Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: The laptop which SCP-XXXX is installed on is to be stored in a standard Secure Technological Item Storage Locker. Access to and usage of SCP-XXXX is for testing purposes only and requires the permission and supervision of a head researcher. The laptop's networking hardware has been physically removed and under no circumstances is new networking hardware to be installed (either internally or externally via USB) and the laptop connected to the internet or the Foundation's internal network.
Any database file meeting one of the following criteria should NOT be loaded into SCP-XXXX UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES:
- The data in the database represents anything pertaining to Foundation personnel, procedures, SCPs or documentation.
- The real-world data that the database represents changes frequently or unpredictably (for example, stock prices or small-scale weather patterns) (this is to prevent the occurrence of a XXXX-Crash-Event)
Description: SCP-XXXX is a particular installation of the database management software, SQLite Studio currently installed on a 2005 Lenovo ThinkPad laptop. SCP-XXXX has two key anomalous properties:
- When a database is loaded into SCP-XXXX, the data in the database will always exactly match the real-world statistics it is designed to model, regardless of changes made (or not made) to the database file. For example, a database made to track the populations of various cities will always show the correct population for each city at the time it was loaded.
- When values in a database are changed in SCP-XXXX, reality will be altered to match the changes made. For example, after using SCP-XXXX to change the designation a D-Class personnel, the number printed on their uniform immediately changed to the new number as did the number in all records of the D-Class at the Foundation. The memories of the affected D-Class or the researchers involved however, was not altered.
If a value in a database loaded into SCP-XXXX is set to something that is not physically possible in reality (for example, setting the volume of an object to a negative value) or if a value's real-world representation changes at the same time it is changed in SCP-XXXX, SCP-XXXX will crash. SCP-XXXX crashing is designated as a XXXX-Crash-Event. In a XXXX-Crash-Event, a random value in whichever database was loaded into SCP-XXXX at the time will be corrupted and changed to a completely random value (also affecting the real-world value). This was discovered when a researcher, operating on a database representing SCP personnel medical information attempted to change the height of a D-class personnel to a negative value. SCP-XXXX crashed and the resulting corruption set Agent ████████'s Cognitohazard Sensitivity Index (normally a value from 0 to 20) to 348. Agent ████████ immediately suffered an extreme panic attack and had to be subdued by a security team. Fortunately, Agent ████████'s Cognitohazard Sensitivity Index was able to be reset to its original value through use of SCP-XXXX. The incident resulted in the implementation of SCP-XXXX's current containment procedures.
Addendum: Recovery The laptop containing SCP-XXXX was acquired by a Foundation recovery team during a raid on the student dormitories of █████████████ University which agents identified as the source of a series of dark web messages advertising the services of "the greatest hacker in the world."
