Item #: SCP-XXX

Special Containment Procedures
SCP-XXX is to be maintained as an article in the SCP database, with specific text censored via either "black box" or the phrase "[redacted]" replacing the text. Readers of SCP-XXX (as determined through monitoring of the access log) are to be monitored for at least 2 days after accessing the file for signs of the effects of SCP-XXX.

If a reader is found to be effected, they are to be administered amnesics sufficient to erase the memory of the article, and the containment team is to determine a new pattern of text to be censored in order to maintain containment. During testing, up to 5 class-D personal with documented writing samples can be temporarily reassigned to this project until a new pattern is determined. A list of appropriate class-D personal is to be maintained by the lead containment coordinator.

A full copy of the original article is to be housed as an electronic document on standard removable storage media (currently, a read-only USB flash drive), contained in a box in the housing site's "safe" storage room.

Description
SCP-XXX is a fictional article stored in the SCP database, in the style of a set of containment procedures complete with procedures, a description, and a test log, describing an immortal semi-reptilian entity.

Reading the article causes in the reader to experience various psychological effects.
These effects can be temporary or permanent, and appear to be loosely associated with the content of the fictional article.

Consistently, in addition to other effects the effected parties display a degraded ability to write cohesive works either fictional or non-fictional, and display a lack of interest in re-gaining those abilities for a period of between 4 days to 3 years. After the period has passed, effected parties justify their lack of interest with a variety of excuses, and none to date have expressed regret or remorse over the "lost" ability.

Notably, all negative effects cease if the reader is caused to forget reading the article.

Disovery:
The article was written on August 2nd, 2008, by a junior researcher "in an attempt to mock the work of <his> peers", and was discovered to contain the anomaly by an investigation after several cases of workplace violence and breech of protocol were reported across the foundation.
Notably, *all* researchers at Site 19 remembered the subject of the article as though it were an actual item held in containment at the site, though none could recall when they last heard ofit.

The article was backed up and removed from the database on May 4th, 2008 following the investigation's discovery of the anomaly. Four days later on May 8th, an identical article was found in the database with a different SCP designation. This article was also removed, with the same result four days later on May 12th. Full censorship of the article was attempted, and four days later on May 16th the censorship was found to be entirely removed. Experiments involving partial censorship were undertaken, and on July 25th 2008 a pattern of censorship was discovered which prevented the negative effects of SCP-XXX without resulting in its reversion or it being reposed.

During the testing period, several researchers were effected by SCP-XXX without being severe enough cases to catch the attention of the containment team. Articles written by these researchers continue to be discovered. Though they have not shown the same anonymous effects as SCP-XXX, re-writing these articles is still strongly suggested as they are consistently substandard SCP articles.
