Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Safe Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be kept in a 30cm by 30cm plot containing loose, rocky soil within the high desert garden wing of the site-65 botanical research center. SCP-XXXX is to be lightly watered once weekly. Foundation personnel are free to observe SCP-XXXX at their leisure during normal operating hours. Addendum: Following the events of ██/██/██11, special containment procedures are to be taken in the event of a total solar or lunar eclipse. These procedures have been designated “Protocol XXXX-S” and “Protocol XXXX-L,” respectively.

> Protocol XXXX-S: In the event of a total solar eclipse, the site-65 high desert wing is to be locked for foundation personnel with security clearance level 2 and lower with the exception of individuals involved in experiments pre-approved by a site-65 senior researcher. Personnel interested in viewing SCP-XXXX as it blooms may do so through a special viewing window installed on a wall adjacent to the entity. Procedures are to be followed as above for the duration of the eclipse.

> Protocol XXXX-L: In the event of a total lunar eclipse, access to the site-65 botanical research center is to be denied to any personnel with security clearance 3 or lower. D-class subjects of pre-approved experiments are to be admitted to the high desert wing, along with any necessary equipment, prior to the implementation of Protocol XXXX-L, no less than 30 minutes before the onset of the eclipse. The high desert wing ventilation system is to be sealed for the duration of Protocol XXXX-L, and air quality is to be monitored for any increase in anomalous material. Protocol XXXX-L is to be in effect for no less than 8 hours after the conclusion of an eclipse, after which site operations may be returned to normal.

Any personnel or subject exposed to SCP-XXXX during Protocol XXX-L is to be immediately transported to site-65 quarantine following end of Protocols and monitored until new instances of SCP-XXXX can be located and removed and suicidal thoughts subside.

Description: SCP-XXXX’s discovery in ██/██/██10 is the result of an archaeological excavation of what is believed to be a sacred site of the [DATA EXPUNGED] culture in ████, Peru. Foundation personnel were made aware of a possible anomalous entity when archaeologist Dr. [REDACTED] mentioned a unique cactus on the site that bloomed only very briefly during a total solar eclipse to an undercover foundation agent. Instances of SCP-XXXX are members of a subspecies of Rebutia Marsoneri or “Crown Cactus” traditionally native to Argentina. There are currently 4 instances of SCP-XXXX in containment.

Instances of SCP-XXXX are vaguely spherical and range in size from 1.4cm diameter to 7cm in diameter. Instances of SCP-XXXX closely resemble their non-anomalous counterparts with the exception of modified spines extending down the length of a central root; spines located on the root system are noted to be hollow with a needle-like hole on each tip. Instances of SCP-XXXX have between 4 to 8 flower stems, the blooming of which has been observed to correspond to various alignments of celestial bodies. Due to the brevity of blooms it is unknown how SCP-XXXX reproduces. The color of these flowers has been observed to vary between blooms; research is ongoing as to the potential connection between color of bloom and celestial bodies involved in the relevant syzygy.

Addendum XXXX-1: On ██/██/██11, an event occurred (hereby referred to as incident XXXX.10) resulting in the immediate quarantine of site-65, and ultimately in the implementation of new containment procedures and classification for SCP-XXXX.

At 07:13 A.M., foundation custodial staff discovered the body of a Dr. Brian ████, a juvenile instance of SCP-XXXX protruding from [DATA EXPUNGED]. On-site staff was immediately evacuated and sent to nearby site-112 quarantine for observation until a cause of death was determined. Security footage later confirmed Dr. ████’s death a suicide via [REDACTED] and autopsy reports detailed high concentrations of pollen matching that taken from SCP-XXXX lining his respiratory organs. Further investigation yielded that on the night of ██/██/██11, eight days before incident XXXX.10, all instances of SCP-XXXX bloomed for approximately 5-8minutes, ejecting large volumes of pollen into the surrounding environment. This night is confirmed to have been the first total lunar eclipse since the acquisition of SCP-XXXX, and security records indicate Dr. ████ was the only individual on site-65 premises at the time of the bloom.
