These aren't really "big" enough to hold multiples of the kind of ideas I get. :-J
GoI or group of anomalies to secure or a group of potential recruits, depending on how you look at it.
This group of beings hails from a nearby dimension. There is the Day world, which is much like our own, and the Night World, which is a magical rough analogue; cities in the same place, etc. What happens in one has inherent parallels in the other; someone blows up a building in one, the analogous building somehow gets blown up in the other.
There is a group tasked with handling big events that would affect both worlds; there are various units, some tasked with making sure the entities from one side don't stray to the other, or coordinating so that routine actions on one side are allowed for on the other (blasting for a road tunnel, for example), or trying to keep the two roughly balanced, so one doesn't screw over the other. Others are more about emergencies. Of these, there are three. Magical Catastrophe Unit, Mundane Catastrophe Unit, and Crossover Catastrophe Unit. Each has relatively few active members and a wide net of information gathering so that they know where they are needed.
The active team of the Magical Catastrophe Unit is only six members, although they bring in additional personnel as needed. The core positions are Negotiator, Dispeller, Seer, Warrior, Recorder, and Warder. Depending on the nature of the Catastrophe at hand, either the Negotiator, Dispeller, or Warrior is in command, with second and third varying among the whole team, although the Recorder is rarely in a command position.
The current team is comprised of veterans of varying history (even new recruits are taken from those with experience in their field), and most bear a few scars. They also all hail from the Night World, the world of magic, so they are all Anomalous by Federation standards
The two that are most important for my idea are their Dispeller and Warrior, but I will write all of them up before I post.
The current Warrior is a wolf shapeshifter. Not a werewolf, just a shifter. He can stop at any degree between man and wolf, and can speak in any form, although his vocal qualities do change.
The current Dispeller is the best in the history of the position, but they have been looking for someone to replace her, and she no longer comes unless they know she is needed, due to the fallout of a set spell (I.e., one requiring no further input from the caster) that was booby-trapped. She saw the trap, but she didn't have time to defuse both it and the main spell, which would have killed thousands in the Night world, and likely millions in the Day world by reverberation. She is now The Lady with the Umbrella.
In a more recent situation that required her expertise despite the downsides of her presence, the entire team was ejected from their home reality into SCP reality. While SCP reality resembles their Day World, it has different cultures and details of geography. After a time being here, the Seer and Recorder worked out that SCP reality greatly resembles what the Day World would have been like if it had developed on its own, without the connection to a Night World. This, combined with their inability to reach a Night World equivalent using their customary means, led them to the conclusion that here, only the Day World exists.
They also determined that all of their abilities work here as they do in their own Day World, making them all abberant individuals, but in very controlled ways, and with the urge to work for the safety of the general public. As they were able to detect signs of what they term "magic" in this world, they sought information about whether there were organizations keeping it in check, as they did not find any sign of it being used in everyday life. At home, this was true of the Day World because of their organization; thus, they suspected interference here, too.
There was also the need to find a suitable place to house The Lady With The Umbrella where she would not cause issues for the local inhabitants. After evaluating the groups they were able to detect, they determined that the Foundation had the closest philosophy to their own, and approached a Field Agent about negotiating for cooperation. The field agent was understandably wary upon being approached as a representative of the Foundation, but the Negotiator was able to make the situation sufficiently clear that he passed a report of several anomalous entities claiming they wanted to enter into a cooperative relationship with the Foundation.
Warnings were made about premature attempts at "collection" not being welcome or likely to succeed, and the Foundation ended up sending MTF {make up something relevant to contacting powerful entities without provoking them} along with an armed contingent in case those "warnings" turned out to be threats or other hostile action was taken.
The MCU's negotiating points were quickly laid out- they wanted to live peacefully in this world without causing any type of havoc in between imminent Magical Catastrophe events, and allowed to do their part in averting any MC events that did occur. Housing for The Lady with the Umbrella was of particular concern due to her condition. If research into reaching their home reality was of interest to the Federation, they were inclined to help, but they did not demand such. They did not wish to be "contained" against their will, and would respond with force if such was attempted. They wished to be able to remain in contact with each other, preferably in nearby housing, with the exception of the Lady with the Umbrella.
In return, in addition to helping with Magical Catastrophes, they were willing to participate in testing regarding their anomalous qualities, to avoid displaying their anomalous traits to anyone outside those authorized by the Foundation to be aware of such, and to help with containment of SCPs they were able to affect.
{I am thinking that the best use of these, assuming the Negotiator was able to keep the Foundation from jumping the gun, would be to form them into a MTU, test their loyalty in various ways, and eventually take them up on the offer. The LwtU, of course, actually does require Containment, not because she herself would do anything to harm anyone, but because she is unable to avoid spreading the Miasma once the umbrella is expended. She would have every inclination to maintain containment until and unless there arose a Magical Catastrophe involving her specialty. If her team calls, she will answer, and deal with the fallout after she saves the day. As usual.
Research into the Miasma and possible ways to lift it would be extremely welcomed by the whole team.}
Mage of great talent and power shackled with an aura of great misfortune. Umbrella allows temporary reprieve, but can only work so hard before needing to "recharge". Very sad, and needs a place to live where she can get what she needs without harming anyone, still inclined to do her job when she can.
The unique trait she has that made her the best at what she does is that she can literally see the energy harnessed in what are in her world called "set spells". Here, more likely called enchantments. This gives her extremely useful insight in how to break them without major backlash. She is also generally skilled in using these energies in various ways, but that simply qualifies her as a mage- it is the sight that makes her the preeminent Dispeller.
Unfortunately, her skill at such things made her the target of enemies who disapproved of their expensive and elaborate set-spells being pulled apart like string paintings. They created an intertwined pair of set-spells. One was the usual, a sort of high-yield magical bomb that would have killed the entire population of the city in which it was placed. This disaster, when it reverberated to the Day world, would have destroyed the analogous city, With a population in the millions. The second was one that would attach itself to anyone who interfered with the first, causing them to carry a miasma of death and misfortune that would make them a magical leper. They had also set a minor recording spell, so that if the MCU chose to save themselves at the expense of all those lives, that could be used against them.
When the MCU reached the location of these spells, there was not enough time to dispel both, so she dispelled the former, causing the latter to fall with full force upon her. In the Night World, the Miasma is visible as a roiling black smoke that billows around her and leaves a trail wherever she goes. This is also visible to some SCP personnel and apparatus. In the Day World, and to most forms of perception available to the SCP, the miasma itself is not visible, but the effects are not abated. Objects physically touched have the highest retention of the miasma, and it tends to build up in areas she occupies for some time, much as smoke will fill all the airspace of a chain-smoker's abode. She herself is immune to the affects of the Miasma.
The Miasma has several effects.
First, it literally causes cell death, with the amount of exposure and complexity of the organism determining the severity and spead of effect. Microorganisms are affected very quickly, with more exposure needed to cause necrosis and death in higher organisms. Cells may die due to any of a number of processes. It is not yet determined if microorganisms directly on her person are affected, and if so, how she is still digesting food.
Second, the miasma considerably increases the chances of dangerous or otherwise unfortunate events. Objects touched are much more likely to injure when used thereafter, and accidents are more likely to occur in areas where it is left.
The Umbrella is an artifact created to allow her some freedom of motion without leaving the Miasma behind. Specifically, it was created so she could go on missions without leaving a trail of the stuff or affecting her teammates. It can be used in two ways. First, in a "feather duster" fashion, swung through a swath of Miasma, it will clear it from the air. Second, she can hold it open behind herself, and if she moves without touching the ground (levitation is not difficult for her), catch the Miasma she is leaving behind, thus not leaving a trail of it. It does not absorb Miasma unless it is being intentionally used to do so, and it cannot clear any portion of the Lady's skin of Miasma, even temporarily.
There are two caveats to its use.
First, it can only "hold" so much Miasma at once. In its resting state, it is a hook-handled, large rainbow-colored (each panel a different color) umbrella. As it is used to absorb Miasma, the panels and ribs "burn" from the edge inward, with a smoldering edge gradually working its way towards the handle. When it is completely "burned", up to the handle, it cannot be used any further. At that point, it will gradually recover. First the handle returns to normal, then the panels and ribs begin to recover. In this mode, the light at the edge of the panels resembles sunlight seen around the edge of a parasol. Only when it is entirely restored can it be used to absorb Miasma again.
Second, gathering the rail of Miasma has an amnestic effect on anyone who is not actually accompanying the Lady. Others present will remember her companions, but not her. Anyone traveling with her is unaffected. Thus, in her home world, most people only remember her as a girl carrying a burnt-out umbrella and leaving death and misfortune in her wake, and earning her the moniker of The Lady with the Umbrella. Interestingly, anything she herself repairs or otherwise improves while emitting Miasma is also undone when she absorbs the relevant Miasma. Fortunately, her job in the team is to break spells, not improve them, meaning her actual operating quality is not affected by cleanup of the area once the Catastrophe has been averted. She can also advise one of her companions about doing repairs or creation, and as long as she herself does not get involved, even if she touches it, then removes the Miasma left behind, the improvement is not removed.
In order to avoid causing problems, she had made her home in the Day World, supported by her continued pay as an irregular member of the MCU (and planned pension once a suitable replacement was found). She owned a large piece of property with a house in the very middle, and a mailbox down at the entrance of the property. She got the largest mailbox postal regulations would allow, and lived on mail-order and otherwise delivered items. There were trees all about the property, which meant that unless someone actually came up to the house, they would not see the ring of dying and dead plants around it. In a few ways, the Miasma was actually helpful. As she had to maintain the property on her own, the lack of rot, vermin, and various forms of spoilage were quite handy.
Now that she is in this world, she needs to quickly reach something similar with regard to ability to live without affecting those outside, or being exposed as a nexus of death and decay. Thus, her willingness to consent to SCP containment procedures.
It is largely the group's loyalty to one another that is causing the rest of the team to approach the Foundation with her, rather than simply remaining an autonomous group seeking to prevent magical disasters. The connection to an existing information network, thus allowing them to do their job without having to act entirely alone, is the remainder.
