Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Keter Neutralized

Special Containment Procedures: As of successful enaction of Contingency Plan Lovelace-4 in 10/12/2016, SCP-XXXX is considered Neutralized. Further efforts should be directed at reparation of financial damages caused by SCP-XXXX and Contingency Plan Lovelace-4; mainly the reacquisition of Foundation front corporations and business associates acquired by Marshall, Carter & Dark LLC., and urgent reinstation of containment and research funding of several Keter-class SCPs whose containment is of utmost importance.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a software module, believed to be authored by TotleighSoft and distributed by Marshall, Carter & Dark, LLP. When integrated into a software program, SCP-XXXX provides basic anti-piracy measures, namely, denying users from using the program without a valid license obtained as defined by the software's author. However, unlike conventional anti-piracy modules, SCP-XXXX does not have any discernible user interface and instead utilizes anomalous memetic and antimemetic phenomena.

Users who do not possess a license1 obtained through official means report extreme mental discomfort and perceptional impairment while trying to use a program with SCP-XXXX integrated. Effects immediately disperse when the user leaves the vicinity, or when the program is shut down. Subjects report disruptive visual and auditory hallucinations on the software's licensing status and on how to acquire a license. Agents who have undergone M-Y Memetic Hardening training coupled with a high dosage of Class-S amnestics have limited resistance to the hallucinations produced by SCP-XXXX. However, the high dosage of Class-S amnestics administered leave the agents susceptible to antimemetic perception-altering effects, making it impossible to operate software protected by the module with any efficiency.

This effect is also present in any portion of source code of SCP-XXXX protected software, including SCP-XXXX itself. Attempting to view such source code results in the same effects2 noted above, even if a valid license is acquired beforehand. This property of SCP-XXXX makes it nearly impossible to be reverse-engineered by specialists, Foundation employed or otherwise.

SCP-XXXX was discovered during a Foundation raid to an MC&D exposition hosted at ██████, London, originally to retrieve SCP-████ before it could be activated. A reinforced aluminum briefcase was recovered by recon agents and later scanned for potentially hazardous contents. No hazardous content was detected. The briefcase's owner was identified as Richard █████3. The following items were found inside:

  • One (1) unmarked, unencrypted 256 GB USB thumb drive, containing a copy of SCP-XXXX and a software development kit suited for integrating it into existing source code, designated SCP-XXXX-1.
  • One (1) Samsung brand encrypted smartphone belonging to Richard █████, designated SCP-XXXX-2.
  • Five (5) unmarked flasks for oral consumption, filled with an unknown liquid4, designated SCP-XXXX-3.
  • One (1) A5 sheet of paper, containing printed notes regarding SCP-XXXX, designated SCP-XXXX-4.
