Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Keter
Special Containment Procedures:
An undetermined number of SCP-XXXX are still uncontained. Below are listed the containment procedures for the Appalachia Site and for SCP-XXXX-1 and SCP-XXXX-1-C respectively.
A perimeter is to be maintained by MTF-(I don't know yet) no less than 75 meters from the edge of the Appalachia Site.
Description:
(For information on the original SCP-XXXX, now classified as SCP-XXXX-1, see addendum 1.)
SCP-XXXX refers to a species of thoughtform. Instances of SCP-XXXX haven't been observed closely enough to give a details physical description of their "inactive" state, but are assumed to resemble a small insect. Instances betray unusually high thermal energy, allowing them to be detected from a safe distance.
However, when a suitable host enters with 35 meters of an instance, and an unobstructed line of sight between them, the anomaly will enter its "active" stage. There is no uniform set of descriptors, nor ability between anomalies in their "active" stage. Anomalies in their "active" stage will take on the traits of an object, person, or entity responsible for trauma in the current host's life. If the host and anomaly are not suited for bonding, the anomaly will not bond due simply to the potential host being within range and within sight. However, when an unsuitable host comes within 10 meters, the anomaly will bond and use the form gained by their "active" stage to attack the host, killing them.
In contrast, suitable hosts (as well as their anomaly) become virtually immortal. The current assumption is that this is the anomaly keeping their host alive to maintain its "active" form, perhaps by transferring some of its capabilities as a thoughtform to the host, like a symbiote, rather than a parasite. It is unknown, however, if this distinction is made consciously by the anomaly, or if these behaviors are unconscious defense mechanisms.
Researcher is currently working to develop a better understanding of SCP-XXXX through information gained by MTF .
