Item #: SCP-4032
Object Class: Keter
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-4032 is a highly contagious waterborne virus that causes victims' flesh to slowly disintegrate, leaving holes in aforementioned flesh. It has also been known to be infectious in areas where the air has high concentrations of water vapour. This has caused SCP-4032 to be almost uncontainable, and one effective method of containment is complete isolation of the area in question. The area that is isolated should be surrounded by hydrophobic fences which are kept at a constant temperature of fifteen degrees Celcius below the average temperature of the area in question, in order to ensure low concentrations of water vapour and minimise chances of infection through air.
If a sample in the form of genetic material is to be acquired, the following precautions must be taken. Firstly, full-body hazmat suits and personal oxygen supplies must be utilised. There should be no contact with the air or water bodies. This is to prevent infection in the collectors of the sample. Next, samples should be contained in seven by seven inch electromagnetic fields that should be switched on at all times. Finally, any victims infected with SCP-4032 should be kept in quarantine for a temporary time until the effects of the disease wear off, and the lost flesh heals back. This should take two years at the very least, depending on the period of exposure. Once psychologists have deemed the victim to be reasonably sane and the victim is shown to be physically fit for duty, the victim will have his rank reinstated and normal duties restored.
Description:SCP-4032 is, as previously mentioned, a virus which has infection vectors of water and, in rare cases, air. It is almost impossible to contain unless electromagnetic fields are used, but limited isolation can be used in the form of large scale areas isolated by hydrophobic surfaces. There are only three known areas on earth which are isolated due to SCP-4032:███████Russia, ████, Malaysia, and [DATA EXPUNGED]. The last area's authenticity is in question as specialists are not yet able to access the area and confirm the presence of SCP-4032. Only fifteen specimens have been successfully captured for study and testing as of now. The effects may not be lethal, as long as the disintegrated flesh does not include vital organs such as the heart or the brain. The calculated mortality rate is 56%. There is currently a moratorium on further studies due to [DATA EXPUNGED], as well as concerns raised by staff over the safety of studying SCP-4032.
