Item #: SCP-5039

Object Class: Keter

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-5039 is currently believed to be contained. It is to be kept in a specially modified humanoid containment cell of which the floor is lined with at 0.3 meters of water to allow SCP-5039's location to be seen by its footsteps. The current subject of SCP-5039's hunt is to be kept in the cell as well, and given food and water through a chute in the top of the cell. A bed, desk and chair are kept in the cell for the subject. To encourage mental stability in the subject, cards and books are to be provided, but no device with a reflective screen can be provided at the time, such as a TV or computer. The door on SCP-5039's cell it to have three rows of doors, creating two airlock systems that will guarantee SCP-5039 will be detected by hyper-specific heat-sensors preset to notify staff and disallow any of the following doors to be opened. As there is no way to move SCP-5039 back to its cell, staff must wait until it wanders back to its cell as determined by the censors.
Under no circumstances can any personnel assigned to SCP-5039 wear any reflective clothing or reflective jewelry.
Description: SCP-5039 is a humanoid clockwork figure, resembling a ballerina constructed mainly out of various scraps of metal. It stands 2 meters tall, slightly taller than the average human due to its legs tapering into fine, needle-like points. Despite the impossibility of its weight being held up by this thickness, there has never been any accounts of give or fracturing of the metal. SCP-5039's origins are unknown, and detailed observation of the figure are impossible due to its behavior. SCP-5039 is a predatory construct, hunting down prey over an indefinite amount of time. It does so by following directly behind them, generally found to be 160°-200° directly behind them, using some sort of predictive computation to make it impossible to ever be seen by its prey (Hereafter refereed to as "Subject". To those around the subject are unable to see SCP-5039, but both are able to sense SCP-5039 by the clicking its footsteps produce. SCP-5039 will only strike when the subject is alone and looks in a reflective surface, most commonly a mirror. The exact method of which SCP-5039 kills the subject is unknown, but examination of the corpse indicates the use of its needle-like legs to puncture through the heart, resulting in a clean, almost instant death of the subject. SCP-5039 has consistently left a note on or near the corpse of the subject, though the source of the paper or ability to write is currently unknown. At this point, SCP-5039 will begin to hunt to last person that had seen the subject alive, the new subject usually beginning to hear the footsteps within a day. SCP-5039 came into Foundation custody after a series of deaths in France fell under strangely similar conditions, moving too quickly and without notice to be a non-anomalous human. The Foundation managed to trap SCP-5039 by finding its current subject and leaving them in SCP-5039's current containment cell.
