Special containment procedures: SCP-4862 is to be sealed in a 5Meter by 5Meter by 4Meter concrete container in site ███. At no time is any person to enter SCP-4862’s container alone and without 2/4862 clearance or higher. Testing of SCP-4862 requires 4/4862 clearance or higher.

Description: SCP 4862 is a dirty mattress of unknown origin. When a living thing sits on the mattress they are restrained and the mattress transports them to an alternate dimension. No one or thing has ever returned from this dimension. SCP-4862 also has a memetic property where if an individual gets within a 5 Meter radius around it with the need to sit on it. Testing is ongoing to see if it can affect multiple people at once. After incident [REDACTED], A proposal for a thaumiel class reassignment: Denied until further research has been performed.

SCP 4862 was discovered in [REDACTED] on [REDACTED] in an abandoned house that was scheduled to be used as practice for local fire services. The Foundation became aware of SCP 4862 when the fire chief of the local fire station started rambling about a “cursed mattress”. Foundation agents recovered fire chief Adam from his home in [REDACTED]. Chief Adam was interviewed and given class B amnestics, see Interview log SCP-4862-01. SCP 4862 was then recovered and moved to Site ███.

At first, it was believed that SCP 4862 could only affect non-anomalous objects but after a class 1 containment breach, it was discovered that SCP 4862 could also affect other SCPs.

Foreword: Dr. █████ is interviewing Fire chief Adam about SCP-4862.

Dr. █████: Please state your name.

Chief Adam: Um ████ Adam. who are you and where am I?

Dr. █████: We’ll get to that in a moment. What can you tell me about this “cursed mattress” you been talking about?

Chief Adam: NO, Not that. I don’t want to talk about it. That thing, whatever it is, is not real, it can’t be! [Chief Adam becomes visibly distressed]
Dr. █████: Sir, please calm down and just tell me all you know, if you tell me what you know then I may be able to help you.
Chief Adam: [is quite for 3 minutes and calms down] Alright but please promise me one thing first.
Dr. █████: ok, what?
Chief Adam: If I tell you about it, you will get rid of it, I don’t care how just get rid of it. I don’t ever want to see it again.
Dr. █████: I promise.
Chief Adam: *sigh* ok, I sent a squad to perform an inspection at [REDACTED] before we used it as practice for live-fire drills. But I never heard back from them, so I went with the second squad to look for them.
Dr. █████: Alright what did you find when you got there.
Chief Adam: uh well we found the truck but not the squad and they were nowhere on the grounds outside of the building. After a while, I decided that since we were already there, we should do the inspection.
Dr. █████: Okey, what did you find in the house?
Chief Adam: Um almost nothing at first…. there wasn’t even any furniture in the place. I sent Smith and James to check the second-floor while we checked the first. After we finished with the first floor, um I ask Smith over the radio if they were done with the second. But I didn’t get a reply, uh so I sent Johnson to check on them and told him to stay in constant contact with me.
Dr. █████: And what happened then?
Chief Adam: … Johnson went up to the second floor and he checks the um first two rooms and didn’t find them, but when he went into the third room he started acting strangely.

Dr. █████: How so?
Chief Adam: Um he said that he felt like sitting on this mattress that was in the middle of the room and then I lost contact with him.
Dr. █████: Alright, what did you do next?
Chief Adam: I um I tried to get Johnson back on the radio… but I wasn’t able to, so Miller and I went up to check on him and uh we found no sign of Johnson or the rest of the squad that went missing…. When we uh checked the room with the mattress I started feeling… Strange. I.. I sound crazy don’t I?
Dr. █████: Not at all, Adam. Before you continue on can you describe the feeling?
Chief Adam: Uh yea sure, well um it was almost the need to sit on the mattress and I started feeling tired as well but it was weak like… Like an afterthought. Miller must have felt it as well because um he said that he was tired and started walking towards the mattress. I.. I tried to stop him and he pushed me away and continued walking towards it. [Adams starts to sob lightly] then when… When he sat on it he… No no I must have been seeing things because he can’t be… Can’t be…
Dr. █████: He can’t be what?
Chief Adam: GONE he.. he just disappeared, Like he was never there. I was so scared that I ran to the truck and drove away from there as fast as I could. Please if you can, you have to find a way to get them back, please!
Dr. █████: We will try. Thank you, Mr. Adam, for your time. you are free to leave.
