Item #: SCP-2857

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-2857 is to be kept in a remote area in the Antarctic ocean, away from any known landmasses at all within the region. Special security cameras from the foundation are to monitor the creature's activity 24/7 and to keep it from escaping its containment. Should SCP-2857 leave its containment location, Mobile Forces are permitted to use special projectile weapons at the creature to scare it back into its location. Mobile forces are to guide off any sea traffic in the ocean at all costs to prevent the entity from attacking and/or killing any individuals.

Description: SCP-2857 is a massive aquatic predator of unknown appearance. Its size is estimated to be 2.5x that of a Blue Whale, which is precisely 28 meters smaller than the ████████ ████. The creature is pitch black in color, making it extremely difficult and almost impossible to see its appearance (even with night vision cameras) due to the fact that its containment ocean is extremely dark. However, it has glowing red eyes that give off its presence. Studies show that SCP-2857 is able to coat itself with a thick layer of a mysterious black oily substance to reflect any rays of light, making it harder to identify its appearance. Further investigation shows that this mucus layer is a combination of SCP-2857's saliva and an unidentified black parasitic bacteria confirmed to be the same substance that covers SCP-███. Should subject ever make physical contact with this bacteria, it will spread very quickly on the subject, melting the victim in the process. This proves that SCP-2857 intentionally bumps into its prey, infecting subject with its bacterial saliva and after the subject has died from the infection, the creature eats the remains of the subject and disappears into the water, waiting for another victim to wander into its territory.

Addendum 2857-1: It is shown that SCP-2857's containment ocean gets brighter and clearer in some places, showing visible sea life in the otherwise pitch dark ocean due to the oily substance occasionally falling off SCP-2857. See Interview-2857-A-█ for details.

Addendum 2857-2: On ██/██/20██, one of the deep sea security cameras caught SCP-2857 swimming along, when suddenly it seemed to take awareness of the camera, and swam away quickly, probably to avoid the camera. About ██ minutes later, SCP-2857 came back full force towards the camera and opened its mouth before the camera feed abruptly ended in static while being devoured by SCP-2857. No remains were recovered from the incident, however it was confirmed that SCP-2893's mouth is not guarded by its pitch black oil coating. The creature's mouth is a dark shade of pink, and has a bright red snake tongue about 16 meters long. The entity also has precisely 3 rows of teeth, making it easy to eat subjects exposed to SCP-2857.

Note: "That's what the thing's mouth looks like? Maybe it's a snake? The tongue looked like a snake's tongue…? I don't know. At the very least we know that the thing could be some sort of reptile… Or amphibian? They produce a mucus-like substance on their body, so probably amphibian? But they'd drown in too much water…? -Dr. ████, 20██

Addendum 2857-3: Investigations show that the bottom of SCP-2857's ocean is riddled with skeletons that of whales, sharks, and other large sea creatures. The skeletons show traces of SCP-2893 bacteria, implying that these are the remains of animals eaten by SCP-2857.

Interview log 2857-A-█

foreword: D-████ was instructed to travel to the ocean SCP-2857 was currently being contained in in order to identify the creature's appearance. D-████ was equipped with an underwater flashlight to give off the presence of any sea life, heavily armored SCUBA gear, and a spear for use against SCP-2857 if necessary.

<Begin Log>
Dr. ████: Hello?… Can you hear me?
D-████: …Yup, I can hear ya… Damn.. (nervously chuckles) This ocean is a lot darker once you're underneath it.
Dr. ████: What is your current status?
D-████: I'm fine. Just kinda scared. Can't see shit in this here ocean. 'Fraid something might kinda jump at me… (about ██ minutes of conversation later, D-████ hits bottom.) OOF!… Ah think I just hit bottom… ah think… (turns on flashlight, armed with spear.) Woah! This place looks a lot weirder at bottom. Some kinda oil spill or somethin'.
Dr. ████: Please try to avoid contact with the "oil." Proceed.
D-████: I can't see much, even with this here flashlight… wait… the ocean gets a bit brighter to the side. Should I go check on it?
Dr. ████: You may proceed.
D-████: (Grunts while trying to move.) …hey… is that a blue whale? ah think it is. Why is there a blue whale here? 'ts all by itself… I should go there and check on it… Hey, is this thing soundproof?… I jus' don't want to sca- HOLY SHIT!!!
Dr. ████: D-████? Are you there? D-████, respond now!
D-████: (frantically breathing, then calms down.) …I'm fine. I'm fine. Damn, I think I jus' pissed myself.
Dr. ████: What did you see?
D-████: First, some weird red eyes were starin' at that whale, next thing I know, BOOM! Somethin' that looked like it came straight outta hell charged full force outta the darkness. Whatever that thing was, it chomped HARD into that whale. Those eyes… were demonic, to say the least.
Dr. ████: Did you catch what it looked like?
D-████: (sighs) Sadly, nope. That thing blended in perfectly with the darkness of this here ocean, and that oil lookin' stuff blocked the view.
Dr. ████: (disappointed) Damnit!
D-████: Sorry, even with this here flashlight I couldn-… wait… I think I see somethin'… wait… ah think it sees me oh lawd it's lookin' right at meh IT'S SWIMMING RIGHT TOWARDS ME OH GOD IT'S OPENING IT'S MOUTH OH GOD SAVE ME!!!
Dr. ████: Swim out of there, now!!!
D-████: (hysterical gibberish and screams, then a faint roar can be heard. Audio feed indicates that SCP-2857 was charging towards D-████, getting louder and louder, closer and closer, and then a disturbing ripping sound was heard, and the audio feed bursts to static.)
<End Log>
Closing Statement: Audio feed indicates that the spear and armored swimming gear were useless against SCP-2857. After the incident, about █ minutes later, blood and debris confirmed to be that of D-████ surfaced, and then an enormous shadow swept under the boat Dr. ████ and his team were in, before disappearing into the ocean █ seconds later.
