Item #: SCP-4077
Object Class: Keter
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-4077 is to be contained within a powerful magnetic field. The containment area must also be constantly filled with a supercooled atomic gas at a temperature near absolute zero. SCP-4077 can only be detected within the infrared range of the electromagnetic spectrum.
Description: SCP-4077 is composed entirely of molecular light. Wavelength falling within the infrared ranges of between 890 – 980nm have been recorded at room temperature. It is currently unknown what threat level the subject poses as preliminary research has only recently begun. However, it currently exhibits benign behavior.
Potential applications of research could be a new form of matter that could be used to manufacture incredibly lightweight materials that would be imperceptable to the naked eye as well as acting as highly portable surfaces. This could also open up new avenues for containment of less material SCP subjects but more research is needed to assess the feasibility of this.
Addendum I: Minor fluctuations in the heat signature emitted by the subject. It is unknown where the energy for such a fluctuation was obtained but we will continue to monitor the subject and make more regular readings in all wavelengths.
Addendum II: We decided to test the reaction to photon pairs of a specific polarization being fired into the subject. The initial photons exited with their polarisations changed. By measuring the connection between the polarization we were able to show that the photonic molecules that compose SCP-4077 are entangled. Rapid expansion was also observed along the path of the photons as evidenced by emissions of infrared light far exceeding the energy input. This seems to suggest that the subject somehow holds excess energy within itself.
Addendum III: Continued experimentation using higher and higher energy photons have uncovered surprising discoveries. Reaching into X-ray wavelengths has seemingly caused the subject to exhibit what appears to be violent behavior. This outburst managed to breach the magnetic confinement and damaged a wall of the facility. Further testing has been suspended until further notice and we will return to monitoring and study for the time being.
