Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is contained in the town of ███████, WA. A 3-meter concrete fence lined with lead is constructed around the object. All trees and hills in the area surrounding the enclosure are leveled, and residents have been informed that the █████ ██████ building is unsafe and has been condemned, scheduled for demolition. Personnel assigned to SCP-XXXX are not permitted to take up residence within the town limits, and should report to their supervisor any interest in moving to ███████, as this could be a sign of SCP-XXXX influence.

Following disappearance event on March 7, 2001, the following additional Containment Procedures are to be enacted: All personnel assigned to SCP-XXXX are to be outfitted in standard radioactive hazard suits, and given a handheld Geiger counter to identify "final stage" affected persons. “Final stage” individuals are to be allowed to enter SCP-XXXX’s event horizon through the west-facing gate.

Following disappearance event on May 2, 2018, the following additional Containment Procedures are to be enacted: Personnel assigned to SCP-XXXX are to evacuate the area surrounding the object's containment area to a safe distance of 50 meters during disappearance events. Neither personnel nor civilians are permitted to view disappearance events.

Persons who either enter or manifest within the borders of this containment area, or who view disappearance events, are considered lost.

Description: SCP-XXXX is an abandoned meat packing facility which closed in December 1949, located in the town of ███████, WA. The town’s structure is such that SCP-XXXX is located roughly in the center of the town’s south side, and its effects appear to spread more slowly when persons are prevented from direct exposure to SCP-XXXX. Foundation efforts have ensured that the south side is widely uninhabited and unused, except for a number of chain stores and a strip mall, which act as a buffer for SCP-XXXX.

SCP-XXXX’s “insides” do not possess mass or volume; in layman’s terms, it is a singularity. Although no light escapes from within SCP-XXXX, it does not possess the intense gravitational pull or radiation one would expect from such an object, ie. a black hole. Persons who approach SCP-XXXX are never observed to enter the anomaly, instead appearing to slow until they arrive at an unlit entrance, and finally becoming heavily redshifted before fading entirely from view. This process can take as few as 6 hours and as long as 3 weeks. It is unknown how many people have been lost to SCP-XXXX, but current estimates believe [DATA EXPUNGED].

It is estimated that nearly ██% of the town’s inhabitants have been directly exposed to SCP-XXXX.1 Persons exposed to SCP-XXXX are considered SCP-XXXX-1 instances. Persons exposed to the object prior to April 1950 (believed to be the inception SCP-XXXX) experienced no negative effects in the years after: only those who later returned to the object were ever affected. SCP-XXXX-1 instances exhibit greatly reduced interest in “local” businesses, instead opting to visit brand locations such as ████████, ██████, or the recently constructed ███ ███████ Mall, to make purchases. Because of the volume of affected individuals, only 23 “local” grocery stores, butchers, and other assorted businesses now exist in ███████. Whether the rapid growth of chain businesses in ███████ is anomalous is debated.

On average, it takes 20-30 years within town limits for an SCP-XXXX-1 instance to succumb to the object's ultimate effects. Outside town limits, instances succumb to violent disappearance events mere hours after exposure. Persons in this “final stage” feel drawn to the object and will often exhibit anomalous properties themselves if unable to reach SCP-XXXX: both internal and external body temperatures have been observed to rise, as well as anomalous cell death via asphyxiation or even radiation poisoning of various appendages and organs. SCP-XXXX-1 instances become increasingly distressed, complaining of feeling “pulled apart,” or of having a tremendous weight on their stomach. If, after 4 hours, the affected is unable to reach SCP-XXXX, [DATA EXPUNGED].

Addendum-1: Because of the violence of disappearance events which take place outside of SCP-XXXX and the inability to cure SCP-XXXX-affected individuals with amnestics, there are no plans to evacuate the population of ███████.
