Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is contained within a 12mx12mx10m chamber composed of an osmium-titanium-tungsten alloy. The chamber is air tight and separated from the observation room by a single airlock, the only means of entering and exiting the containment chamber. No objects composed of, or containing gold are to be within a 12 mile radius of the chamber, this includes electronic devices that would have otherwise been required for monitoring.
Research and experimentation with SCP-XXXX is strictly limited to personnel of Level 3 and above and permission must be granted from the Director of Site 212. Due to the aggressive behaviour exhibited by SCP-XXXX, any personnel interacting with the object are required to wear the protective equipment supplied.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a mass of 100% elemental gold measuring approximately 9mx5mx7m at the time of writing, it's total weight is estimated to be 6,695 tons. SCP-XXXX is mobile and is capable of moving at a speed of up to 0.02 miles per day, or 0.0008333 mph. When left alone in it's containment chamber the object 'paces' around the walls of it's enclosure in a circular pattern. Whenever a biological organism is present, SCP-XXXX will move towards the organism at it's top speed.
SCP-XXXX also possesses the ability to control and absorb any amount of gold within a 12 mile radius of itself. It typically extracts gold wherever it can be found and draws it into its central mass, during its containment it had absorbed a total of ███Kg before Site staff realised what was occurring. This process has rendered many of the electronic devices within Site 212 inoperable
While lacking any significant feats of speed, SCP-XXXX is able to close the distance between itself and its target remarkably quickly, it does so by shedding parts of it's own mass to create a swarm of razor sharp gold shavings. It is not known how SCP-XXXX is capable of motion, nor is it understood how the gold shavings are able to remain airborne.
Samples taken from SCP-XXXX become inert upon removal from the containment chamber for a period of up to 3 hours, after which the sample will 'reactivate' and attempt to join with SCP-XXXX's central mass. Due to the area of effect applied by the central mass, any analysis of the samples taken from SCP-XXXX must take place off site as the gold inside the required equipment would be forcefully extracted by the central mass. Examination of these samples reveals that, although it is elemental gold, the atomic structure of SCP-XXXX is distinctly different to it's non-anomalous counterpart. All non anomalous gold absorbed by the the central mass adopts this bizarre structure.
The atomic structure of SCP-XXXX resembles a form of neural lattice, indicating that it may possess some degree of intelligence, animalistic as it may be.
