Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be kept in a highly secured safe within site-17. The inside of the safe is viewable through a security camera built-in to the door. Audio recorders have also been placed inside the safe and must be reviewed twice a day. Once in the morning and once at night. The safe's video feed is to also be monitored on a 24 hour basis with shift changes every six hours. No individual is allowed to open the safe unless authorized and given the proper codes by the head researcher, Dr. [REDACTED].

Description: SCP-XXXX is a 8.5 x 11 inch piece of notebook paper. On the front side of the paper, there is a crude drawing of a humanoid figure casting a shadow on the ground behind it. It should be noted that the shadow is not an exact copy of the of the figure casting it but has slight differences throughout its form.

When an individual touches SCP-XXXX, the individual's shadow will begin to fade over the course of exactly eight minutes and will completely disappear when that time has elapsed. When testing with D-Class personnel, the subjects became very anxious after they had touched SCP-XXXX and noticed the effects of the object. During the tests, multiple variables were introduced to see if the time of fading would change but all results were the same regardless. After a subject's shadow has disappeared, it will not return. Multiple tests have been conducted using light exposure to see if the shadow can be returned or recreated but all attempts have failed.

Subjects who have been exposed to SCP-XXXX have complained to staff about hearing a voice at night and the subjects insist that the voice they're hearing is their own. There have been no recorded cases of this phenomena occurring during the day. The application of amnestics to subjects who have come into contact with the object has not provided the desired result. The subjects still complain about the voice even after forgetting the event that led to its inception.

SCP-XXXX was discovered in [REDACTED], Minnesota after the locals noticed strange behavior from the family in possession of SCP-XXXX. They noticed the family's lack of shadows and how they were talking about voices they heard at night. The authorities contacted the foundation after the father of the family began to make a scene by running through the streets screaming about the "voice in the night" he heard. The foundation discovered SCP-XXXX in the children's bedroom and managed to relocate it to site-17 after the initial task force accidentally exposed themselves to the objects anomalous effects.
