Photo taken of SCP-XXX chamber as initially found

Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: Access to SCP is regulated by Foundation staff who maintain overall operations of the New York Transit Museum. Foundation staff are to dissuade any tourists who express interest in entering the stairway leading to SCP-XXXX politely but firmly, security may be called if tourists are not compliant. Due to nature and location of SCP, no further containment procedures are necessary.

Description: SCP-XXXX is the designation given to a spatiotemporal anomaly that occurs within the decommissioned City Hall Station of the New York Subway System. Specifically, SCP-XXXX is localized to a singular room located in the unused west-wing of the station. The area in question is separated from the disused station via a featureless arched portal housing a stairway in the far corner of the platform.

The chamber that contains SCP-XXXX is large but spartan in decoration, bearing no furnishings save for scattered bronze scaffolding and wooden ladders strewn about the room with consequent signs of weathering and patina expected for their respective ages. Architecture and design are concurrent with the time of the station's construction, with rows of gray-scale Guastavino tiles lining the ceiling, arches and walls of the room. A row of incandescent light bulbs are mounted to the ceiling of the room as the sole light sources, in a similar state of weathering and patina as the plaques on the wall. All light bulbs are in anomalously good condition despite being at an ON state at all times, with the tungsten filaments and glass bulbs showing little to no signs of expected wear.

Blueprints of City Hall Station indicate that the room was initially planned as an ad-hoc, add-on concert chamber for musical performances both planned and impromptu, with an adjoining green room where performers could prepare for their performance. However, due to unknown circumstances, only the bare structure of the concert chamber was finished, with construction on the green room never having begun. Ground-Penetrating Radar scans of the station also reveal no discernible structures or rooms around the chamber itself. Of note is the chamber's noticeable lack of color beyond various shades of white, black and grey. This does not appear to be caused by any anomalous properties of SCP-XXXX, but rather a peculiar design choice by the chamber's designers.
One unmarked green door is located on the far side of the room from the entryway, presumably being where the green room would have been. The green of the door has been identified to be a shade known as "Gotham green" (Hex triplet: #355E3B), which is either coincidental or anachronous for its time of painting, as the shade was most recently publicized as the official color of the New York Jets circa April 4th, 2019. Individuals who enter the vicinity of SCP-XXXX report beginning to hear a light melody being played from behind the door. The melody has not been associated with any known musical piece, but subjects report feeling an odd sense of nostalgia upon hearing it.

Note: Subjects are free to leave the chamber at any time of their own volition at this point. No measurable signs of anomalous, memetic coercion have been observed.

Opening the door reveals a small corridor approximately 5 meters in length, at the end of which is another instance of a green door manifestation, hereby termed SCP-XXXX-###, where ### is the hex triplet code to the shade of green the door manifestation is. Upon entering the corridor, the door which the subject entered through will automatically close, although subjects can still decide to turn back and exit the corridor and leave at this point of time. Further exploration deeper into SCP-XXXX will forfeit this guarantee of egress, due to the aforementioned spatiotemporal anomaly associated with SCP-XXXX. The specific shade of green SCP-XXXX-### is greatly affects the state of the room proceeding it, with each shade of green carrying its own anomalous and non-anomalous properties associated with the colloquial name for that particular shade of green. Specific color of the SCP-XXXX-### manifestation cannot be controlled nor predicted as of yet, and seems to occur entirely at random with no correlation to any external factors. Most shades of green yield little to no noticeable differences from the baseline chamber, those that exhibit more anomalous features are noted below.

Note: Exploratory D-class subjects are to be outfitted with colorimetric grading equipment, shielded audio recording and relay equipment, along with a pair of micro-cameras mounted parallel to subjects’ eyes in stereoscopic arrangement. D-class are to be additionally equipped with food and water supplies sufficient for 24 hours of travel, a rebreather and a pair of sunglasses. Additionally, exploratory D-class utilized should be able to swim and either play an instrument or sing for more in-depth testing. Allergies to certain foods should be considered as well.

  • #808000 (Olive) - Room is empty save for an ornate arabesque side table carved entirely out of mahogany wood. A porcelain delftware bowl is situated on top of the table, filled with a variety of different table olives of varying colors, ripeness and preparations. Olives consumed are reported to taste, "quite good actually", with otherwise no other anomalous properties. However, the bowl refills itself through anomalous means.
  • #50C878 (Emerald) - Room seems to be entirely covered by a thin veneer of translucent, green-hued cyclosilicate material. Tests reveal is to be composed mainly of Beryl, with unusually high amounts of Chromium and Vanadium atypical of conventional emeralds. Material slowly regrows to original condition if damaged or samples are taken. Requests to leverage this room as a source of workable material pending approval.
  • #00A693 (Persian) - Room is composed almost entirely of what appears to be grey limestone [later identified as dolomite]. Raised stone slabs jut out of the ground with approximately 10cm of spacing in between slab instances. Slabs are arranged in concentric circles radiating outwards around a central statue of three figures, hewn out of obsidian and inlaid pieces of variscite, red jasper and beryllonite. Two of the figures are depicted as being locked in fierce battle, with eyes and various portions of the bodies and attire fitted with red jasper and beryllonite respectively. Researchers have positively identified these two figures as Zahhak and Kāve of Persian mythology, although the third figure fitted with variscite pieces remains unidentified pending further research.
  • #0BDA51 (Malachite) - Similar to room #50C878, except material is now an opaque, green, copper carbonate hydroxide mineral. Material presents itself in botryoidal habit, exhibiting the same regenerative properties as the material from room #50C878. A low reverberation can be noted emanating from the walls when using sensitive auditory equipment, sound is noted to play to the general rhythm of the violin music.
  • #87A96B (Asparagus) - Shoots of asparagus seem to grow out of all parts of the room through anomalous means. Room is otherwise harmless.
  • #00573F (Gotham) - Upon opening door, subject emerges back into initial chamber. It seems like encountering a Gotham green door is the only way to leave SCP-XXXX successfully.
  • #29AB87 (Jungle) - Room is much larger than usual, room is a circle of radius 500m across, dominated by large swathes of Euterpe precatoria as the sole species. The dense canopies formed by these trees house a variety of smaller fauna ranging from Asplenium nidus, Heliconia rostrata, Papilionanthe Miss Joaquim and Combretum rotundifolium among others.
  • #74C365 (Mantis) - Room populated with shrubbery upon which numerous instances and species of Mantidae Mantis live, some previously unknown to science. Food source unknown, mantis do not seem to bear anomalous properties, but some subjects report being watched by some select specimens.
  • #4D5D53 (Feldgrau) - Room is setup to resemble World War II era barracks. Racks of what seems to superficially resemble MG42 and StG44 weaponry line the walls. Guns are noted to be nonfunctional, but bear evidence of having been fired. Room is in a state of mild disrepair, with small cracks lining the walls and ceiling. Tattered remains of what seems to be a flag hangs from the eastern wall. Flag seems to depict a woman’s face wearing a crown of thorns. Single lightbulb hangs from the ceiling as only source of light. No evidence of cots, baggage or any signs of past habitation can be found.
  • #39FF14 (Neon) - Regular room except everything is a bright neon green color illuminated by floodlights mounted to the four arches of the ceiling. Subsequent subjects are advised to consider bring sunglasses or alternative forms of eye protection, as well as polarized lens filters.
  • #228B22 (Forest) - Room is much larger than usual, testing done indicates that the room is a circle of radius 100 meters. Room is dominated mostly by various specimens of the genus Ochroma pyramidale, Juglans Corymbia and Tectona. No non-plant organisms have been determined to reside within the room.
  • #7FFF00 (Chartreuse) - Subjects entering rapidly begin reporting dizziness, nausea and other symptoms of alcohol poisoning. Subjects who do not make it to the next door fast enough pass out and eventually expire. Subsequent subjects advised to bring re-breathers. Subjects with rebreathers are able to pass relatively unscathed, but report hearing a child’s laughter as they phase into slight alcoholic stupor.
  • #7CFC00 (Lawn) - Floor is now comprised of a well-kept lawn, with white picket fences lining the walls. Grass and soil samples taken have been found to be especially nutritious to plants of all varieties, although this anomalous behavior seems to only be maintained within the confined of the room itself. Digging down leads to hitting solid floor albeit 2 feet below where it usually is in other rooms.
  • #93C572 (Pistachio) - One subject reported smelling something strange, before grasping their throat approximately 3 seconds after entry into room. Subject expired due to asphyxiation caused by egregious inflammation of the throat coupled with anaphylactic shock. Further testing reveals abundance of fine particles identified to be pistachio suspended in the air, expired subject revealed to be allergic to said nut.
  • #3CB371 (Medium Sea) - Room rapidly begins filling with water once entry door is closed, initial subject expires due to drowning. Subsequent subjects are advised to bring rebreathers and be able to swim in the event of encountering SCP-XXXX-#3CC371 again. Water levels drop upon exiting the room, with water appearing to be held back from entering the exit corridor. Room drains and fills through anomalous means.

Further exploration of SCP-XXXX is to be put on hold.
