Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: Due to the unknown source of SCP-XXXX instances, and their unpredictable patterns of manifestation, containment of SCP-XXXX involves various automatic web-crawlers utilizing neural networks, fed data by recordings of previous manifestations, both visual and auditory, programmed to censor instances of the anomaly, redirect them to Foundation staff, and block them from access by non-Foundation IP addresses until the anomaly ceases. Any media it appears on is to only be seen by Foundation personnel for the purpose of interviewing and testing. There is an approximately 68% rate of successful containment before public exposure occurs. Any civilians who have come into contact with SCP-XXXX are to be administered remote audiovisual amnestics. Any information about SCP-XXXX is to be deleted from any website it appears on, using Foundation-developed software used in other web-based anomalies.

Interviews with SCP-XXXX-A are to be recorded using desktop capturing software and later transcribed. Due to SCP-XXXX-A's oftentimes cryptic manner of speaking, it is recommended that interviewers maintain a patient and specific manner of asking questions; the anomaly seems to dislike harshness and will cease to manifest if it deems the interviewer as unpleasant.

Description: SCP-XXXX refers to an anomaly whereby various pieces of media on the internet are altered as to include the entity SCP-XXXX-A. SCP-XXXX-A, in most manifestations, appears as a humanoid figure wearing a ski mask, with the rest of its body seemingly covered in, or perhaps made out of, a viscous black fluid, visually similar to tar. SCP-XXXX-A is able to manifest in a multitude of online mediums, including videos, GIF files, images, computer games, and even live streams. Notably, SCP-XXXX has not occurred in non-visual mediums, such as pure audio files or text documents.

In the manifestations, SCP-XXXX-A is generally seen casually manipulating and exploring the environment it manifests in, never of a destructive or harmful nature. In live media the various individuals interact with SCP-XXXX-A (usually with fear or curiosity) but these happenings do not occur in real life, as though the live recording is capturing some other version of reality at the point of SCP-XXXX-A manifestation. SCP-XXXX-A can speak, and usually communicates in a quiet, gentle voice of varying pitches, oftentimes difficult to understand. It has been found that SCP-XXXX-A is aware of any person watching it, and can respond to the various words and actions of the observers. The means for this are unknown, though SCP-XXXX-A seems to be willing to engage with Foundation staff, albeit using a cryptic manner of speaking using sentence fragments and various unrelated asides.

Addendum: The following is a log of Interview XXXX-65, included here because it is theorized to contain potential information about the origin and nature of SCP-XXXX.
