Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be contained in a 3.5 x 4 x 4.5 meter enclosure with walls made of 8 mm thick tempered glass and a skylight. A 2 meter tall door made of the same tempered glass is to be installed on one wall. This enclosure is to be in a larger room (6 x 6 meters) with concrete walls and floors. The enclosure should be fitted with grass flooring, a pond, small trees, bushes, and loose sticks for it to use. The pond is to be located in the corner and its diameter should be between .5 and 1 meters. Though it will eat when fed, SCP-XXXX does not appear to need sustenance so no resources are to be given to it for consumption.

Description: SCP-XXXX is an entity that constantly alters its physical appearance. The entity does not appear to have a base form that it reverts to. It seems to prefer to change its form when it is not being viewed. When it is consistently viewed, though, it will simply blink into a different appearance with no discernible transformation period. SCP-XXXX typically holds a single appearance for an average of 8 hours, but has changed, on some occasions, several times within an hour. There have never been two occasions when SCP-XXXX was found resembling a previously held appearance.

The forms SCP-XXXX takes range from those that variably resemble existing animals in nature to those that are largely unique and unfamiliar to nature. It is still unclear if SCP-XXXX voluntarily changes forms, or even has any influence over the forms it takes on.

Several of SCP-XXXX's more notable forms have been outlined below:

Duration Form Was Held Form Description Additional Notes
7 hours, 23 minutes A creature closely resembling a Highland cow with no identifiable neck, head, or facial features save for 4 hazel eyes with plus-shaped pupils. There were two horns protruding from the top of its shoulders. These horns were tiered and curled backward, not unlike a goat's horns. This was the first form SCP-XXXX assumed under the Foundation's custody.
4 hours, 28 minutes A "ball" of rough shagged fur measuring roughly 35 cm with a light-blue pigment. There were no other features observed save for its body, from which the fur stems from. This body was much smaller, measuring only 8 cm across. SCP-XXXX remained completely motionless in this form. Amid concerns that SCP-XXXX was dead, personnel had checked for a pulse, which was found.
1 hour, 18 minutes A dark brown reptillian creature measuring 0.5 meters from head to tail. It's head had 6 pure black eyeballs, 3 on each side of its face. There was a tall fin that ran along the length of its back to the end of it's tail. This fin was 9 cm at its highest. The creature would continuously secrete a greasy, viscose liquid from the crease where the base of its fin met its back. This greasy liquid was analyzed and found to be similar in structure to tar.
0 hours, 3 minutes A creature that resembled a koala. The creature was entirely lacking a mouth as well as both ears. It's leg muscles were very pronounced and disproportionate. It was bowlegged and had trouble walking well. Due to the short duration for which SCP-XXXX kept this form, the description was given based on what Researcher Henton, the only researcher present at the time, was able to remember.
17 hours, 10 minutes A small creature, somewhat resembling a newt, measuring 2.7 cm in length. It's body was a pale gray with two luminescent blue stripes down it's back. It's head had no typical facial features, save for dark blue patterns on it's skin that mimic eyes, nostrils, and a mouth. On the top of its head were 2 short, rounded horns. It had small fins on it's back resembling wings, but was not capable of utilizing them for flight. The creature moved in a serpentine fashion. Preferred to stay in the water, but was found to be able to thrive on land just as well.
9 hours, 51 minutes A 4 meter long anaconda-like creature with a vibrant lime green pigment along it's body. The creature had a severe under bite, and it's lower jaw was much larger and more defined than typical serpentine creatures. Along the length of its body, many of its scales were replaced by what appeared to be legs resembling those that would be seen on a gecko and measured only 5-7 cm. These extra limbs had a largely under developed skeletal structure compared to that seen in healthy adult geckos. While most of these limbs had no motor function, some did have a very minute capability to move, slightly twitching at seemingly random intervals.
36 hours, 15 minutes An small avian creature, standing at .5 meters tall, with two beaks next to one another on its head. These beaks would move independently of each other. One of these beaks resembled that of a ground finch, being short and wide. The other beak more resembled that of a hawk, being more elongated and curving downward to a point. The creature made a different cry depending on which beak the cry came from. The creature also sported two very large wings that could encompass it's entire body. It had a wingspan of 1.4 meters and would use it's wings to cover its body, similar to an armadillo. This was the single longest duration of time SCP-XXXX held a single form while in the Foundation's custody.

SCP-XXXX, while taking on the physique of many creatures, does not mimic behavioral patterns of the creatures it resembles. It is typically docile and calm in nature, even playful in some recorded cases. The entity has only been found to be hostile when provoked. SCP-XXXX will often attempt, to the best of its ability, to make small shelters out of the leaves and sticks in it's containment chamber. These shelters differ in size depending on the current size of SCP-XXXX's form. Once it changes forms, the shelter usually falls apart, only to be rebuilt soon after.

SCP-XXXX has, on several occasions, shown to be receptive to photographs of creatures it has seen. When shown photographs, it will likely be influenced by them and incorporate features of the pictured creature in future forms it takes on. (See Addendum XXXX-A).

Discovery: SCP-XXXX was first discovered in ██████, New Jersey after several reports to the local police caught the Foundation's attention. These reports described a 3 meter tall bear-like creature with rough grey skin, a complete lack of fur, and 6 legs. MTF Theta-16 ("Dogpile") was assigned for investigation and retrieval under the guise of an Animal Control team. After Theta-16 was dispatched, they searched the reported area and found SCP-XXXX soon after. It noticed them and began to retreat. As Theta-16 was in pursuit, the creature reportedly transformed into an entity closely resembling an eel. Due to being on land, SCP-XXXX was unable to evade capture any farther, and was retrieved by Theta-16.
