Special Containment Procedures: The Clerval Winery, located in Clerval, France, is to be monitored for any persons or entities entering or exiting the structure. Any attempt at entry into the building is to be halted under the guise of an arrest by local police. Any entities detected leaving the building are to be detained for questioning prior to containment or termination depending on its level of hostility.

Description: SCP-XXXX refers to an entity which is self-described as the “sole proprietor of the Clerval Winery and distributor of its wines.” This entity is the sole resident within The Clerval Winery. Per SCP-XXXX, during the 49 weeks that the winery is closed, it conducts a global search in order to find novel and worthwhile additions to the winery’s collection and this has been an ongoing process for at least 4,000 years.

During the proceding two weeks of its annual opening, 700 bottles of wine in various styles are sent by SCP-XXXX to persons worldwide1. On the reverse of the bottle's label is a note which states that the bearer of the bottle, and a guest of their choice, are welcome to attend a tour of the Clerval Winery at a given time and date. As well, the package that the wine arrives in contains airline tickets and hotel reservations corresponding to the scheduled tour at the winey.

Of the persons who have arrived to the Clerval Winery to attend a tour during a given season, only a single person has been observed leaving the Clerval Winery at the conclusion of the season.

SCP-XXXX became known to the Foundation in 1968 following Junior Researcher Dr. Paul Dalessio receiving a bottle of 1642 Clerval Cabernet Sauvignon at his personal residence [See Addendums A & B for more detail].
