SCP-7728
Object Class: Neutralized
Special Containment Procedures: No containment required.
Object Description: SCP-7728 appears to be an ordinary VHS, seemingly worn from age, though upon further inspection SCP-7728 appears to have a distorted aura around it which obscures the vision of the person of which inspects it. No Foundation personnel have been able to identify the cause of the aura, nor have they identified any side effects of viewing or entering the aura. Upon placing the VHS into a player, the player will immediately go up in flames and the TV connected, if there is one, will begin to display an image of a nuclear warning and the date 1906, followed by a recording of a man staring blankly into the camera. After between 2.3 to 3.7 minutes the camera in the recording will turn around, displaying the room which the VHS has been played in, regardless of if there is any recording device in the room or not. Any attempts to view organic matter in the room has been unsuccessful though moving an object in the room will show the object moving. The VHS player and the VHS appear to become invincible once playing, regardless of if it is playing on a TV or not, out of the player the VHS is not invincible and is able to be destroyed by normal means such as a hammer or corrosive fluids; see Addendum 1A. SCP-7728 appears to be capable of regeneration after its destruction, though it does not appear in the location where it was destroyed and instead where it was likely created and found in a basement of a home in , . The origin of SCP-7728 is unknown, as all of the residents of the home it was found in are all presumed dead due to the date, though it appears to not be from the same dimension as the one which the Foundation have located it in. Any attempts to destroy SCP-7728 using another SCP whilst it is in use have been unsuccessful despite a single attempt, which SCP-7728 has not regenerated from, see Addendum 2A.
Addendum 1A: Subject, D-7728-1A is instructed to place SCP-7728 into the provided, non anomalous VHS player which is connected to a TV only visible to the Subject. Upon placing the VHS into the player, the Subject begins to display distress and is instructed to attempt to destroy the VHS into the player, he is instructed to attempt to destroy both the VHS and player, of which he declines; after being reminded that he will be terminated if non-compliant, the Subject takes a hammer to the VHS player with no effect to the player or VHS. The Subject is instructed to then unplug the TV and attempt to destroy the VHS, which he does, also to no effect to the player or VHS. After unplugging both the TV and taking the VHS out of the player, the VHS is able to be entirely destroyed, though resistant, as its anomalous powers appear to only be effective when in a player with or without a display device connected.
Addendum 2A: SCP-7728 was inserted in a VHS player and the player was placed in the containment cell of SCP-106 on the chest of a D class subject, when SCP-106 attempted to get to the D class, SCP-7728 was destroyed by SCP-106's corrosive abilities and has since not been recovered.
