Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Euclid Neutralized

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be kept in a well lit, airtight containment cell with no cracks in the concrete used in the walls, floor, and ceiling of the containment cell. All edges and corners of the containment cell must be tarred once per 2 months. A dual Air-tight door system must be implemented to ensure personnel entering the containment cell let SCP-XXXX out. No personnel allowed into the containment cell are permitted to move until verbally instructed to do so to ensure that the airlock is sealed.

As of ██/██/████, no Special Containment Procedures are necessary. See Addendum XXXX-E for details about SCP-XXXX’s neutralization.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a Vantablack colored sphere about 1 m in Diameter that floats about 1.5 m off the ground. SCP-XXXX has demonstrated the ability to change into any shape it pleases, regardless of how much material appears to be present.

SCP-XXXX has shown animalistic behavior and appears to “lure” prey by appearing docile. If any human comes within 3 m of SCP-XXXX, it engulfs the subject in itself and covers as large of an area with itself that it can. The spread will not stop until there is no more surface area for it to cover. There are no known limits to how large of an area it can cover before stopping. The largest recorded area was a 6-mile radius in 45 seconds upon SCP-XXXX’s discovery, engulfing all trees in the area.

Once SCP-XXXX has grabbed hold of a subject, it will not let go until the subject has died or been grievously injured. It will not let go until it has had a gratifying conversation with the subject. If the subject does not converse, SCP-XXXX will choose to injure or kill the subject. SCP-XXXX is not consistent in how it kills its subjects but the most common cause of death is by crushing of all the bones in the subject’s body. It seems to be more aggressive with male test subjects.

D-████ is the only male subject whom SCP-XXXX has not killed or severely injured as of ██/██/████. D-████ has become a very valuable asset to finding out more about SCP-XXXX. Through testing and SCP-XXXX’s willingness to communicate with D-████, it has been found out that SCP-XXXX is sapient and communicates with the subjects it covers through telepathy. Some surviving subjects claim SCP-XXXX to be female and that it has an "energetic" and "bubbly" personality.

Addendum XXXX-A

When asked questions by other Foundation personnel about its origin or properties, SCP-XXXX would kill them. D-████ was asked to conduct an interview with SCP-XXXX to understand it’s anomalous properties and was not killed. D-████ is to report all information found out when he is released from SCP-XXXX.

Interviews were conducted by Dr. ████████████, head of the SCP-XXXX research team.

<Begin Log>

Dr. ████████████: Where does SCP-XXXX come from?

D-████: She said that she couldn’t really remember. The most recent thing she could remember was the forest they found-

Dr. ████████████: I’m sorry… She?

D-████: Yeah, at least she sounds like a woman.

Dr. ████████████: Alright… I'll take note of that. Does SCP-XXXX have any control over when it attacks or how far it spreads after attacking?

D-████: uhh, she didn’t know what I was talking about… she just wants somebody to talk to.

Dr. ████████████: Is that the reason she isn’t killing you? To have a conversation?

D-████: Maybe? I asked her about why she “discards” those other people like you guys told me to and she said that it was because they weren’t interested in having a conversation at all.

Dr. ████████████: Why does SCP-XXXX not kill most female subjects?

D-████: She said that they're much more… willing to talk than the men are.

Dr. ████████████: Thank you, D-████.

<End Log>

Multiple requests by D-████ to talk with SCP-XXXX outside of a testing environment have been denied due to the inability to record conversations SCP-XXXX has with test subjects.

Addendum XXXX-B

As of ██/██/████, appears to become agitated when not exposed to a “gratifying” conversation for about a week. All test subjects other than D-████ are either killed or released quickly while SCP-XXXX remains agitated. D-████ has been allowed weekly access to SCP-XXXX’s containment cell under strict and close supervision to keep SCP-XXXX docile.

Addendum XXXX-C

An interview pertaining to SCP-XXXX’s properties and D-████’s relationship with SCP-XXXX was conducted.

Interviews were conducted by Dr. ████████████, head of the SCP-XXXX research team.

<Begin Log>

Dr. ████████████: Can SCP-XXXX communicate outside of telepathy?

D-████: She can hear but that’s about it

Dr. ████████████: Can SCP-XXXX communicate with telepathy without covering the person and room it wishes to communicate with?

D-████: You know… we were talking about it and we thought Vanta would be a good name. It's a little less… harsh than SCP-XXXX

Dr. ████████████: For the sake of the interview, I will continue to refer to the subject as SCP-XXXX.

Dr. ████████████: Let me repeat the question. Can SCP-XXXX communicate with telepathy without covering the person and room it wishes to communicate with?

D-████: No.

Dr. ████████████: Why is it that SCP-XXXX doesn’t kill you when you ask the questions?

D-████: It’s not the only thing we talk about! We talk about so many other things. She’s got a great personality and just… I love spending time with her. I think she can pick up on that and I believe that’s why.

Dr. ████████████: What kind of things do you and SCP-XXXX discuss outside of the questions The Foundation has given you?

D-████: Well, don't worry, doc. I wouldn't be stupid enough to reveal anything about The Foundation that she doesn't already know. But to answer your question, before I left we were talking about music and she was able to play music from my memory. We listened to the Beatles. Abbey Road, specifically.

Dr. ████████████: Thank you D-████

<End Log>

Addendum XXXX-D

Due to the open-ended nature of D-████’s conversations with SCP-XXXX being the key to gathering information about SCP-XXXX and keeping it docile, D-████ has been warned of revealing information about The Foundation in any way but will be allowed to continue communicating with SCP-XXXX. Site management is still trying to figure out how to deal with SCP-XXXX's ability to see into the memories of D-████. Site management has assigned Dr. █████ as a counselor and mental trainer for D-████ to teach D-████ how to control his thoughts and mind while conversing with a telepathic being to lessen the risk of unwanted information being given to SCP-XXXX.

Addendum XXXX-E

On ██/██/████, D-████ was killed in a containment breach involving SCP-████. When told the news of D-████’s death, SCP-XXXX began to react violently, becoming extremely agitated and subsequently breached containment, breaking through the viewing window and killing most of the research team instantaneously. SCP-XXXX began spreading through the entire facility and only stopped when the remaining researcher and D-████’s assigned mental counselor, Dr. █████, played a tape in which D-████ had been rambling about SCP-XXXX in a therapy session 1 month before his death.

<Begin Log>

D-████: Doc, do you know what it feels like to meet somebody that you just… know?

D-████: where you just understand them?

D-████: I’ve finally met someone like that

D-████: I don’t think I should say… I might get in trouble by the staff

Dr. █████: Everything you say in here is between you and me. I don’t have to tell them anything if you don’t want me to.

D-█████: Her name is Vanta. She’s just… amazing. She and I have so much in common, there’s almost no end to what we can talk about. I would do anything for her. Despite her… condition… and exclusive personality, I still love her. It's funny, I’m actually grateful for the Foundation having us both stuck here so we could meet. I love being able to teach her things that I’ve learned from before my time here at The Foundation. I just… I love her so much.

<End Log>

After the tape ended, SCP-XXXX froze for a moment and retracted all material it had spread throughout the facility. After 2 minutes, SCP-XXXX turned a dull grey color and lost shape. SCP-XXXX’s anomalous properties no longer appeared to be present.

[After living through this containment breach, I would like to request that SCP-XXXX be considered Neutralized. I would also like to resign to spend more time with my family -Dr. █████]
