Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be stored in a standard containment locker at site-19. Any testing of SCP-XXXX requires Level 3 approval.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a rubber ball, weighing 420 grams with a circumference of 68 centimeters. It's appearance is that of a standard association football ball. SCP-XXXX's material appears to be standard polyurethane, but any attempts to puncture SCP-XXXX have been unsuccessful. Since containment in 20██, SCP-XXXX has remained inflated at a stable pressure of 9.923 psi with no discernible deflation.
SCP XXXX will cause any spectators of a game played with SCP-XXXX to imprint onto one of the opposing teams. When using SCP-XXXX to play any competitive game continuously, spectators will begin exhibiting anomalous dislike and animosity towards the opposing team and the opposing team's supporters. After approximately 25 minutes, spectators will begin a process of attempting to directly sabotage the opposing team, even taking part in the game, usually causing the game to fall apart and end.
Subjects affected by SCP-XXXX's effect will, even when forcefully prevented from harming the opposing team, harbor malicious and aggressive thoughts and intents towards their opposing team members. This effect has been observed to last indefinitely, even after ██ years.
This phenomena has been observed in any competitive activity SCP-XXXX has been used for, even those that would not traditionally be classified as "sports". The only necessary factors for the manifestation of SCP-XXXX's effect are that it is used as an active part for the full extent of the game, and that there are at least two opposing teams. The effect has been observed with as many as 13 teams. The upper limit to the team number is theorized to be the understanding of the spectators as to who their opposing team is.
Immunity to SCP-XXXX's effect has not been observed. Further testing is necessary. No lower or upper age limit has been determined (see test XXXX-52) and no effect of prior relationships between members of opposing teams has been observed (see interview log).
Addendum XXXX-1: Phases of SCP-XXXX's effect
Phase 1 (0-6 minutes), "Friendly" Phase
All instances of SCP-XXXX-1 act normally, with little variation on normal personalities. Spectators relatively friendly, light insults and chants might ensue but these are usually hard to discern from test group play.
Phase 2 (6-14 minutes) "Competitive" Phase
Game becomes more intense, players still relatively non-violent. This phase is usually quite silent, with opposing teams no longer talking.
Phase 3 (14-25 minutes) "Aggressive" Phase
Players become noticeably more intense in their playing. Tackling and illegal moves taken to intentionally hurt other players common in this phase, particularly in physical games. Insults and threats are common.
Phase 4 (25-29 minutes) "Violent" Phase
The game will eventually lead to one of the players striking another, after which the game effectively stops as both teams attack each other. Many methods of attack have been observed, as subjects will use whatever tools they have at their disposal, but most commonly SCP-XXXX altercations are fought unarmed. Phase 4 ends after only one team has surviving members.
Addendum XXXX-2: Test Logs
The following is an incomplete list of experiments regarding SCP-XXXX
Test XXXX-03
Activity: Standard Association Football game (2 Teams of 11, Team "Alpha" and Team "Beta")
Last phase completed: 4 ("Violent")
Results: Team "Beta" wins 2-1. G
Test XXXX-07
Activity: Standard Game of Rugby (2 teams of 15, team "Alpha" and team "Beta")
Last phase completed: 3 ("Aggressive")
Results: Game is stopped at 24 minutes and 12 seconds. Players of both teams show malicious intent towards the other team, and staff has a hard time keeping the two teams separate.
Notes: I think we stopped this game right at the limit. A second more and it would've hit Phase 4. Though, it seems the time bounces around a fair bit. Must be down to the personalities of the subjects, so this thing isn't just opposing its affect indescribably and similarly on everyone. The personalities of the subjects has some effect -Reseacher O'Connell
Test XXXX-08
Activity: Standard Game of Rugby (2 teams of 15, team "Alpha" and team "Beta")
Last phase completed: 2 ("Competitive")
Results: Game is stopped at 24 minutes and 12 seconds. Players of both teams are reluctant to shake each others hands post-game, but show no violent intent. Teams easily separate.
Test XXXX-15
Activity: 12 D-Class personnel asked to pass SCP-XXXX around by kicking. No division into teams or points to be made.
Last phase completed: N/A
Results: Activity is stopped after 37 minutes. No effect observed.
Test XXXX-16
Activity: 12 D-Class personnel asked to pass SCP-XXXX around by kicking. Subjects are told that whoever passes the ball the most wins.
Last phase completed: 4 ("Violent")
Results: Last survivor is subject D-26203 after 31 minutes.
Notes: Seems to be the only vital factor is the addition of a points system. Competition itself triggers SCP-XXXX -Researcher O'Connel
Test XXXX-35
Activity: Standard game of the board game "Monopoly" between 5 D-Class subjects. SCP-XXXX is marked with the number 500 and told to be used as a standard 500 dollar note in game.
Last phase completed: 4 ("Violent")
Results: Last survivor is subject D-59321 after 29 minutes.
Test XXXX-52
Activity: [DATA EXPUNGED]
Last phase completed: 4 ("Violent")
Results: [DATA EXPUNGED]

<Begin Log>
Dr Morris: Thank you for joining me. How are you feeling today, D-2302?
D-2302: I'm alright I suppose.
Dr Morris: This is just a standard pre-test assessment of your mental state. Do you mind if I ask you a few questions?
D-2302: Do I have any say in the matter?
Dr Morris: What is your -
D-2302: Suppose not.
Dr Morris: How would you characterize your relationship with D-50521?
D-2302: Huh?
Dr Morris: Mr. Richards. Jake.

Dr Morris: You never had say…altercations? Fights?
D-2302:: Oh, all the time yeah.
Dr Morris: Recently? Do they often get violent?
D-2302:: Nothing too bad. I mean, that's just how we deal with stuff. We like to measure each other. Plus, I like to keep him tough, you know? Just be as hard as I can to him so he's ready for anything out there. Y'know?
Dr Morris: So you feel protective towards him?
D-2302: Oh yeah, protective as hell.
Dr Morris: You wouldn't -
D-2302: Listen, anyone harms him, that's it. I don't care. I'll give it back. Double it.
Dr Morris: Thank you, D-2302. That will be all.

D-2302: FUCK HIM! SHOW ME WHERE HE IS SO I CAN KILL HIM, SO I CAN MAKE HIM SUFFER, THAT (D-2302 proceeds to shout unintelligible obscenities for the next 10 minutes, any further attempts at conversation are unsuccessful)
