Generic copyright free music is anart created to replace all other music. The SCP is an 'album' of several similar songs created as a protest of music censorship, following the "If I can't have it, nobody can" trope. The songs are all slightly different, but are recognized by the presence of Ukulele, Glockenspiel, Whistling, and Rhythmic Clapping. The music has anomalous effects following these rough stages:
1. Listeners can't get the song 'out of their head', and find themselves compelled to hum/play along. They begin to prefer the anomalous music over other kinds.
2. The anomalous music begins to replace other music affected people listen to. They feel compelled to spread the anomalous music through playing it in public or using it as background music in other media.
3. All sounds begin to sound like the music to affected people, they can no longer speak without singing the tune.
These effects are felt most strongly/rapidly by musicians, artists, or other 'creative' types.
The music is primarily spread online, with the creator uploading the music to various music sharing/streaming sites. The Foundation is notified to its existence when news of 'undeletable songs' start appearing in online music forums. By the time they track down the source and start to counteract the anomalous music the original artist disappears/escapes, and the music continues to be posted in new locations. The spread is contained through intensive screening of streaming sites, and forced editing to remove anomalous frequency patterns from the music and disable its effects in places where it cannot be otherwise removed outright. They believe that they've achieved stable containment when the worsening effects of the anomaly begin to emerge in those already affected. Cue test logs to show someone deafening themselves and/or communicating through writing to try and mitigate the effects. The effects are only curable through intensive Amnestic treatment, however exposure to the non-anomalous versions of the music can still cause relapse.
An artist is upset at the misuse and illegal sharing of their own work and create a song to intentionally destroy all musical creativity. Due to the widespread use of similar music in the real world, and recent frustrations over DMCA takedowns and copyright 'being broken' the reader will likely be familiar with both the music and the feelings of frustration around it, showing how far the SCP has 'already' spread.
SCP-XXXX-EX during early stages of activity.
Special Containment Procedures: A disinformation campaign is to be spread among the local population, citing the area's endangered ecosystem status with the intent to disguise the containment facilities surrounding instances of SCP-XXXX-EX as a conservation effort. A perimeter fence has been installed outside of the current known area of effect for all instances of SCP-XXXX-EX. Electrically insulated guard posts and gates, equipped with their own generators and grounding mechanisms, have been installed at the entrances to each containment site.
Outside of security detail and activity monitoring equipment, no personnel or outside equipment should remain in any instances of SCP-XXXX-EX for longer than six (6) hours, especially during expected periods of increased activity. Travel within instances of SCP-XXXX-EX must be performed on foot, or manually using inflatable synthetic rafts and rubberized wooden oars. Personnel with implanted medical devices, orthopedic implants, and/or non-removable piercings or jewelry shall not be allowed entry to any SCP-XXXX-EX containment site. All personnel within instances of SCP-XXXX-EX must equip waterproof arc flash suits and portable electroscopes at all times. Personnel are to evacuate to a guard post immediately upon detection of electric potential greater than 20 volts.
Update: 2019-08-15
Upon reclassification, control of all SCP-XXXX-EX containment sites has been returned to the local municipal government in the form of a state nature reserve, with notice to the cause of increased activity within instances SCP-XXXX-EX. Special Containment Procedures have been preserved for use in retrieving Foundation equipment from within all former SCP-XXXX-EX containment sites.
Description: SCP-XXXX-EX is a series of four (4) coastal Myristica swamps located in Goa, India. These instances have been declared SCP-XXXX-1-EX though SCP-XXXX-4-EX in order of largest to smallest total land area encompassed. These instances are thought to have once been connected, but have shrunken due to non-anomalous environmental degradation in the region.
All instances of SCP-XXXX-EX are marked by periods of extreme electrical activity, with the highest activity coinciding with the region's monsoon season. During this period, large regions of swampland become electrified, resulting in mass deaths of local flora and fauna.
Electrokinetic effect producing a weak bleach solution and electrical charge
Banded Iron Formations
Depletion of local water table via overuse of wells and exacerbated dry season droughts
Infiltration of seawater into micro-layers of iron ore
Addendum:
Page Type: SCP Article
Genre: Comedy, Drama
Page Layout: Standard Layout with community submission recipe/testing logs.
Elevator Pitch: An cookbook with anomalous recipes, stylistically riffing on the long, drawn out storytelling style of blog recipes. Recipes contain no anomalous ingredients, but use esoteric and oddly precise quantities. When prepared, items have anomalous properties linked to the name of the recipe, ie. A 'Bombe' cake turning into an effective hand grenade.
Central Narrative: Item is discovered in a college dorm after the entire building is flooded with marinara sauce, along with POI student that owned the book. Student is studying culinary arts, and claims they received the book from a professor that doesn't exist. Through initial testing, it's found that recipes are only anomalous if the preparer has distinct knowledge of SCP-XXXX, and if the ingredient quantities are within 5% of the listed values. The bulk of the article otherwise would be example recipes and their effects, getting stranger or more potentially threatening the further into the book they are.
Hook/Attention-Grabber: Mild format screw with cookbook entries, wide possibility space for potential recipes and effects.
