Special Containment Procedures: SCP-7872 is to be kept in a storage room with level 2 clearance in light containment with a post guarded by 1-2 security guards in the event of a breach of SCPs or D-class personnel. The storage room should be regularly checked for SCP-7872, if SCP-7872 is not to be found staff will be questioned of its whereabouts. If SCP-7872 is not found after questioning staff any security not guarding D-block are authorised to search light containment for SCP-7872. Termination of SCP-7872 is not authorised under any event due to its anomalous effect being safe.
Description: SCP-7872 is a standard silver VHS tape with a blank sticker that was once used for titling the movie that was stored on the tape, the sticker has now been repurposed for labelling the SCP and the date it was recovered being 9/1/1972. The reason of SCP-7872 has such a high cereal number involves it being moved to numerous sites ever since its containment, requiring re-branding for certain sites.
When SCP-7872 is placed into a VHS player and plugged into a standard Television, a recording plays of what appears to be an episode of a family sitcom known as “Richard’s World”. The Tape only shows one scene of the living room with a man inside the living room. The man in the film is fully sentient knowing he is both inside a film and is being watched.
When exposed to SCP-7872, the man will most usually introduce himself as “Richard” and start a conversation. If “Richard” decides to, he will invite people into his show as a “guest appearance” and guide them to pressing both [play] and [pause] buttons on the VHS player, when these buttons are pressed, the person who does so will suddenly vanish, and appear in the show, entering through the living room door.
Any D-class that has been tested on SCP-7872 has described the living quarters to be completely grey-scale “like in the show”. There is only a living room with one wall being completely replaced with a screen showing the outside world explaining how “Richard” sees others. Anyone inside SCP-7872 is allowed access to leave whenever they want through the front door and re-appear in front of the television.
“Richard” himself being classified as SCP-7872-B, appears to be an “actor in the tape” as he describes. Living in the tape for years, He seems completely contempt with staying in the film and any attempts to force him out have led to him re-appearing in the film without the escorts who were transferred back.
Any instance of SCP-7872 that is indirectly shown through the VHS i.e. phone recording, bootleg or in some circumstances, in a dream, the teleportation has no effect. SCP-7872 can only be accessed by the VHS player it’s been inserted into.

Foreword: My name is R. Horruss, I have been working in the technology division of research and have been assigned by my higher ups to regularly test and visit 3452 but as I am told this SCP will be transferred regularly with me included to other sites. So ill have to code name it once I’ve done my first interview.
I must be honest, I was a little shocked when MTF division Mu-4 handed me a briefcase with a silver VHS tape inside at the EZ gates. Both I and 3452 are now in the interrogation room with a VHS player and a standard television set up by the others before starting. I am to assume it’s sentient and will be asking it a series of questions starting now.

Horruss: Hello… 3452. Can I get your name?
Richard: Hi sir, my name is Richard.
Horruss: Well. Richard, can you tell me who I am and where you are?
Richard: Hmm. You’re a doctor, and I’m in a… hotel?
Horruss: Correct Richard, please tell me a bit about yourself.
Richard: I have been the host actor of Richard’s world for about 4 years, playing the role of Richard.
Horruss: What is your real name?
Richard: It’s Richard.
Horruss: Mhm. Alright, how did you get inside the VHS tape?
Richard: I… Honestly have no clue sir, I only remember being an actor playing Richard, and that I’ve been hosting the show for this long, repeating the same episode over and over.
Horruss: Well this is interesting, you’re fully aware you’re in a tape? And you’ve been in this tape for 4 years?
Richard: Yes sir.

Closing Statement: Richard appears to be self aware, i shall test to see if he understands earth related things next time.
Addendum: [SCP-7872-2]
Foreword: I have been relocated to Site-08 with Richard. The fellas at 13 told me that Richard is now classified as 235. Who cares though, I’m not going to remember these numbers. As far as I’m aware my higher ups will be ringing me up as soon as I arrive at Site-08’s transit station.
[UNIDENTIFIED EDIT IN LOGS] Hey its Horruss again, I’ve been waiting at the Gate B transit station for hours. I was a bit confused until I got a telegram from one of the outdoor agents, it read “Attention all staff of the SCP Foundation, I regret to inform you that Site-13 has gone off the radar due to unforeseen consequences. Any survivors from site-13 are to be interrogated at once” So I’ve just got out of interrogation with the new higher ups. I’m one of the only recorded survivors of Site-13, maybe even the only one! and I don’t even know how it happened. I won’t let them down though, I will continue my orders and conduct more research on Richard.

Horruss: Good morning Richard, do you remember me?
Richard: Yeah nice to see you again doc, it’s been a while alone here.
Horruss: That brings me to my next question. What do you see when the tape is shut off?
Richard: Well, the screen just goes black, it’s like looking through a large television on my end.
Horruss: I see. Do you understand regular human functions, human ethics and an understanding of household and outdoor items?
Richard: Yeah I know that stuff, just don’t remember what school I learnt it in… did I go to school?
Horruss: We don’t know yet but it’s good to see you have an understanding of earth. Have you ever been experienced in illegal activities?
Richard: No sir, I’ve been a law abiding citizen ever since I was 10.
Horruss: Do you remember being 10 or ageing?
Richard: … No. Kind of weird, I just know these things.
Horruss: Alright Richard, I’ll add these to the document… Don’t worry, your interviews are being recorded to better understand your situation and maybe help you.

Foreword: The foundation just sent me a telegram stating “anyone with knowledge of the date and time during the incident of Site 13 must redact that information in all documents” So this year has to be redacted as well as the last report.
Ever since the last recorded interview with Richard, we had some more interviews that were fruitless but Richard was able to comfort me about the “office fire” incident which was nice. After that discussion I was asked to board the next transport to Site-68. I’ve never done this much travelling before, but at least it’s fresh. Were currently boarding the plane. And I’ve been allowed to stay in the cargo zone with Richard plugged in. So I can have one last interview before Site-68. I’m not sure what they will be making me do at Site-68 but I know I’m not going to get terminated since there’s the Site-13 thing.

Richard: Mhm, so I’m guessing you’re more of a scientist, like with the government?
Horruss: Yes, and that’s all the questions you’re allowed to ask about my career, we are focusing on you now Richard. Tell me, can you feel turbulence?
Richard: No. I can just see the plane windows sir.
Horruss: Ok good, anything else you’d like to tell me before we take off?
Richard: Yes sir. Would you like to join my show as a guest?
Horruss: Oh, so you can do that? How exactly?
Richard: You can press start and pause at the same time, then you can come right in.
