Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be contained in a 20 x 20 ft container made of 1 ft thick concrete. The container is to be locked by a wooden bar. Anyone under Level 2 clearance attempting to enter the container will be terminated. No personnel with any metal in or on their person are not permitted to enter the chamber without prior clearance from a Level 4 personnel. No metal-based SCP's are to go anywhere within 40 feet of SCP-XXXX
Description: SCP-XXXX appears to be a perfectly round granite sphere 6.5 inches in diameter. Any objects classified as a metal or metalloid are transformed into a different metal or metalloid after anywhere from 5 (five) to an indefinite amount of time upon entering the sphere of influence of the granite sphere, which is approximately 8 ft in diameter from its center. The sphere appears to have some amount of consciousness and is malicious, as it actively attempts to change the metal under its influence into the most dangerous, painful or annoying metal it can.
The sphere generally prioritizes pain of those affected over killing them right off, usually only killing when it’s the only option. It appears that touching the surface forces the transitioning effect to take place. It also seems that any continuous pieces or connected pieces of metal must be turned into the same substance, and will turn the entirety of a subject into metal, even if some or most of it goes to the outside of the radius. for example, a long, straight copper wire will all be turned into gold, and even the section of wire outside the radius will also turn gold. Due to the whole subject turning metal, taking the sphere outside containment could cause a site-wide blackout and containment breach.
It was recovered from ███████, South Carolina after the local hospital received calls from Harold ████ with intense pain in his right arm, apparently a side effect due to a recent surgery. A foundation field agent investigated the man’s home and discovered a small area around a shelf that was covered in liquid mercury, a bismuth ceiling fan which had fallen, and large amounts of radioactive isotopes extending throughout the house’s electrical system. ████ and the smooth granite sphere in the center of the mess were taken into foundation custody. A titanium plate and fittings in his arm was replaced with large and sharp bismuth crystals. The bismuth was removed, the plate replaced surgically, and was given a Class A - Amnestic.
Addendum XXXX-1: In transport to the nearest foundation facility from ███████, South Carolina, a foundation truck carrying the object was turned into gallium approximately 3 minutes and 34 seconds after loading. The gallium quickly melted under the summer heat. Another truck was called and the granite sphere was transported in a wooden wagon pulled far behind the truck.
Addendum XXXX-2: A D-Class personnel was instructed to hold an aluminum square approximately 6 inches x 6 inches and walk toward the granite sphere. After approximately 26 seconds, the square transformed into tungsten. The Class-D personnel dropped the now weighted cube fell and smashed his right foot, causing a large bone fracture and bleeding.
Addendum XXXX-3: A D-Class personnel with a titanium shoulder on his left was instructed to walk toward the granite sphere. After approximately 2 minutes and 8 seconds, the D-Class personnel lost control of his left arm and started screaming in pain. 2 (two) guards quickly removed all metal from their person, brought the D-Class to the hospital wing of Site-██ and was given general anesthetic. Upon looking inside, all of the titanium turned into mercury. Several grams had entered the bloodstream, and the D-Class died a few hours later.
Addendum XXXX-4: A D-Class personnel with several amalgam dental fillings was instructed to walk toward the granite sphere. The D-Class stood next to the sphere for 10 minutes before being instructed to touch it. Upon physical contact, which was described as “uncomfortably smooth”, the dental fillings immediately turned into an unknown, highly radioactive metal. The D-Class died from radiation poisoning in just a few seconds, in addition to a security officer kitted with a heavy-duty radiation suit, who entered containment to remove the body and test the radiation, which was in excess of 20 sieverts.
Addendum XXXX-5: It appears that SCP-XXXX is aware of all items immediately surrounding it. A copper wire was held just inside the 8 ft sphere of influence with a blowtorch held on it just outside. The copper changed into magnesium after 24 seconds within the boundary and burned brightly.
Addendum XXXX-6: On one incident, the sphere of influence expanded to 15 ft throughout the duration of a solar eclipse over the territory of ██████. Both security officer’s bullets became too fragile for practical use, and the previous lock
