Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class:Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: All captive instances of SCP-XXXX are to be contained in Site-104's Aquatic Observation Tank-A4. SCP-XXXX are to be fed weekly with live mammals or non-aquatic birds totaling at least 45kg, but no more than 60kg. A single large animal is preferred. Any cleaning or maintenance requiring personnel to enter the tank is be be completed within 24 hours of feeding. Upon capture of additional instances of SCP-XXXX feeding and containment procedures may be reevaluated as deemed necessary by assigned researcher Dr. ███. Instances of SCP-XXXX may be transferred to other appropriate tanks for testing under specific conditions, under protocols for the in facility transport of non-escape prone anomalous aquatic animals.

Description: SCP-XXXX consists of 5 captive specimens of an as yet unnamed species in the genus Lophius., as well as an estimated population of █████ instances still undiscovered in the wild. In addition to it's anomalous properties, this species possesses a number of morphological traits that differentiate it from other extant members of the genus. The distinctive modified ray fin or "lure" seen in other species has been replaced by a highly sensitive pit organ. Instances of SCP-XXXX posses jaws designed for tearing chunks of flesh and bone from the corpse of large prey, although they are also capable of swallowing prey up to nearly their own size whole as seen in other members of genus Lophius. Instances of SCP-XXXX are hermaphroditic, and have never been observed engaging in reproductive behaviors.

The anomalous properties of SCP-XXXX only become apparent during hunting behaviors. When hunting SCP-XXXX is capable of sensing body heat from a warm blooded animal out to a range of approximately 4 meters in any direction. Animals entering this radius are compelled to expel all air from the lungs, before losing control of motor function and sinking to the bottom where they are quickly consumed by SCP-XXXX. This effect appears to be a targeted attack by an individual instance of SCP-XXXX, as a single instance of SCP-XXXX has never been observed to effect multiple animals at once. Class D test subjects exposed to SCP-XXXX report feelings of paralyzing fear rendering them unable to move, even when they were not aware of the presence of SCP-XXXX
