Item #: SCP-xxxx
Object class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-xxxx is to be contained within an airtight cell, measuring 3 cubic meters, with each face of the cell composed of 6cm hardened steel. The cell is to be kept free of all solid matter. SCP-xxxx is to be fastened to a model of a standard human head, made of ballistics gel, to be inspected weekly for any loss of integrity. Following event xxxx-2, SCP-xxxx is to be secured using steel brackets, suspended in the approximate center of its cell. Any indication of degradation of containment materials is to be acted upon swiftly, replacing affected surfaces. As SCP-xxxx has the potential to cause catastrophic damage in a chain reaction, as found in experiment xxxx-1, access to SCP-xxxx is restricted outside of testing, which must be approved by personnel of level 4 clearance or higher. If, for any reason, SCP-xxxx must be removed from its current position, the object is to be lifted by the face mask and donned by a single D-class with sufficiently high obedience scores. All attending personnel are to maintain a radius of no less than 2 meters from subject. The former subject SCP-xxxx-A is to be maintained in a standard living chamber, to be kept informed of any progress involving SCP-xxxx.
Description: SCP-xxxx is a standard American Football helmet, confirmed to be manufactured by [DATA EXPUNGED], and having no visible differences from a standard instance of the same model. Due to the anomalous property SCP-xxxx, attempted material analysis of the object is considered unwise. The object displays no anomalous properties when undisturbed.
SCP-xxxx’s primary anomalous property activates when the outer shell of the item collides with any solid matter. Upon contact with solid material, combustion will occur instantaneously at the point(s) of impact. The size and power of the explosion resulting from collision is proportional to the total surface area of Scp-xxxx contacted, rather than to the composition or volume of the contacted object. The lowest recorded energy released from a single collision event is 0.462 kWh, triggered by contact with a common house fly. SCP-xxxx displays a secondary anomalous property upon activation, as SCP-xxxx is completely unharmed by the explosions it creates. When SCP-xxxx is worn by an individual, this secondary effect extends to the subject, from this point referred to as SCP-xxxx-A. Instances of SCP-xxxx-A gain the ability to make contact with any part of the object, so long as it remains in their possession. All instances can be otherwise interacted with normally, and will cease all anomalous activity upon death or separation from SCP-xxxx.
There appears to be no limitation to the materials that can trigger SCP-xxxx's effect, including living organisms (except SCP-xxxx-A). Most subjects quickly expire after coming into contact with SCP-xxxx.
While SCP-xxxx is seemingly immune to any damage caused by its anomaly, it is not unaffected by the reactions. Because SCP-xxxx has a tendency to create large chain reactions culminating in increasingly devastating blasts, this makes it possible for the object to move erratically, causing heavy destruction across great distances.
Addendum xxxx-1: SCP-xxxx was brought to the attention of the foundation following reports of explosions at a college football game in ████████, Virginia. Approximately 13 minutes into the first half, after a substitution, a collision by player Andrew Forts resulted in the activation of SCP-xxxx's anomalous properties. Agent ████, on leave while recovering from lacerations sustained in [DATA EXPUNGED], moved to assist nearby security force in crowd control. Foundation personnel arrived at the scene and administered class-A amnestics to all civilians involved. Incident was explained as an act of terror, committed by D-4027. SCP-xxxx was eventually recovered along with Andrew Forts, and contained by field agents.
Interviewed: Andrew Forts, first instance of SCP-xxxx-A
Interviewer: Doctor Riggs, head of xxxx research
Foreword: Attempt to convince the subject to relinquish SCP-xxxx. Interview takes place in shielded cell, divided by a blast-proof sheet of plexiglass
<Begin Log>
Riggs: Hello, Mister Forts
Forts: I already told you people. I don’t know where it came from. My teammate put it on for me, then it just… happened.
Riggs: Do not worry, Mister Forts, that’s not why I’ve called you here today. I would like to repeat my request for you to remove SCP-xxxx
Forts: No. if I do, I’m dead. Either it kills me, or you will, I’m sure.
Riggs: Mister Forts, what leads you to believe we want to harm you?
Forts: I’ve seen what happens to those guys in orange. They’re like cattle to you. What’s the difference with me?
Riggs: Do you know why those men are pushed into those rooms? Why they don’t deserve to be respected? The difference between you and them is that you haven’t raped, killed, stolen-
Doctor Riggs cuts himself off, supposedly to regain composure
Riggs: Excuse me. That was… unprofessional. The point is, Mister Forts, is that these men have been given a chance to do one final act of good, in an attempt to make peace before their punishment comes. We don’t seek cruelty here at the Foundation, we seek the illusion of normalcy.
Forts: Okay. I-I’ll try to remove it.
following agreement, a ballistics gel model of a human head is introduced to the chamber. SCP-xxxx-A, though with visible reluctance, begins to remove SCP-xxxx from their head. Subject winces as they fully remove the helmet. SCP-xxxx-A places the object on the model head, which is then collected by containment specialists.
Riggs: That’s all, you can go.

Notes: Following this interview, the initial containment procedures were put in place.
Event xxxx-2: (Event captured on security cameras throughout the site.)
15:03: Minor earthquake occurs at site ██
15:04: Model head holding SCP-xxxx falls over.
15:06: Rapid sequential explosions destroy SCP-xxxx’s containment cell
15:07: Site-wide lockdown commences
15:09: SCP-xxxx spotted by site security in East Hallway-B
15:13: Doctor Riggs encounters security team in attempt to reach safety. Team changes directive to protecting Riggs. Member of security orders Riggs to stay low.
15:16: SCP-xxxx is seen traveling rapidly through hallway, on course to hit security team from behind.
15:17: Doctor Riggs fails to follow procedure xxxx-λ “duck and cover”. Doctor Riggs is struck by SCP-xxxx in the lower back, and quickly expires from injuries
// note: 5 further foundation personnel are killed by SCP-xxxx in similar fashion, including a number of site security.//
15:23: Junior Researcher Ponds is seen in hallway in SCP-xxxx’s predicted path
15:25: Event reaches conclusion when junior researcher Ponds catches SCP-xxxx by the face guard.
Subsequent testing confirmed that the face mask of SCP-xxxx does not present SCP-xxxx’s primary anomaly, though still resistant to it. Containment procedures have been updated following this event. Ponds promoted and assigned to lead all future research on SCP-xxxx.

Interviewed: Andrew Forts
Interviewer: Researcher Ponds
Foreword: Interview conducted at request of Andrew Forts, following Incident xxxx-2
Forts: It’s my fault. Those men, the security. Even the doctors. It’s all my fault. Again.
Ponds: Mr Forts, nobody here blames you for this. You’ve already shown us that you don’t know this object any better than we do. Containment failures happen. It’s part of the job. But we need to know more.
Forts: You want to use it more? Why?
Ponds: Do you really think that this helmet is the only thing out there that’s blowing shit up? Today it might be. But tomorrow there could be a kid in Arizona who loses his family after a birthday gone wrong. We need to know how to stop these things from happening. This isn’t the first deadly hat we’ve had, and it damn well won’t be the last.
Neither subject speaks for the remainder of the interview. Interview concluded
<End Log>
Notes: Andrew Forts expressed a significant change in attitude following interview xxxx-4, ceasing all hostility towards Foundation personnel. Subject has agreed to remain in Foundation custody until the circumstances surrounding SCP-xxxx are better understood. -Researcher Ponds
