Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX-1 through 6 are to be contained in individual Standard Containment Cells in the southern wing of Site-187. Each is to be placed on a tripod facing one of the following approved cardinal directions:
- North
- North-east
- East
- South-east
- South-west
- West
Following Incident XXXX-A1, SCP-XXXX-1 through 6 may not be pointed south under any circumstances. SCP-XXXX-1 through 6 are to have their focal point set to infinity, and their shutter angle, aperture, and ISO set to the optimal settings for visual quality.1
SCP-XXXX-1 through 6 must not be moved from these positions, or have their settings altered, outside of testing.
Foundation web crawlers are to search Ebay, Amazon, mpb.com, and other relevant sellers of second-hand cameras. Foundation personnel are to be alerted to listings that match all of the following criteria:
- Mismatch between the lens and body manufacturers
- Lens maximum aperture of T/5.6
- Listed maximum shutter speed of 1/676
- Firmware version listed being non-existent
- Lens focal length listed as a non-standard value or listed in centimetres (cm)
These instances are to be located and taken to Foundation custody by MTF Scannán-2 ("Captured Moments"). Authors of these listings are to be amnesticised.
Recordings from SCP-XXXX-1 through 6 are to be stored on encrypted hard-disk drives and stored in Standard Containment Lockers in Site-187. Recordings must be made in locations which have been pre-approved by applications to Cognitohazardous Specialist Fiachra Ó Íomhair. Recordings must not be viewed without prior approval from Fiachra Ó Íomhair and Senior Researcher Aiobheann Ní Conchobhair, and, following Incident-XXXX-A1, the presence of an armed unit of MTF Scannán-2 ("Captured Moments").

Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: A 5000km2 exclusion zone has been established around SCP-XXXX; exploration and research teams that come within 100 kilometres of this exclusion zone are to be re-directed to their basecamp under the guise of "seismic activity".
Description: SCP-XXXX is a large mountain located at the southern end of the Transantarctic Mountain Range resembling a right angle triangle with a curved hypotenuse. Geological studies have indicated that since the late 16th century, SCP-XXXX's mass has been slowly concentrating beneath its peak, at the far west of the mountain, with no non-anomalous geological explanation. The rate of transfer has been accelerating since the 1980s. As of 2019, 44% of SCP-XXXX's mass was concentrated beneath its peak.
Addendum-XXXX-001: Geological studies have indicated significant shifts in mass on the following dates, amongst others:
- 33 CE
- December 1792
- 1873 - 1879
- 24/10/1929
- 19/10/1987
- 15/09/2008
- 20/02/2020
Addendum-XXXX-002: On 06/09/2020, GoI-3425 ("Anochists") launched an assault on the west side of SCP-XXXX during which an estimated 30% of SCP-XXXX's mass was lost. Members of GoI-3425 planted a nuclear explosive at the base of SCP-XXXX's west side and detonated it after a retreat. Following this, world economic output suffered a decline of 26%.
The Anochists is a group of anomalous anarchists with strong links to the Serpent's Hand. They focus on using anomalous objects and individuals to incite revolution and bring about the end of capitalism. They contain a wide range of ideologies, with the largest number being anarchists. They have no more than 50 members worldwide.
Anochist members can propose "attack plans" for direct action against government, corporate, and pro-capitalist entities, most often making use of anomalies in the process.
Seminar idea - Decoding Metaphor and Meaning
Ideally two short articles would be analysed during the seminar (short as in >800 words), one focusing on an interpretation of the events/what happens/what it means, and another on the subtext/metaphor of the article. It would be possible to do both with one article if we can find one that would do it well.
Options
- 5812
- 5304
- She Waits
- Inside the Wall
The aim is to teach the principles of breaking a text down and using the constituent parts to evidence a conclusion. None of the analysis involved would be particularly complex or deep; it's an introduction and introductory analysis should be the prime aspect being taught. The principles, that can be applied to more complex analysis.
1. What's the purpose of analysis?
Why do we analyse text? What can we learn from it?
2. What do we analyse?

Description: SCP-XXXX is a section of space measuring approximately 8 x 109km3 in size. The centre of SCP-XXXX acts as a gravitational pull, exerting a force equivalent to 1.5G. As a result of this force, SCP-XXXX contains a combination of gasses of a density comparable to Earth's atmosphere, consisting of the following gasses:
- INSERT
- FUNKY
- GASSES
- HERE
- PLEASE
In addition, a number of loose pieces of paper have been discovered within SCP-XXXX, a selection which are visible in Addendum-XXXX-001.
Narrative: What is it and how do I do it?
Anyone who spends enough time in #thecritters will recognise the following interaction to some degree or another:
<JustStartingOut>: am I in the right place to get critique on my idea?
<CritterMcCrit>: You are
<JustStartingOut>: CritterMcCrit: would you review my SCP?
<CritterMcCrit>: Alright, what's the pitch?
<JustStartingOut>: it's a massive egg with a door on it and a child walks out of the door once every 9 months
<CritterMcCrit>: Ok, have you got any sort of narrative in mind for this idea?
<JustStartingOut>: yeah, well I was thinking I could have like some interview logs and maybe an exploration log
<CritterMcCrit>: That's not a narrative
<JustStartingOut>: what's a narrative then?
<greenbutterfly>: whats the story you want to tell?
<JustStartingOut>: an interview log and an exploration log of the object
CritterMcCrit sighs heavily
The specifics may change, but the underlying confusion is a common one - mistaking the storytelling devices we have access to in the SCP format with the inclusion of a story at all. So, let's clear up the confusion. What is a narrative, and how do we write one?
Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: Personnel with symptoms matching those of SCP-XXXX are to report to the nearest Foundation medical centre for emergency surgery.
Foundation personnel are to monitor civilian medical institutions for SCP-XXXX and amnesticise any medical professionals who discover SCP-XXXX.
Civilians discovered to have experienced SCP-XXXX are to be amnesticised. Individuals who are repeatedly affected by SCP-XXXX may be remanded to Foundation custody at Site-32 following approval of Senior Researcher Dr. Ebha McCaffrey; such individuals may be operated on with her assent.
Instances of SCP-XXXX-1 are to be contained in a Standard Containment Locker at Site-32.
Description: SCP-XXXX is an anomalous phenomenon during which a disembodied human hand, designated SCP-XXXX-1, manifests inside the thoracic cavity of a human subject. During SCP-XXXX, instances of SCP-XXXX-1 seize hold of the heart and begin to compress it at regular intervals, reaching an average peak of 150-200 compressions a minute. This has been associated with a number of other symptoms, including difficulty breathing, paranoia, hyperventilation, and nausea.
After an indeterminate period2, SCP-XXXX-1 de-manifests and the heart rate begins to slow. Medical examinations performed by Dr. Ebha McCaffrey have indicated that this leaves no lasting damage on the thoracic cavity, heart, or other internal organs. Of note, if SCP-XXXX-1 is removed during SCP-XXXX, it does not de-manifest.
SCP-XXXX-1 has no notable deviations from standard human hands beyond its disembodied state. It has been exsanguinated and ends before the wrist. DNA and fingerprint testing have been unable to place an origin for SCP-XXXX-1, although both show no particular abnormalities from expected results.
SCP-XXXX is most common amongst individuals of lower socioeconomic status, those of marginalised social groups, and those with a history of mental illness; however, instances have been noted in humans of all social classes and groups. Notably, SCP-XXXX is more common amongst Foundation personnel than the average population.
Discovery: SCP-XXXX was discovered by Dr. Ebha McCaffrey during emergency surgery on a member of MTF Scannán-2 ("Captured Moments") who was struck in the chest by shrapnel during a mission. During said surgery, an instance of SCP-XXXX-1 was discovered within the thoracic cavity and removed for further study. Later investigations concluded there was no connection between the mission carried out and the manifestation of SCP-XXXX-1, and SCP-XXXX was catalogued.
Addendum-XXXX-001: On 6/7/2020 at 12:07 pm, Foundation researcher Dr. John McIntyre experienced SCP-XXXX. He reported to Dr. Ebha McCaffrey 10 minutes later and entered emergency surgery at 12:25 pm. The surgery was performed by Dr. McCaffrey, and was unsuccessful; Dr. McIntyre suffered long term damage to his chest, with extensive scarring. Dr. McCaffrey was disciplined by Site Director Stephen Ford and received her first formal write up.
Addendum-XXXX-002: On 21/7/2020, Site-32 experienced a large number of SCP-XXXX events at once. Dr. Ebha McCaffrey made the executive decision to attempt to perform surgical procedures on as many affected subjects as possible. Three Foundation medical personnel successfully performed surgery on six subjects, of which one, Junior Researcher Stephanie Healey, died following complications.
Addendum-XXXX-003: On 10/8/2020, PoI-0638 (remanded in Foundation custody since 4/6/2020) experienced a series of severe SCP-XXXX events and requested emergency surgery. Dr. McCaffrey could not be found to make a decision on this case, and so the decision was delegated to Site Director Stephen Ford, who elected to allow the surgery. Dr. McCaffrey was reprimanded by Site Director Ford.
Addendum-XXXX-004: On 15/8/2020, Senior Researcher Rhys Thompson experienced SCP-XXXX and reported to Dr. Ebha McCaffrey for emergency surgery. Dr. McCaffrey attempted to find alternative medical personnel to carry out the surgery, but none were available. During the surgery, Dr. McCaffrey suffered a severe SCP-XXXX event, with compressions per minute reaching a peak of 250. Following this, an investigation into Dr. McCaffrey's responsibilities indicated a lack of appropriate duty management. She was subsequently placed on mandatory paid leave for a minimum of two months.

things to do:
consider being more explicit with the meaning
explore Ebha's mental state more?
give more context on event in addendum 2
explore new formats that better convey the emotion
consider expanding length
(change to report w/ commentary from Ebha?)
Malyce's suggestion:
20:52:46 <• MalyceGraves> Make it an allegory for Trump/Fauci.
20:53:14 <• MalyceGraves> Make Dr. Ebhra actually good at their job, but Director whoever really bad at it
20:53:37 <• MalyceGraves> So outbreaks of SCP-XXXX keep happening at the site because Director whoever sucks at their job
20:54:40 <• MalyceGraves> Instead of it being a public thing, it is a series of infections that are limited to SCP sites.
20:55:00 <• MalyceGraves> And have other sites report similar rise/fall in infection rates
20:55:11 <• MalyceGraves> match the covid curves in other countries
Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Neutralised
Archived Containment Procedures: The area around and including SCP-XXXX has been purchased by Foundation front company Special Crops Provisional. Given SCP-XXXX's low-level, generally positive effects and that it is unlikely to break the Veil, containment of SCP-XXXX has been deemed low priority. Foundation personnel are to monitor the area for civilians who enter and remain within the boundaries of effect for more than an hour. Such civilians are to be removed under the pretence of trespassing on private property.
Description: SCP-XXXX was a small area located in Fermanagh, Ireland, affected by a weak mind-altering effect that caused individuals within the area of effect to experience a change in their emotional state. Individuals who entered SCP-XXXX reported a decrease in stress and anxiety, as well as an increase in general happiness. The strength of SCP-XXXX's effect varied throughout the day, with it being strongest near sunrise and sunset.
SCP-XXXX is believed to have manifested in February of 2017. Foundation agents first investigated it on the 19/02/2017, wherein they discovered SCP-XXXX's primary effect. A secondary investigation on the 14/02/2017 revealed SCP-XXXX's secondary effect: the manifestation of regular objects at SCP-XXXX centre. These objects generally appeared for a period of 20-60 minutes and subsequently disappeared with no lingering effects. The manifestation of these objects was inconsistent but generally occurred at least once a week. The exact objects and number of objects differed between manifestations, with three primary profiles being recognised. Below is a table listing the objects that appeared in each of these profiles.
Profile 1
This was the most common profile and rarely had any variations. During profile 1 manifestations, SCP-XXXX's primary effect was noticeably increased.
| Object | Description | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| A flask of peppermint and liquorice tea | Green in colour, with a maximum capacity of 500ml. Slightly damaged condition with some dents and scratches. | None. |
| A bicycle | Red in colour, with a damaged gear system that allowed the chain to disconnect from the central gear. Worn tyres. | None |
| A bicycle helmet | Black in colour. A number of scratches were present on the surface of the helmet. | In 15% of profile 1 manifestations, the helmet did not appear. |
| A Chromebook laptop | Contains a number of documents relating to school work, creative writing, and the production of a number of short films | None |
| An iPhone 7 | Black. After 20/08/2018, the screen was noted to be severely damaged, with a number of cracks and glass missing in portions. bad line | On the 20/08/2018, the phone manifested in profile 1 as standard with severe damage to the screen including cracks and missing portions of glass. Traces of human blood could be found on the screen. probably cut this line |
| A pair of Apple earphones | White. | None. |
| A notebook and pen | Red, leather-bound. Pen varied between manifestations but was most often a metal ballpoint. Contained various notes and writings from the author, typically *insert what type of writing**. The number of pages with writing increased between manifestations. | None. |
Profile 2
Profile 2 was rarer, occurring in only 5% of total manifestations. During Profile 2 manifestation, SCP-XXXX's primary effect was not active and was replaced by an inverted effect that caused an increase in anxiety, stress, and general unhappiness.
| Object | Description | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| A bicycle | Red in colour, with a damaged gear system that allowed the chain to disconnect from the central gear, and worn tyres. | None. |
| A notebook and pen | Notebook was a dark grey. Pen differed between manifestations but was typically a plain ballpoint. The contents of this notebook differed noticeably from that of Profile 1 and were typically darker and more emotionally charged. The number of pages with writing increased between manifestations. | None. |
Profile 3
This profile only manifested once, on the 30/09/2019, and consisted of a single object; a thank-you card with the following text:
Thank you for holding my hand when I could not see.
Following this, SCP-XXXX's primary and secondary effects ceased, and on the 19/10/2019, it was reclassified to neutralised.

Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: Site-32 personnel experiencing the symptoms of a heart attack are to report to the medical bay for immediate surgery.
Description: SCP-XXXX is an ongoing phenomenon in which Foundation personnel stationed at Site-32 experience many of the symptoms of a severe heart attack without any medically recognisable causes. Autopsies conducted on victims have indicated no blockages in the coronary arteries in 90% of heart attacks experienced at Site-32, indicating that the cause is anomalous. Research into potential causes is ongoing.
Discovery: SCP-XXXX was documented after a number of personnel at Site-32 experienced heart attacks without medical explanation. In subsequent autopsies, patterns of bruising consistent with pressure from a human hand were discovered on the hearts of these individuals.
Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is contained within a standard Safe-Class Containment Locker.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a severed human hand found within the thoracic cavity of Junior Researcher Fiachra McConnell following his death by cardiac arrest. SCP-XXXX is believed to be otherwise non-anomalous.
Addendum-XXXX-1: Following internal proposals for further analysis, a full autopsy was conducted on the cadaver of Junior Researcher McConnell. No anomalous properties were noted, with the exception of a bruising pattern on his heart that matched that of compression from SCP-XXXX. Research into the cause for this is ongoing.
Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures:
Description: SCP-XXXX is a phenomenon in which human hands begin to grow within the human thoracic cavity. The exact mechanism by which this occurs is unknown, as are the exact stages of growth, however, a general pattern has been established.
SCP-XXXX begins with the spontaneous manifestation of the palm of the hand. Over the course of approximately two weeks, it grows four fingers and a thumb in line with standard human biology. From here, it moves via unknown means to the heart and attaches itself to it; SCP-XXXX subsequently begins to compress the heart. This usually triggers cardiac arrest in subjects and can also lead to internal bleeding and rupture of the heart. SCP-XXXX has, thus far, a 100% mortality rate.
After expiration of the affected subject, SCP-XXXX continues to grow from the wrist outwards until it is too large for the thoracic cavity, at which point it begins to push itself out of the chest, usually resulting in its rupture.
Critters:
cybersqyd

Item #: SCP-3967
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-3967 is contained within a Safe-Class Containment Locker.
Description: SCP-3967 is a severed human hand found within the thoracic cavity of Senior Researcher Fiachra McConnell following his death by sudden cardiac arrest. SCP-3967 has a number of signs of advanced arthritis, including a reduced range of motion, swelling, and hand muscles seized in a manner that indicates cramping.
Addendum-3967-1: Following proposals for further analysis, a full autopsy was conducted on the cadaver of Senior Researcher McConnell. Autopsy results include a bruising pattern on his heart matching that of compression from SCP-3967. Research into the cause for this is ongoing.

Page Type: SCP Article
Genre (Optional): Horror
Page Layout (Optional): Containment procedures, description, interview logs, exploration logs, test logs
Elevator Pitch: SCP-XXXX is a super small monster with disproportionate limb size. When it sees a human, it's hands expand to three times their normal size and grow long sharp nails made of titanium. It then runs directly at the human whilst emitting a sound too high pitched for humans to hear. It proceeds to [REDACTED] and then absorbs the brain of the human into it's own, growing it's intelligence. It also has pitch black eyes and it's mouth is a perfect circle. It can secrete acid out of it's feet as it runs, which it uses to surround it's prey as it closes it.
Central Narrative: There's gonna be an interview log with it but it won't speak beyond pure tone pitches. There's also an exploration log of it's hut where it lives, and then at the end a test log when the foundation try to destroy it because it's too hard to contain and super dangerous.
Hook/Attention-Grabber: It's not just a thing that kills you with no way to stop it.
Additional Notes: It hates the Foundation because they made it in secret to use it to destroy SCP-096 and SCP-682.
This is my first SCP so please be nice!
Creating a Narrative Workshop hosted by DrAkimoto - Notes
The Basics
- The definition of a narrative
- a message that tells the particulars of an act or occurrence or course of events. For our purposes - the story you're going to tell.
- Why do we need a narrative?
- Narratives are what keeps things interesting on-site. This is the reason we have dozens of similar anomalies/themes and yet still have totally unique stories made from them.
- Because we are a fiction writing community, not just a bunch of nerds listing off weird objects we made up.
- Telling a unique story in each article is what stops us from being a group who list weird items, and makes us writers.
- As the site has evolved, it's one of the essential standards we have developed.
Discussion
- Attendees were asked what they think makes a good narrative. Here are a sampling of their answers:
- Quadraginta: What makes a story good imo is execution. Doesn't matter how simple or how complex it is. As long as it's told well, it should be good. As for executing it in an SCP article…
- Kranz: So basically it's having a good way to tell or explain a story, that could have been explored multiple times but make your way unique and attractive right?
- LonLangLin: I personally don't take this as too much of a factor, but I've found that characters seem to be quite important, to say the least
- chaucer345: I mean stories can be good in lots of ways, but personally my favorite have interesting characters that I remember long after I put it down.
- GlooSoda: As much as I also enjoy simple SCP pages that are short and to the point, something that gets me attached to a piece of writing are characters that have depth to them
- Quadraginta: On one very special occasion, I played a game with, frankly, the most boring one note characters I've ever seen. but the world building was exquisite and made up for it in every way possible.
- WizzBlizz: I find stories a lot more engaging when they create unanswered questions at the start and give you satisfying answers at the end
- MalyceGraves: When it comes to horror I am a big fan of implication-style narratives, because your reader will always be able to develop horror that fits THEM way better than YOU ever will. Imply the horrible thing, let their imagination fill in the gaps. You still have to give them enough to go on, create a framework for their imagination to fill out
- A lot of new authors, and even experienced ones, make the mistake of not implying their narratives heavily enough or not having a compelling conclusion. What are some ways around these issues?
- Quadraginta: It's like painting an abstract picture. Each piece of the story is a piece of the puzzle. One example I can think of is have each character state their perspective and the story as a whole can paint the entire narrative. Like a jigsaw puzzle. And the round bits that fit the jigsaw pieces together can be the article itself. The clinical areas between interviews/incidents/etc.
- chaucer345: One way to make sure each individual article has a compelling conclusion is to have the consequences of the testing or exploration build to something over time. I'm a big fan of slowly increasing pressure.
- Knowing what to put is just as important as knowing what not to put. Every word, line, paragraph, section, should add something.
- Chaucer345 brought up the Japanese concept of Ma, or negative space. What is not there is as important as what is. Sometimes breathing space to let the reader soak in the events can be important, although it's important to ensure that it doesn't drag an article down.
- Quadraginta: How should one work on deciding whether an SCP needs to be more or less complex? Also, how should/can I handle Foundation headcanon?
- Write an idea to completion, as complex as it may be, and then trim out the fat. Have a focus on one solid takeaway, and work on trimming it down so that is as streamlined as it can be.
- Chaucer345 brought up a categorisation of writers: architects and gardeners. Architects plan from the beginning, but gardeners try to follow the natural development of their characters.
- DrAkimoto mentioned they write most of their articles backward, from the conclusion to the premise.
- This helps to ensure that everything builds to the conclusion, and keeps the story thin of excess material.
- Tone is important to keep in mind, it will shape almost everything about your article.
- However, writing is an art form, and it's important to keep in mind that there is no one way to do things.
Questions
- Ethagon: What's a good way to turn something in a new direction when similar narratives already exist on the wiki?
- DrAkimoto: excellent, we have 5000 something articles and sometimes your gonna find stuff that's similar. I think the answer to that question depends on what aspect if the article is similar the anomaly or story. Either way its important to consider all the aspects of your story and the similar and to create differences between them
- Kerfuffle: What do you think separates a good idea from a bad one (except for overpowered self inserts, etc), or is it mainly on execution? What makes some SCPs good even without a direct narrative?
- MalyceGraves: The best advice I can give is to think about the kinds of stories that you enjoy. I think that even poor ideas can be saved with solid execution, but that's the trick, it's difficult to know what is good execution. Stories are constantly being recycled, the old adage of there really being only 7 or so original stories is very true, but that doesn't mean that you can't tell a story that's been told before in a different and interesting way. Reading a lot is the single best way to become a better writer. You have to get experience in taking in narratives that work.
- Skorpt: What about narratives that try to evoke a certain emotion from the reader? Are there any good tips for working with something like that?
- ocuin: Think about what evokes that feeling in you, and then write about that. If it's scary, or sad, or funny to you, then it's a solid start to a story.
- DrAkimoto: I think it depends on the emotion your are trying to evoke, funny articles work better in a short punchy format, while something like dread can benefit from more long form storytelling. Keeping atmosphere, pacing, and overall impact will definitely help with emotional articles.
- WizzBlizz: How do you build interesting characters?
- DrAkimoto: Now that's a loaded question and probably a good idea for it's own seminar. But a big piece of advice that you can apply to most writing is look at what characters you like and work from there. Reading will be your friend
Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: A disinformation campaign targeting the White Cliffs of Dover is to be undertaken by Foundation officials embedded within geological agencies and news organisations; information is to be disseminated that describes the cause for the cliffs erosion mass reduction as hydraulic erosion.
Footage of the White Cliffs of Dover is to be edited prior to public viewing by Foundation AICs embedded in the computer systems of relevant organisations to remove examples of SCP-XXXX.
Damage to the White Cliffs of Dover is to be repaired as far as can be achieved through the filling of holes with durable materials such as metals.
Streptococcus mutans
Description: SCP-XXXX is a species of anomalously enlarged Streptococcus mutans and Lactobacillus bacteria. They are approximately 5 metres in length and have a lifespan of approximately 2,300 years; they reproduce by division once at the end of this lifespan. Their primary habitat is the White Cliffs of Dover in South East England, although small populations have been found on other coastline cliff ranges. Currently, 25 known instances of SCP-XXXX live on the White Cliffs of Dover.
SCP-XXXX instances feed on various flora and fauna found on the cliffs and in the surrounding area. During the feeding process, they ferment the sugars found within their food, a process which releases large amounts of lactic acid. This results in the gradual, but significant, erosion of the cliff face. Over a year, this amounts to approximately 22cm to 30cm of erosion. As a result of SCP-XXXX's reproduction by division, this rate is accelerating.
Addendum-XXXX-001: On the 7/12/2021, a diving team researching undersea geology discovered previously undocumented underwater cliffs in the English Channel. Upon further investigation, multiple instances of SCP-XXXX were found residing on the cliff face. Following this, Foundation officials were alerted and the diving team amnesticised. Further explorations of this cliff range discovered that the cliff edge line matched the shape and size of the White Cliffs of Dover.
Addendum-XXXX-002: On the 15/1/2022, geological survey teams in Madagascar discovered a new material forming large sections of the underground in Madagascar. This team was amnesticised following questioning. The material was situated deep underground and, in comparison to the stone nearer the surface, was much weaker and more flexible, in addition to being largely porous. Secretions matching those of SCP-XXXX were discovered in various areas of the material, and the material was designated SCP-XXXX-A. In an effort to determine the spread of this anomalous material, Foundation teams globally began drilling operations globally. SCP-XXXX-A or evidence of its presence was discovered in the following locations:
- South-east England
- Ireland
- Spain
- Saudi Arabia
- Japan
- Malaysia
- Italy
Addendum-XXXX-003: On the 30/6/2022, exploration teams drilling for oil in the English Channel discovered a small pool of unknown material of a gel-like consistency. This material, designated SCP-XXXX-B after the discovery of genetic material matching SCP-XXXX-A, contained large amounts of glucose, iron, and urea, in addition to elevated amounts of uranium-235, allowing Foundation researchers to date the material to approximately 3.5 billion years ago.

addendum describing the discovery of SCP-XXXX-A on similar cliffs on the south English coast

or imply what killed them?
if this is the lower jaw, where's the upper jaw?
addendum describing another set of cliffs in the sea or something that match to these in some way
addendum describing an earthquake implied to be caused by a heartbeat from one of the giants
Said AICs are also to colour correct footage to remove the disolouration of SCP-XXXX.
SCP-XXXX is the White Cliffs of Dover in the south of England, the primary habit of SCP-XXXX-A. SCP-XXXX-A refers to anomalously enlarged Streptococcus mutans and Lactobacillus bacteria. They are approximately 5 metres in length and live on the side of SCP-XXXX; they have a lifespan of approximately 2,300 years and reproduce by division once at the end of this lifespan.
SCP-XXXX is also undergoing gradual disolouration, from white to yellow. Predictions indicate this could continue until the cliff faces become brown or black. Specific causes for this phenomenon are difficult to pin down, but a number of factors are believed to contribute.
- The remains of pre-maturely expired instances of SCP-XXXX form a plaque on the surface of the cliff face which condenses and eventually calcifies, forming a deposit on the surface and staining it.
- Minerals and heavy metals in the water surrounding SCP-XXXX gradually condense on the surface, staining it various colours. For example, iron leaves a black stain, and cadmium leaves a yellow-brown stain.
- Foundation efforts to fill cavities formed by SCP-XXXX has made use of materials that have stained SCP-XXXX's surface.
anyone feeling up to 450 words on the white cliffs of dover and giant bacteria?
12:09:59 <minminotaur> yeah whatcha got
12:10:18 <+ocuin> Luca funky little SCP draft
12:10:28 <minminotaur> yeah hit me
12:10:31 I'm in a very long queue
12:10:32 <+ocuin> Luca http://scp-sandbox-3.wikidot.com/ocuin thanks!
12:11:18 <minminotaur> yeah oo
12:11:42 ok I like the conceit
12:12:02 <+ocuin> Luca nice, that's good to hear :p
12:12:21 <minminotaur> yeah I think it needs to dwell a little longer on each stage of discovery
12:12:35 cos you're batting at something that needs that sense of disbelief
12:12:38 almost in a cheeky way
12:12:43 — +ocuin nods
12:12:49 <minminotaur> yeah like I have trouble imagining five metre bacteria hiding out on the cliff face
12:13:04 and just when I'm getting my head around that, you whack us with bigger reveals
12:13:15 <+ocuin> Luca yeah, i see what you mean
12:13:29 <minminotaur> yeah I'm pretty sure every other geology graduation class in England has hacked rocks out of the white cliffs or something
12:13:32 like it's iconic af
12:14:18 I think we get too comfortable with normalising the anomalous sometimes that we forget to hide it
12:14:27 <+ocuin> Luca yeah, that's fair
12:14:46 <minminotaur> yeah I think there's a lot of potential for capturing that sense of interstitial weirdness with this idea
12:15:03 like how they found forearm length bugs on a remote New Zealand island or something
12:15:12 or banana length pink slugs in a cloud forest
12:15:22 big things just out of sight because nature said fuck you
12:15:30 I would like to see a little of this magic in this piece
12:15:36 — +ocuin nods
12:15:50 <+ocuin> Luca are the implications all clear enough?
12:15:55 <minminotaur> yeah capture that little part of biology's childish wonder
12:15:57 yeah they're clear
12:16:00 theyre just not moving me

12:16:16 <minminotaur> yeah also it's kind of like
12:16:21 you say these are connected
12:16:28 and the scientists clearly think they're connected
12:16:36 because they're subdesignated in this document
12:16:51 but you don't Say how they're connected because…. u need to be cheeky I guess
12:17:02 which is kind of purposely playing dumb in a way
12:17:07 <+ocuin> Luca yeah

12:17:53 I wonder if there's a way to make the article address the train of thought more clearly
12:17:59 just to show that these scientists aren't idiots
12:18:07 <+ocuin> Luca hm
12:18:35 I was trying to come up with ways to imply a form of DNA that could link them more clearly in universe, but i couldn't think of any that wouldn't be super blunt
12:18:38 <minminotaur> yeah because they're clearly not, yet they're hiding information in this document
12:18:50 <+ocuin> Luca yeah
12:18:57 <minminotaur> yeah like the document has been deliberately edited for dramatic effect somehow???
12:19:27 <coldnights> The Lounge User ocuin if you´re gig is that the donver cliffs are giant teeth infected by cariogenic bacteria, why not make the scientists discover giant tooth roots at the end?
12:19:46 <minminotaur> yeah bluntness is not always bad
12:20:16 I think hiding bluntness can crutch unclear or indeterminate concepts
12:20:32 <+ocuin> Luca coldnights: I could, but i worry that would spend too much time on the teeth in particular, when they're just one element of the picture that's being built
12:20:32 <minminotaur> yeah but if u have a jarring concept that holds its own water, bluntness might be fun
12:20:35 daring even!
12:20:39 <+ocuin> Luca that's true
12:20:53 <minminotaur> yeah and this certainly holds its own water
12:21:12 <coldnights> The Lounge User ocuin you could be blunt about the teeth, but ambiguous about the whole picture?
12:21:33 <minminotaur> yeah like if you find it difficult to juggle the Foundationverse's world of hidden magic
12:21:44 with the very blatant, very observable, very powerful idea of cliff teeth
12:21:53 maybe you don't need the Foundationverse to tell that story
12:22:03 but that's another suggestion entirely

12:22:25 <coldnights> The Lounge User what about a submarine-robot that gets inserted into the blood vessels and then travels all the way through the giant?
12:23:05 <+ocuin> Luca minminotaur: would you say this has enough in the way of tension/stakes? i've been told it feels like it's lacking in that department
12:23:34 <minminotaur> yeah I think the idea has innate tension
12:23:39 or like
12:23:46 it's an idea with tension in itself
12:23:48 poetically
12:23:56 and that's very precious
12:24:04 Jazstar → JazSleep
12:24:06 <minminotaur> yeah it doesn't mean you need tension in the plot sense
12:24:07 <+ocuin> Luca cool, that's good to hear at least
12:24:11 <minminotaur> yeah or stakes in the plot sense
12:24:25 but you might need to amp up the description to capture that innate tension of the idea

12:24:40 the scale of it

12:27:30 *compelling the reader to fit it in

Me / You
Do you want to?
Yes.
Are you sure?
Always.
Do we need a countdown?
No. No.
It takes only a touch to start; a flicker of two pulses playing in time. Between them, physically, nothing is conferred. No atoms are altered, no energy is changed. And yet, you can feel it in the air, on your skin, in your breath. It is immediate.
Slowly, and then as if all at once, everything is transferred. For one, they learn the joys of flight, of feeling free of the shackles of the earth and the weight of the world. For the other, they learn the pain of losing a mother, of an aching, gaping, oozing wound at one's core that closes solely and seals never. For both, a million lessons are learned, a billion emotions felt, a trillion memories shared. It is excruciating and wonderful, and many more at once.
Are you ok? We can stop if you'd like.
No, no. I don't want to.
It takes a moment more for the feeling to extend from the fingertips; the veins acting as power cords, sending thoughts, feelings, emotions, from one to the other, and back again. They balance each other and bring to equilibrium what was previously imbalanced. Apart, they are discordant, together they are settled.
As if choreographed to an unspoken beat, the next movement begins in earnest. They shift closer, arms aligned, fingers entwined, eyes locked. Before long, they are sinking into one another, closing distance and suffocating space. There is nothing between anymore; no air breaks their bodies apart, no silence separates them. There are no secrets, no lies, nothing that cannot be reconciled.
I've missed your skin on mine.
Me too.
It has taken time to get here, to know one another so well that distance means nothing and one becomes the other. By now, they are confident in this position. Each knows every curve of the other, every bump and every line, every colour of their skin and the length of every hair. They know all of the other so intimately that memory and vision become one and the same.
They fit together well now, like soft, warm jigsaw pieces that feel painful feelings and think complex thoughts. The finished picture is a deep, warm purple. It is the mix of the two, inseparable now as they dance and wind together into a new and beautiful picture. They are lock and key to a door that hides a single secret: what they will do next.
Can you feel it?
We're nearly there. Soon.
I can't wait.
Me neither.
There is only one step left now. They flow into one another, fusing together to form something new. What will they be together? What will they create? Do they have a name? Desires? Hopes? Dreams? They pause for a second and consider this deficit of information, but soon the concern passes. This is to be discovered, not considered. In time, the pieces will fall in place. Now they are as one, and they awake as such.
Did it work?

13:06:00 <+occultin> Luca i didn't really generate the context or anything, which i should probably do, but that's essentially what i was trying to convey
13:06:55 <%Naevil> so I feel as though that is inherently clear from the start. I didn't feel as though there was much development in the revelation, it was moreso going through the process of the fusion, which I didn't find particularly compelling
13:07:34 — +occultin nods
13:07:40 <%Naevil> like, I was sort of expecting a reason for the fusion to be happening, or at least a motive between the two
13:08:11 I mean, these things aren't /inherently/ damning if you, like, up the body horror or something
13:08:54 it's largely just because a lot of the tale was, for a lack of a better term, "wise-man quotes", I was expecting a bit more to top it off? (edited)
13:09:25 <+occultin> Luca yeah, i see what you mean
13:09:52 <%Naevil> as I feel this sort of writing style only flourishes if there's a reason for the reader to care about the situation it's taking place in
13:10:02 <+occultin> Luca some kind of final extra payoff to give it a bit more of a memorable stamp
13:10:04 yeah
13:10:24 <%Naevil> I'm not sure how this works as a stand-alone piece, I was sorta expecting this to be a companion to a skip or somethin
13:10:58 but I think if you can make it work properly, i.e. giving more character/focusing on a specific genre, it could work
13:11:11 — +occultin nods
13:11:42 <+occultin> Luca i worried that both the characters felt too nebulous because they don't really have characters so much as actions within the story
13:12:04 if i gave them more individual personality and stuff would that be enough or would it still need a bit more?
13:12:33 <%Naevil> well like, not as much nebulous as they were just flat
13:13:00 <+occultin> Luca i see
13:13:01 <%Naevil> you can only portray so much character in a few lines of dialogue, and the only things I got were that they were maybe lovebirds?
13:13:38 I think giving them more character might work, if you want to make this story more character driven
13:14:03 but like I said, there's not too much reason for the reader to care about /them/, as we know nothing about them
13:14:24 <+occultin> Luca hm, yeah
13:15:25 so the main issue is that there's no real reason for the reader to stay invested because it's "oops all imagery" without enough substance
13:15:42 <%Naevil> that's about it, yeah
13:16:08 <+occultin> Luca alrighty, that's something i can fix i think
13:16:22 is there anything else that stuck out as an issue?
13:16:37 <%Naevil> like, adding on to the wiseman quotes thing, I often see it as a way to make a piece more "powerful" without really… doing much?
13:17:05 for instance
13:17:16 >
There are no secrets, no lies, nothing that cannot be reconciled.
13:17:34 the brain's response to seeing this is something like "oh shit, that's really cool"
13:17:49 but thinking about it, it just… doesn't make a whole lot of sense?
13:18:05 — +occultin nods
13:18:07 <%Naevil> I'm cherry picking this example, but that's the general gist
13:18:19 <+occultin> Luca yeah i see what you mean
13:18:32 there's a lot of lines where the literal meaning has little thought behind it, tbh
13:19:01 <%Naevil> it's why I'm not the biggest fan of these sorts of writing styles, they rely on using cool sounding structures without actually being… cool, in a sense
13:20:21 writing compelling dialogue or just having normal sentences that capitalize on the context work a thousand times better, imho
13:20:54 <+occultin> Luca i had initially planned to write more of this as dialogue so as to avoid that and give a bit more characterisation, so i might try and re-write it to fit closer to that version
13:21:01 the prose is very purple here lol (edited)
13:21:51 <%Naevil> yeah

SCP-XXXX-2 is a 21-year-old human female by the name of "Erin Burns". SCP-XXXX-2 is of an average build and stands at 1.7 metres tall. SCP-XXXX-2 is generally aggressive towards Foundation staff, however, psychological testing has revealed no major mental health issues that may motivate this.
Discovery: SCP-XXXX was encountered by a Foundation agent researching an unrelated anomaly in Belfast, Ireland on the 05/06/22. Initially believing SCP-XXXX to be an ordinary young woman, the agent engaged in cordial conversation with it, before returning to his duties. He later encountered both SCP-XXXX-1 and SCP-XXXX-2 separately, who referenced the previous conversation. In conversation with his superiors, it was agreed anomalous elements may be involved, and an investigation was commissioned. SCP-XXXX-1 and SCP-XXXX-2 were both contained later that month.
Addendum XXXX-001: The following is a log of an interview of SCP-XXXX-1 and SCP-XXXX-2 on the 01/7/22.
Interviewed: SCP-XXXX-1 and SCP-XXXX-2
Interviewer: Dr. Lindsay Jones
Foreword:
<Begin Log>
Interviewer: So, SCP-XXXX-1 and SCP-XXXX-2, this interview exists for us to get a handle on you two as people, build a repertoire, and help us come to a degree of understanding about your… practices.
SCP-XXXX-1 and SCP-XXXX-2 exchange a sustained glance. Neither speaks.

Closing Statement: [Small summary and passage on what transpired afterward]
Summary: This thread proposes that the current method of non-disciplinary record-keeping be replaced with a version private to staff to prevent public branding of users over minor mistakes.
The Problem: Non-discs are often used as record-keeping for staff to ensure 1) our actions are transparent, and 2) to keep an eye on users who may eventually need disc intervention. This is very useful to staff and helps us in keeping the site working smoothly, whilst speeding up disc proceedings where they become necessary. However, a number of users have expressed (and this was to a degree already known), that non-discs, particularly over very minor things such as post-signing, can often feel like being branded for the rest of their time on site. Additionally, the vast majority of non-discs never even receive a second post, never mind a disc thread, and as such this kind of public record-keeping often does not serve a long term purpose.
The Solution: There are a number of options I see that will allow us to maintain the utility of a non-disc thread without branding users before they've had a chance to integrate into the site. I've listed a number of options I believe are viable below:
Option 1: Replace non-discs with record-keeping on a private wiki only accessible to staff members. Whilst there is a degree of transparency lost here, it ensures that users are no longer branded for minor infractions. If a user receives a disc thread, the contents of the non-disc are made public on O5 in the disc thread as well as the infraction that led to the disc thread. Users may request their non-discs be released to them in full at any time and staff must comply.
Option 1a: Instead of creating a new private wiki, staff create a new page category on O5 that can only be accessed by site members that would be used to store non-disc records. This would prevent the creation of a new wiki or process, but may be unwieldy, as each non-disc record would require an entire new page of its own.
Option 2: Staff use a tracker such as that proposed in the big project tab-keeping proposal to track non-discs and store the records. As with Option 1, this information would be released upon the creation of a disc thread and/or request.
Option 3: Keep things as they are - the impact of a non-disc is ultimately small and does not outwigh its benefits or the difficulty of finding a new method.
In order to facilitate this change, if Option 1 or 2 pass, the following section of text from the Site Charter would be modified:
1. Any member of Staff may make a thread in the Minor User Issues or Major User Issues subforums to document possible disciplinary violations. These threads are for discussion of the user's behavior and documentation of pervasive behavioral trends on the user's part.
If Option 1 passes, the text above will be modified to the following:
1. Any member of Staff may make a thread in the Minor User Issues forum on the Non-Disciplinary Record-Keeping Wiki, or a thread in the Major User Issues subforum on 05Command, to document possible disciplinary violations. These threads are for discussion and recording of the user's behaviour and documentation of pervasive behavioral trends on the user's part.
2. A thread posted on the Non-Disciplinary Record-Keeping Wiki must remain private except if 1) the user it pertains to requests to see it, in which case it must be released to them in full, or 2) the user it pertains to receives a public disciplinary record in the Major User Issues subforum, in which case it must be published alongside the infractions which lead to the disciplinary thread.
If Option 2 passes, the text will be modified to the following:
1. Any member of Staff may make an issue in the Non-Disciplinary Record System, or a thread in the Major User Issues subforum on 05Command, to document possible disciplinary violations. These threads are for discussion and recording of the user's behaviour and documentation of pervasive behavioral trends on the user's part.
2. An issue posted on the Non-Disciplinary Record System must remain private except if 1) the user it pertains to requests to see it, in which case it must be released to them in full, or 2) the user it pertains to receives a public disciplinary record in the Major User Issues subforum, in which case it must be published alongside the infractions which lead to the disciplinary thread.
If Option 3 passes, the Site Charter will remain unchanged.
This discussion will run for one week at which point a vote will be held if there is no consensus on this policy. The discussion is open to staff of all levels, including JS.
Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class:
Special Containment Procedures:
Description: SCP-XXXX is an anomalous process by which the human brain becomes a separate entity from the person it inhabits and enters into a parasitic relationship with the host body.
The exact cause for SCP-XXXX is not known, however, it is most common in individuals who fulfil one or more of the following criteria:
- Are physically strong
- Are between the ages of 25-60
- Hold a successful or influential job
- Live in major cities
- Have connections, personal relationships, or friendships with individuals who hold governmental or political positions
- Experience tinnitus, especially recently developed cases
SCP-XXXX begins with the brain severing its attachments to the rest of the body, leaving the subject brain dead.3 After this, the brain (hereafter referred to as SCP-XXXX-1) undergoes a metamorphosis, gaining significant amounts of mass4, external tendrils, and the ability to sense, interpret, and transmit encrypted radio frequencies.
SCP-XXXX-1 uses its tendrils to reconnect itself to the host body and gain control over motor function and major bodily processes. From here, it attempts to integrate itself into the life of the host body, usually successfully. The exact goal of SCP-XXXX-1 is not known, however, behaviour patterns indicate attempts to integrate into existing power structures, and to accelerate human exploration of space.
Addendum-XXXX-001: The following is a series of transmissions intercepted from SCP-XXXX-1 instances.
