Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX's permanent containment is currently sole priority of SCP-XXXX research staff. In the meantime, a controlled SCP-XXXX feeding event is to be triggered twice a day by introducing a large live animal to the designated chamber in Area X (Typically accepted livestock include but are not limited to Cattle, Deer, Elk, goat, and D-class personnel under extreme circumstances). These controlled feeding events have shown to be extremely efficient in reducing the rate of attacks in the 80 km² area designated SCP-XXXX's current habitat.

MTF-Eta-14 ("Pequod") has been established in order to monitor SCP-XXXX's activity in order to assess changes in behavior, provide cover stories for rogue feeding events, confirm that the controlled feeding protocol is still effective and prepare for possible SCP-XXXX relocation events.

Description: SCP-XXXX is similar to the presumed appearance of the Livyatan melvillei (a now extinct genus to the sperm whale). The subject in question slightly smaller than the estimated size for its species, measuring roughly 10.67 meters in length. While SCP-XXXX's anomalous properties make it difficult to accurately study, the subject is hypothesized to be a genuine member of the Livyatan melvillei species, making it roughly 8.9 to 9.9 million years old. Records of anomalous behavior matching SCP-XXXX's hunting patterns date back to the 4th century.

The subject itself does not appear to be anomalous in nature, research is ongoing to determine weather SCP-XXXX can manifest any anomalous effects, or weather it is simply a property of the area in which the subject inhabits, hereby referred to as SCP-XXXX-1. SCP-XXXX is noted to have sustained multiple injuries, presumably obtained from past victims which happened to be armed during an SCP-XXXX feeding event. Injuries include ballistic penetrations wounds, major and minor lacerations, and heavy bruising from blunt force trauma.

SCP-XXXX-1 is an extradimensional space comprised mostly of still water that stretches out in all directions to the visible horizon. The space is dark, seemingly devoid of life with the exception of SCP-XXXX. Currently the only known method of accessing SCP-XXXX-1 is through an SCP-XXXX feeding event. It is theorized that SCP-XXXX-1 is an alternate dimension outside of Einsteinian space-time, which allows the subject to travel across Earth faster than normally possible without being deterred by obstacles. This hypothesis is corroborated by the current understanding of SCP-XXXX's hunting patterns.

SCP-XXXX's anomalous properties manifest during the time frame of 10pm to 5am Est-5 when a living specimen within SCP-XXXX's "Hunting grounds" is alone, out of line of sight of other living creatures, and fully illuminated by a particularity bright light source¹. When manifesting, the intended target will be transported from their current location to SCP-XXXX-1, this transportation is almost instantaneous, and no known means have proven viable for preventing or retrieving a victim from said transportation event.

Once inside SCP-XXXX-1, the victim will fall into the water as there is no longer a floor to support them. It is of note while in SCP-XXXX-1, a light source similar to the one that transported the victim will still shine above them, though with no identifiable source. From here, the light source, and the usual reaction of shock from the victim will attract SCP-XXXX, who will arrive within a few minutes of the dimensional shift. Upon discovery, SCP-XXXX will viciously attack and ingest the victim.

What happens after this point is currently unknown as all wireless recording equipment will lose signal shortly after, even equipment designed to survive the water damage and trauma of an SCP-XXXX feeding event.

Addendum XXXX.1: Discovery
SCP-XXXX was discovered on 20/07/1991 after a large number of missing persons reports in a relatively small area of Houston Texas had been brought to foundation attention. Foundation agents were able to discover SCP-XXXX's existence after finding a cache of police evidence towards these disappearances consisting of multiple CCTV and other automated security recordings of said missing persons completely visible in one frame, before dispersing in the next with all known traces of the individual stopping there. The evidence was confiscated and class-C amnestics were administered to investigators and witnesses of these disappearances.

1. Testing has revealed that, while SCP-XXXX generally targets the brightest light source around it, the creature has manifested for sources as low as 100 lumens. When multiple light sources are present, it tends to choose the one that better engulfs its victim.
