX behaviours utilizing SCP-XXXX-1:

• 'Pulling' themselves at least partially into SCP-XXXX-1. SCP-XXXX regularly hide most of their body, leaving one forearm as a terrestrial anchor and one eye for observation. This behaviour is utilized in hunting, camouflage, and self-transport.
• 'Pushing' other SCP-XXXX specimens into SCP-XXXX-1 during mating contests.
• Hiding eggs.
• Hiding themselves on swarmed targets, presumably as a means of transport.
• Temporarily 'pushing' parts of live prey, disorienting them.
• Capturing several unidentified organisms that quickly asphyxiated when exposed to oxygen, and were subsequently consumed.

SCP-XXXX-1 has hostile atmospheric conditions. Exploration is discouraged.

Recovery: SCP-XXXX samples were first recovered on 1984/01/14 from Jiangxi, China. SCP-XXXX colonies are fully integrated into tropic biomes worldwide, making full containment costly and unreasonable. Instead, Foundation infocrawlers have been set to search for Mantis collections in addition to standard wildlife disturbance patterns. Any outbreaks are to be suppressed or exterminated. Foundation analysts estimate 8% of missing children cases located nearby tropical forests can be attributed to SCP-XXXX swarms.

Details: 2 forearms have been extracted and attached to a clipboard. Moving this clipboard makes sections go in and out of SCP-XXXX-1, with the effects radially focused around the attached forearms. This effect continues even when the clipboard is left alone, but the 'pulsing' is markedly slower.

'Insides' of the clipboard are grainy and dark. Tapping the 'insides' causes a puff of dark substance to be released, but the substance disappears within seconds. The amount of substance released increases with the force applied. Force is transmitted to the rest of the clipboard as normal, but no sound is made.

Details: Researcher Feathers' extraction forceps were pushed to SCP-XXXX-1 during operation. This was caused by SCP-XXXX specimens flailing and striking Researcher Feathers' tools during forearm extraction. D-Class have been assigned to extract and manipulate forearms.

Details: Specimen of SCP-XXXX was coerced into 'pushing' a microcamera with live wired feed and LED attachments. This was intended to capture some images of the SCP-XXXX dimensions. Upon separation from the specimen, the camera immediately returned to our dimension.

Details: 2 forearms were attached to camera and insertion was successful. Images are grainy and dark despite camera's close proximity to LED. Visuals consistent with clipboard's effects from prior test. The dark substance has been registered as SCP-XXXX-2.

Details: 24 forearms have been distributed evenly over one half of a steel rod. Up to 80cm of the rod entered SCP-XXXX-1, with no anomalous effects to the wielder. The rod constantly changes weight and center of gravity consistent with how much of the rod is within our dimension.

A small puff of SCP-XXXX-2 appears with every swing, but quickly dissipates. It is difficult to swing the rod at high speeds, with remarkably less resistance at low speeds. This may imply some form of resistance to large movements, which would make this dimension extremely efficient at containing large items.

Details: A large right-handed glove was covered with SCP-XXXX forearms. D-045626 was instructed to equip the glove while taking care to minimize extraneous movement. Upon fully equipping the glove, the glove entered SCP-XXXX-1 along with D-045626's hand.

D-045626 began to panic, which resulted in the majority of his arm up to his right clavicle entering SCP-XXXX-1. D-045626 ignored instructions to keep the glove on and removed it while most of his arm remained within SCP-XXXX-1.

The glove was lost; D-045626's arm immediately returned to our dimension, followed by a large cloud of SCP-XXXX-2. The SCP-XXXX-2 filled the testing chamber, blocking all visual contact. SCP-XXXX-2 cloud completely dissipated within 10s. D-045626's vital functions were found to have stopped within this time. Postmortem analysis revealed no injuries or foreign substances.

Feathers: Pashur, weren't you given new assignments a while ago? I recall the Director marking this item as closed.

Zabur: I've been working on it as my free-choice project. It's an entire containment dimension, we just need to tame its keys. Did you check that model I sent you?

Feathers: That's why this item's closed. We don't use items to contain others, not on any regular basis. We didn't even confirm if the -1 environment is safe, we only ever saw darkness.

Zabur: I checked it in my own tests. The -2 is an immediate and lethal poison to anything that breathes, but I have days of footage showing no activity in the -1. Just humour me for this meeting and I'll change your mind. Metaphorically change. Did you check the model?

Feathers: Yeah. Saul checked it as well, the estimations match with what we have on record.

Zabur: That means the mantises are- I mean, the XXXXs are only using up to 70% of their potential mass-shifting capability. First off, we need to update the containment, reduce how many we're keeping.

Feathers: Already done, and I've scheduled enough extractions to cull the population. About your model, Saul has something to point out about the weight calculations.

Klein nods, and points to his notes.

Klein: Your model explains that we won't ever see the maximum of 170 grams per XXXX. But this applied calculation doesn't take into account its own weight. Like how you need rocket fuel to transport more rocket fuel. Your examples didn't mention any of that.

Zabur: Oh, my bad. I didn't define the notation here. So, I have to first mention that the β₁ won't be stable at that ratio. You see here in the model I was using β₁ which means the first iteration of juice that didn't just disappear on me. But down here in the applied calculation I was using β_Li. That's the juice mixed with lithium shavings. The stuff works wonders. You see, before, the instability with transfers was why we had that big powder bomb with the gloved D-Class. It's-

Feathers: The -2 blowback with D-045626.

Zabur: Yeah. That was because we didn't give it enough juice to hold his arm in the first place, and he managed to get part of his torso in there, so the blowback was way bigger. Nowadays, I'm working with the β_Li. I'll add some notes to the documentation so it's not as confusing. Did you find anything else?

Klein: No, that's all I caught.

Zabur: Good, because I've started working on some practical uses based on this model. My initial idea was to leverage the blowback effect, push more into -1 than we've given it glue-juice for. The resulting -2 could fill anywhere from a room to a whole floor.

Klein: Whoa, wait wait wait, you want to make processed XXXX into weapons? Production rates aside, does the -2 even affect other items?

Feathers: In large enough quantities, it stops just about everything that can't dimension-hop, anomalous or not. But Pashur, you'd need a payload to make a blowback, which would be either too unstable or too heavy to carry around as a weapon.

Zabur: I was more thinking of promoting the -2 as an emergency bulkhead, but I didn't think it would get a green light for production anyway. Considering that it's a deadly poison, I mean. Anyway, I still have one more idea, you'll like this one.

Feathers: Let's hear it.

Zabur lifts a metal brick with great effort, places the brick on the center of the meeting table, and completes a circuit on the top. A third of the table enters SCP-XXXX-1. The brick does not move from its initial position, appearing to float.

Klein: … This isn't going to blow up on us, right?

Zabur: Nope! It's a stable shift, made possible by the mass difference between the void-brick and the table. You can pass right through it, too.

Zabur drops some stationery through the hole, and proceeds to wave his arm through where the table should be.

Zabur: Don't touch it directly. Both the table and my brick, don't touch them. I haven't tested that yet.

Klein: … You're certain it won't blow up?

Zabur: It's only set to 15%. I left it on for an hour yesterday, at 60%. It was in a testing chamber, I sat in observation, and I had a guard posted outside so nobody barged in. No fluctuations. Plus, it has a winding down mode so the blowback is spread out. You can just barely notice the dust cloud during wind-down, if you pay attention.

Feathers: So that implies it'll still blow if your "void-brick" gets lifted up.

Zabur: I can stop that from happening. An artificial mass stopgap. It'll also stop my void-brick from shifting itself, giving it the time to wind down. But besides this, I have another idea that will get us enough-

Feathers: Save it for after you turn this damn brick off.

SCP-XXXX-2 is a dark, grainy substance omnipresent within SCP-XXXX-1. Objects returning from SCP-XXXX-1 are accompanied by SCP-XXXX-2, with the amount of SCP-XXXX-2 being exponentionally proportionate to the mass returned. SCP-XXXX-2 quickly dissipates while in our home dimension, presumably returning to SCP-XXXX-1.

SCP-XXXX-2 absorbs momentum in a greater-than-one ratio, moving towards momentum transfers rather than being repulsed². This can be overcome with sufficient force, and is perceived as a light resistance for small amounts of SCP-XXXX-2. However, the abundant SCP-XXXX-2 within SCP-XXXX-1 absorbs nearly all movement when surrounding any object, which effectively results in full physical containment. As an effect of absorbing momentum, SCP-XXXX-2 stops vital functions if significant amounts are inhaled.

On 1992/03/28, the Spatial Anomalies Department activated 2 permanent Deprivation Environment Boundaries. Each DEB is capable of storing, indefinitely holding, and retrieving up to 20kg of specified matter in SCP-XXXX-1. DEBs holding matter can be slowly pulled. Special training is mandatory before any interaction with a DEB.

The 2 permanent DEBs currently store SCP-1381 and SCP-1574, effectively making them Safe and Euclid respectively. It is estimated that over 450 Euclid-class can be stored in their entirety within DEBs. This would significantly lower maintenance costs, provide an extra layer of containment security, and reclassify many of them as Safe. A small population of SCP-XXXX has been sent to nearby sites for independent production.

Any request for storing sentient items must be approved by the Ethics Committee due to concerns over sensory deprivation. Development towards DEBs for field use will continue at Site-██.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a portable chemical toilet of standard make. SCP-XXXX is equipped with unmarked one-ply toilet paper which refills upon activation of the primary anomalous property. SCP-XXXX was recovered from a concert venue on 2008/02/14 at New York, Central Park. The occupant had reportedly been inside SCP-XXXX "since the concert last night", and the venue called local authorities for assistance in extracting the occupant.

SCP-XXXX's primary anomalous property applies any human occupant that defecates inside. Once the human occupant, hereby referred to as SCP-XXXX-1, finishes defecating, SCP-XXXX's anomalous effects start to take effect. SCP-XXXX-1 will repeatedly attempt to wipe excess feces off their anal region, occasionally making visual checks after a wipe. However, each wipe produces a small amount of additional feces, prompting SCP-XXXX-1 to continue wiping. After a period of time between 3-5 minutes, this effect will fade. However, upon seeing a wipe that SCP-XXXX-1 accepts as clean, SCP-XXXX-1 will suddenly feel a new urge to defecate, and the primary effect of SCP-XXXX restarts.

After an indeterminate amount of time performing the primary event, SCP-XXXX-1 will dissapear from SCP-XXXX, and SCP-XXXX will unlock. Exactly 60 hours later, SCP-XXXX-1 will reappear in a familiar sleeping location, and subsequently awaken. At this point, SCP-XXXX's effects are considered to have ended. SCP-XXXX-1 will exhibit extreme dehydration and often cannot move without assistance. Although rehydration is recommended, SCP-XXXX-1 displays no signs of hunger despite the time elapsed.
